Meromorphic Traveling Wave Solutions of the Complex Cubic-Quintic Ginzburg-Landau Equation

We look for singlevalued solutions of the squared modulus M of the traveling wave reduction of the complex cubic-quintic Ginzburg-Landau equation. Using Clunie??s lemma, we first prove that any meromorphic solution M is necessarily elliptic or degenerate elliptic. We then give the two canonical decompositions of the new elliptic solution recently obtained by the subequation method.     

Regioselective Synthesis of Polycyclic and Heptagon-embedded Aromatic Compounds through a Versatile π-Extension of Aryl Halides

A versatile π-extension reaction was developed based on the three-component cross-coupling of aryl halides, 2-haloarylcarboxylic acids, and norbornadiene. The transformation is driven by the direction and subsequent decarboxylation of the carboxyl group, while norbornadiene serves as an ortho-C−H activator and ethylene synthon via a retro-Diels–Alder reaction. Comprehensive DFT calculations were performed to account for the catalytic intermediates.     

Spacer effect on triazole-linked sugar-based surfactants

A series of alkyl triazole glycoside surfactants, ATGs, differing in the length of the alkyl linker between the sugar and the triazole, was synthesized and investigated on their surfactant properties and phase behavior in water. The results indicate no significant impact of the linker on surface and interphase properties, whereas the phase behavior is affected. Higher affinity for the bicontinuous cubic phase potentially favors methylene-linked ATGs over higher homologs for drug-delivery applications. A comparison of glucose and xylose reveals a tendency for high Krafft points for propargyl xyloside based ATGs. This disfavors these surfactants with respect to both glucose analogs and higher homologs.     

Polymer and azo-dye composite: a photo-alignment layer for liquid crystals

In this article, we disclose a method to fabricate polymer-stabilised azo-dye photo alignment layers for liquid crystal. The idea includes the introduction of polymer network in the alignment layer, in optimal concentration, followed by two-step irradiation. The stabilised photo-alignment layer has been explored for different aspects of the display-related parameters, viz. anchoring energy, stability for various display-related environments as a function of concentration of monomer and irradiation, residual DC and voltage holding ratio. The composite photo-alignment layer offers well-suited parameters for the liquid crystal alignment and therefore could find application in a variety of modern photonic and display devices.
