Hydrogenation and Skeleton Rearrangements of α-Pinene on Heterogeneous Catalysts

Hydrogenation and isomerization of -pinene on heterogeneous catalysts were studied, and conditions were found for hydrogenation of pinene to cis-pinane on nickel catalysts and for its dehydrogenation to p-cymene on decationized zeolite Y.     

Co-aggregation of fullerene C60 and thiophene in the non-aromatic solvent cyclohexene

Co-aggregation of fullerene C₆₀ and thiophene has been studied calorimetrically in cyclohexene at 25 °C. The total aggregation heat is found to depend on initial concentration of thiophene and fall between −1.9 and −5.8 kJ mol⁻¹. The corresponding thiophene/fullerene molar ratio (“co-aggregation number”) ranges from 7 to 12. The data are rationalized by formation of heteromolecular nanoaggregates with intermolecular contacts of both fullerene–thiophene and fullerene–fullerene types. A physical model describing interaction between fullerenes and π-donors in solution is substantiated and used to explain heterogeneity of composites containing fullerenes.     

Reaction of nitrosonium trifluoromethanesulfonate with fluoroolefins and some properties of the resulting products

The reaction of nitrosonium trifluoromethanesulfonate with fluoroolefins resulted in -nitrosofluoroalkyltrifluoromethanesulfonates, the corresponding 1,2-oxazetidines, and nitrosofluoro polymers. The nitroso compounds, under the effect of nitrogen tetroxide, were oxidized to -nitrofluoroalkyltrifluoromethanesulfonates. Pyrolysis of the oxazetidines and nitrosofluoro polymers resulted in the synthesis of fluoroazomethines containing the CF₃-SO₂O group.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 8, pp. 1851–1855, August, 1990.     

Universal functions for estimating total vibration-rotation band absorptance—I. Linear molecules and spherical tops

We estimate total band absorptances and their derivatives for nonoverlapping lines of vibration-rotation bands for linear molecules and spherical tops. We use universal functions obtained by replacing the sums of line contributions by integrals over the rotational quantum numbers. An optical path is introduced for the total band. Only general information is utilized on vibrational transitions and line shapes. Power and asymptotic series have been obtained for Doppler and Lorentz line shapes. For a linear molecule and the Lorentz shape, approximate formulae have been derived for the universal functions.
