Wavelength independence of Eu quantum yields

A quantitative comparison between the excitation and absorption spectra of Eu³⁺ in aqueous solution is given which leads to the conclusion that fluorescence quantum yields are independent of the excitation wavelength. Use is made therefore of the series of homologous lines ⁵D₃, ⁵D₂, ⁵D₁, ⁵D₀ → ⁷F₁.     

Zur Kenntnis von Natrium-hexafluoromanganat(III)

Sodium hexafluoromanganate(III) has been synthesized by heating equimolecular quantities of Na₂MnF₅ and NaF in argon atmosphere. The compound is monoclinic witha=5.56 (1) Å,b=5.84 (1) Å,c=8.10 (2) Å, =90.7 (2) andZ=2. It is a high spin complex with _eff and the deformation of the octahedra is evident from its IR-spectra. Two enantiotropic transitions (at 562 and 653°C) and the melting point at 800°C have been observed.

The synthesis and chemical reactions of certain pyrazolo[1,5-a]-1,3,5-triazines

3-Aminopyrazole was utilized as a starting material for the preparation of certain pyrazolo-[1,5-a]-1,3,5-triazines. 4-Chloro-2-methylthiopyrazolo[1,5-a]-1,3,5-triazine was prepared and used for studies of nucleophilic displacement reactions, and it has been found that both the chloro and methylthio groups may be displaced by nucleophiles. By modifications of these procedures we have prepared the adenine, hypoxanthine, and xanthine analogs of the pyrazolo-[1,5-a]-1,3,5-triazine ring system. Electrophilic substitution occurs in the 8-position of this ring system. The methyl group was introduced into the 4-position by a novel ring opening and ring closing of the 1,3,5-triazine ring.     

配位聚合物{[MnL][FeⅡFeⅢ(ox)3·1.5H2O]}∞的合成及其磁学性质

合成和表征了一种新的Schiff碱配合物MnL(ClO4)*3H2O(1)(其中L为n(水杨醛)∶n(二乙撑三胺)=1∶1缩合而成的Schiff碱).1与FeSO4*7H2O和K3[Fe(ox)3]*3H2O(ox=oxalate)进一步反应,生成了双金属层状配位聚合物{[MnL][FeⅡFeⅢ(ox)3]*1.5H2O}∞(2).IR和Mssbauer谱测定结果表明,2具有二维层状结构,其阴离子层由[FeⅡFeⅢ(ox)3]-单元构成.变温磁化率(5K～100K)测试结果表明,2中的自旋载体之间存在反铁磁交换作用.5K时的磁滞现象表明2在低温时可能存在铁磁有序,这可能是亚铁磁或自旋倾斜造成的.

Der sehr niedrige Wirkungsgrad der Photosynthese zusammen mit der kleinen Energiedichte der Sonnenstrahlung erzwang ab einer kritischen Größe die Aufspaltung in Energiesammler, die Pflanzen, und Verbraucher chemischer Energie, den Tieren. Dank den 10 mal höheren Wirkungsgraden in der Technik, lassen sich Solarmobile bauen, die von der auf sie fallenden Sonnenstrahlung angetrieben werden. Wegen des Multiplikationsgesetzes der Teilwirkungsgrade ergeben sich sowohl für die Speicherung der Sonnenenergie in den fossilen Brennstoffen wie in der Nahrungskette extrem niedrige Wirkungsgrade.

Efficiencies in the world of life and in engineering

One often hears the opinion, that the efficiencies in the world of life are higher than in engineering. To disprove this, many values of efficiency of corresponding processes are compared. The very low efficiency of photosynthesis in living plants together with the low density of solar radiation has led the world of life to split into collectors of energy, the plants, and consumers of chemical energy, the animals. Thanks to the ten times higher efficiencies of solar cells, it is possible, to produce solar mobiles, vehicles that move driven by solar radiation.

Homogeneous hydrogenation of ketones to alcohols with ruthenium complex catalysts

A number of ruthenium triphenylphosphine complexes catalyse the reduction of ketones to their corresponding alcohols in the presence of water. The most convenient catalyst precursors are carbonyl containing complexes which do not promote decarbonylation of the substrate. The hydrogenation of acetone with hydridochlorocarbonyltris(triphenylphosphine)ruthenium is first order with respect to the substrate concentration, the catalyst concentration, the hydrogen pressure and the water concentration. Turnover numbers up to 15,000 have been achieved with this catalyst. Other ketones are also reduced by RuHCl(CO)(PPh₃)₃ and the rate of the reaction is dependent on the nature of the substrate.     

k0-measurements and related nuclear data compilation for (n, γ) reactor neutron activation analysis

Recommended k₀-factors and related nuclear data for use in (n, γ) activation analysis are given for 72 isotopes. In addition the basic nuclear constants and experimental parameters needed in the k₀ standardization method are reviewed. For convenient data reduction, computer programs were developed.     

INTRAMOLECULAR EXCIPLEX FORMATION IN Nα-ACETYL-1-PYRENYLALANYL-1-METHYLTRYPTOPHAN METHYLESTER

Abstract— The synthesis, absorption and emission properties of erythro (e) and threo (t) Na-acetyl-1-pyrenylalanyl-1-methyltryptophan methylester (APTE) are reported. From the dependency of the exciplex emission maximum on the solvent polarity, the exciplex dipole moment of erythro and threo APTE were calculated. The evolution of the ratio of the quantum yield of exciplex emission and the quantum yield of emission from the locally excited state is correlated with solvent polarity and with the tendency of the solvent to interact with the peptide chain through hydrogen bonding. It is shown that solvents, inert towards the peptide function, shift the equilibrium between the two ground state conformations towards C₇, in which an exciplex geometry can be reached. Hydrogen accepting solvents shift the conformational equilibrium towards C₅, which cannot form an exciplex directly within the lifetime of excited pyrene.     

5-vinylisoxazole

Cycloaddition of fulminic acid to 1-butyn-3-ol gave a mixture of 5-α-hydroxyethylisoxazole (I) and 4-α-hydroxyethylisoxazole (II) in the ratio 9:1. By the dehydration of 1, 5-vinylisoxazole (III) was obtained. Compound III has also been prepared by cyclization of 4-penten-2-ynal as well as its diethylacetal with hydroxylamine hydrochloride; in both instances no isomers have been obtained. Compound III spontaneously polymerizes even at room temperature yielding a polymer still containing isoxazole rings.
