Short-Time Decoherence of Solid-State Qubit at Optimal Operation Points

We investigate the short-time decoherence of a solid-state qubit under Ohmic noise at optimal operation points. The decoherence is analyzed by maximum norm of the deviation density operator. It is shown that at the temperature T = 3 mK, the loss of the fidelity due to decoherence is much smaller than the DiVincenzo low decoherence criterion, which means that the mode/may be an optimal candidate of qubit for quantum computation.

Electronic charge distributions and correlations in highT c superconducting compounds

Calculations on negatively charged planar Cu _n O _m clusters are reported. Starting from a self-consistent field calculation within a good Gaussian-type orbital basis set, correlations are included by using the Local Ansatz. A charge analysis reveals that the Cu 3d occupation is 9.5, in close agreement with Local Spin Density calculations. The electrons in the formal ((CuO₂)^2–) _n entities are delocalized between Cu and O sites and strongly correlated. Our findings do not agree with the assumption of localized Cu²⁺ spins which lead to thet-J model. Spin correlations indicate strong short-range antiferromagnetic order even when additional electrons are removed. For them, there is no difference between O and Cu sites.     

Phenomenology of the Λ/Σproduction ratio in pp collisions

We show that the recently measured asymmetry in helicity-angle spectra of the Λ-hyperons, produced in the reaction pp → K ⁺Λp reaction, and the energy dependence of the total pp → K ⁺Λp cross-section can be explained consistently by the same Λp final-state interaction. Assuming that there is no final-state interaction in the Σ⁰ p channel, as suggested by the available data for the reaction pp → K ⁺Σ⁰ p, we can also reproduce the energy dependence of the Λ/Σ⁰ production ratio and, in particular, the rather large ratio observed near the reaction thresholds. The nominal ratio of the Λ and Σ⁰ production amplitudes squared, i.e. when disregarding the final-state interaction, turns out to be about 3, which is in line with hyperon production data from proton and nuclear targets available at high energies.
