A novel method for the selective oxidation of various types of sulfides to sulfoxides using chlorine dioxide as the oxidant is proposed.     

Synthesis and Properties of Functional Derivatives of 2,6-Diisobornylphenol and 2-Isobornyl-6-(1-phenylethyl)phenol

New isobornylphenol derivatives have been produced by introducing allyl, hydroxypropyl, and chloropropyl groups into the para-position of 2,6-diisobornylphenol and 2-isobornyl-6-(1-phenylethyl)phenol. The radical scavenging and antioxidant activity and the membrane-protective properties of the newly-obtained compounds in chemical and biological model systems were studied.

Antioxidant properties of terpene-substituted phenols

Antioxidant activity of terpene-substituted phenols and their aminomethyl derivatives as compared to the activity of standard antioxidants, ionol and trolox, has been studied by spectrophotometry (by the ability to react with the stable radical of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) and coulometry (by the ability to react with a bromine radical).     

Favorable effect of CeIII on the stereoselectivity of reduction of verbenone to cis-verbenol

Reduction of verbenone with NaBH₄ in the presence of Ce(NO₃)₃·6H₂O (10—20 mol %) proceeds stereoselectively to give cis-verbenol in 89—94% yield.

Unusual direction in the alkylation of 1-naphthol with camphene in the presence of aluminum phenoxide and isopropoxide

Alkylation of 1-naphthol with camphene in the presence of aluminum phenoxide gives 2-isocamphyl-1-naphthol as a major product, while in the case of aluminum isopropoxide 2-isobornyl-1-naphthol is mainly formed and the content of 4-terpenyl-1-naphthols increases.
