Isolation of phospholipase A2 from the venom of the green toadBufo viridis

Phospholipase A₂ has been isolated fromthe venom of he Central Asian green toad Bufo viridis in the electroophoretically homogeneous state for the first time by biospecific absorption chromatography. The affinity sorbent used was Affi-Gel 10 with covalently bound phosphatidylserine (PDS). The chemical inertness of the bound PDS to the hydrolytic action of phospholipase A2 and its high tendency to form biospecific complexes have been shown. Some biochemical characteristics of the enzyme isolated have been studied: influence of the pH and of the Ca²⁺ concentration and dependence of activity on substrate concentration.A. S. An investigation of the membranotropic properties of the plant toxin thionin isolated fromPyrularia pubera

Study of radical methyl methacrylate-methacrylic acid copolymerization in isopropyl alcohol by dynamic laser scattering and C-NMR spectroscopy

The copolymerization of methyl methacrylate and methacrylic acid in isopropyl alcohol is studied by kinetic, dynamic laser scattering and ¹³C-NMR methods. Correlations are established between the dependence of the copolymerization rate, the apparent average molecular weight, the diffusion coefficients and the configurational triad composition on the monomer feed. These correlations and the fact that both copolymerization constants are smaller than unity (r_MMA = 0.63 ± 0.03; r_MA = 0.25 ± 0.05) are in good agreement with the assumption that a comonomer complex takes part in the propagation reaction. A new Markov chain method for the estimation of the configurational triad mole fraction which accounts for the complex participation in a macromolecule formation is developed. Qualitative criteria for evidence the participation of the comonomer complex in copolymerization are proposed using experimental and terminal model calculated mole fractions of the compositional triads and diads.     

End unit effect on the Tg of differentiated series of perfluoro-poly (oxymethylene-co-oxyethylene) oligomers

Twelve series of linear oligomers of four different degrees of polymerization (x_n = 8.77−41.55), having a common perfluorinated random copolymeric chain as molecular body and two equal foreign end units of one of the types listed in Table 1, have been synthesized by derivatization of base samples of one of them having a diolic---CH₂OH functionality. The glass transition temperature T_g of all the series was measured and thus examined as a function of x_n. A clear end unit effect is observed, dominantly determined in every series by chemical nature and structure of the end units, quantitatively expressed at any x_n by different positive or negative T_g deviations from the common asymptotic T_g∞ value. The results are also discussed in terms of copolymer end effect and of relation between T_g and end copolymeric composition.     

Energy levels of small titanium oxide clusters obtained from SCF calculations

The energy levels of small titanium oxide clusters [(TiO₂)₂, and (TiO₂H)₃, and (TiO₂H)₂] have been calculated using ab initio SCF methods. Both crystal and relaxed geometries have been considered. Systematic changes in the valencelevel structure resulting from geometry relaxation are found, which may be related to band-gap changes experimentally observed for small titanium oxide particles. In addition, a Ti? OH local surface state is found to be well described within a limited cluster model. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Selective photoconductivity induced in PbTe(Ga) by a local phonon mode

Selective photoconductivity at frequency ω=155 cm⁻ was discovered in PbTe(Ga) narrow-gap semiconductors at liquid-nitrogen temperatures. The corresponding energy is much lower than all characteristic energies of the electronic spectrum of the semiconductor. The effect is attributed to optical excitation of a local vibrational mode of an impurity center leading to delocalization of the electrons. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Teor. Dynamic study of gated saturable absorbers

The capability of gated saturable absorbers for single-pulse selection is studied theoretically using the classical space-time-dependent rate-equation model. The dynamics of operation is followed experimentally by the well-known pump—probe technique. Comparing the theoretical and experimental results, it is found that gated saturable absorbers can efficiently be used for pulse forming and pulse selection of pulses longer than picosecond.
