Reactions of Hydroxyazolidines with π-Donor Heterocycles. 3. Reaction of 1-Acetyl-5-hydroxypyrazolidines with Oxindoles

The reaction of oxindoles with 5-hydroxypyrazolidines on the surface of potassium fluoride-modified alumina leads to 3-(5-pyrazolidinyl)oxindoles. The structure of these products was studied.     

New Method of Analysis of Intermolecular Contacts in the Crystal Structure: π-Complexes

A new method for analysis of intermolecular contacts in the crystal structure based on characteristics of the Voronoi-Dirichlet polyhedra (VDP) is considered using metal π-complexes as examples. The crystal data of the compounds were used to determine the surface area of the VDP faces corresponding to all intermolecular contacts in one π-complex, the total volume of the pyramids with VDP faces as bases and the nuclei of atoms involved in the intermolecular contacts at the vertices, and the total solid angle at which the “intermolecular” VDP faces are seen from the corresponding nuclei of the molecule. A common linear correlation between the enthalpy of sublimation of π-complexes and saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbons and the molecular VDP characteristics was elucidated. Mass spectrometric study of the pyrolysis of perfluorinated compounds of composition C6F12-C9F20, containing perfluoroisopropyl groups

The primary and final products arising from the pyrolysis of perfluoro-2,4-dimethyl-3-ethylpentane, perfluoro-3-isopropyl-4-methyl-2-pentene, perfluoro-2-methyl-3-isopropyl-2-pentene, perfluoro-2,4-dimethyl-3-heptene, and perfluoro-4-methyl-2-pentene have been studied using low-energy mass spectrometry and chromatography-mass spectrometry. Thermal decomposition of hexafluoropropene oligomers, containing perfluoroisopropyl groups attached to a double bond, occurs via loss of a radical pair to form perfluorodienes, as well as via abstraction of a hexafluoropropene molecule from the iso-C₃F₇ group. A correlation between the principal fragmentation pathway observed under electron impact and the primary process in the main thermolysis pathway was detected only in the case of perfluoro-4-methyl-2-pentene and perfluoro-2,4-dimethyl-3-heptene, which are capable of cleavage of^.CF₃ and^.C₂F₅ radicals, respectively, to give a single possible allyl radical structure.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 5, pp. 1037–1041, May, 1990.     

Form of the dihedral angle dependence of the spin-spin coupling constant JHNNH

Cyclic hydrazides (derivatives of phtalhydrazide,pyrozolidone-3, indazolone, cyclic hydrazide camphoric acid) are studied by the NMR¹H method. The size of the dihedral HNNH angle of several model compounds (pyrozolidone-3, cyclic hydrazide norcamphoric acid) are calculated by the MINDO/3 SSF MO LCAO method. It is shown that in the hydrazides with HNNH dihedral angle 0–70° the magnitude of the HNNH spin-spin interaction constant does not exceed 1 Hz. Analysis of the globins from fast human haemoglobins by isoelectrofocusing on polyacrylamide gel rods

The globins from all fast haemoglobin (Hb) components obtainable by Bio-Rex 70 cation-exchange chromatography were examined by isoelectrofocusing on polyacrylamide gel rods with 8.0 mol/l urea. From this analysis HbA1a1 and HbA1a2 seem to be very heterogeneous components. HbA1b is separable into two components, one of which is varied in both the beta chains. Between HbA1b2 and the well-known HbA1c components two chromatographic peaks are separated, one with a noticeable percentage of glucosylated beta chain and one that probably contains HbF. HbA1c has both beta chains glucosylated, while HbA1x seems to be a beta monoglucosylated Hb form. Finally, the early part of the HbAo peak has a large amount of glucosylation on both alpha and beta chains.     

The use of 18O substitution in the characterization of MReO4 molecules. The IR spectrum of matrix-isolated CsReO4

The molecular structure of gaseous CsReO₄ has been studied by matrix isolation IR spectroscopy. The ¹⁸O substitution experiments indicate a bidentate structure of C_2v symmetry in which the perrhenate anion is slightly distorted from the tetrahedral geometry.     

Radiation-induced crosslinking and grafting of two polyphosphazene elastomers

The radiation-induced crosslinking and grafting of two aryloxy-substituted elastomeric polyphosphazenes have been carried out by both gamma and electron beam irradiation. The classic Charlesby–Pinner [1] plus a simpler approach were used to determine the G(X) values for the crosslinked elastomeric polymers. The apparent G(X) value for the same polymer depended on whether the gamma-ray or the E-beam results were used. The presence of 8.5% repeat units with allylic groups in the side chain increased the G(X) value by an order of magnitude when the irradiation was performed under vacuum with the gamma source. The extent of acrylic acid grafting was also higher for the polymer containing the allylic group. Nearly all the grafted polyphosphazene films were insoluble in THF, a good solvent for the ungrafted samples.

Synchronization of signal sampling with liquid pulsation in systems with peristaltic pumps

Method and electronic circuitry are described for synchronization of analytical signal sampling with pulsation of liquid flow in systems with a peristaltic pump. The technique is illustrated for cathodic stripping voltammetry of manganese.
