As a model for a binary alloy undergoing an unmixing phase transition, we consider a square lattice where each site can be either taken by an A atom, a B atom, or a vacancy (V), and there exists a repulsive interaction between AB nearest neighbor pairs. Starting from a random initial configuration, unmixing proceeds via random jumps of A atoms or B atoms to nearest neighbor vacant sites. In the absence of any interaction, these jumps occur at jump rates A and B, respectively. For a small concentration of vacancies (c v=0.04) the dynamics of the structure factorS(k,t) and its first two momentsk 1(t),k 2 2 (t) is studied during the early stages of phase separation, for several choices of concentrationc B of B atoms. Forc B=0.18 also the time evolution of the cluster size distribution is studied. Apart from very early times, the mean cluster sizel(t) as well as the moments of the structure function depend on timet and the ratio of the jump rates (= B/ A) only via a scaled timet/(). Qualitatively, the behavior is very similar to the direct exchange model containing no vacancies. Consequences for phase separation of real alloys are briefly discussed.  相似文献

The acoustic structure of loud calls ("wahoos") recorded from free-ranging male baboons (Papio cynocephalus ursinus) in the Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana, was examined for differences between and within contexts, using calls given in response to predators (alarm wahoos), during male contests (contest wahoos), and when a male had become separated from the group (contact wahoos). Calls were recorded from adolescent, subadult, and adult males. In addition, male alarm calls were compared with those recorded from females. Despite their superficial acoustic similarity, the analysis revealed a number of significant differences between alarm, contest, and contact wahoos. Contest wahoos are given at a much higher rate, exhibit lower frequency characteristics, have a longer "hoo" duration, and a relatively louder "hoo" portion than alarm wahoos. Contact wahoos are acoustically similar to contest wahoos, but are given at a much lower rate. Both alarm and contest wahoos also exhibit significant differences among individuals. Some of the acoustic features that vary in relation to age and sex presumably reflect differences in body size, whereas others are possibly related to male stamina and endurance. The finding that calls serving markedly different functions constitute variants of the same general call type suggests that the vocal production in nonhuman primates is evolutionarily constrained.  相似文献

Molecule-like defect complexes have been studied at Cd acceptors in the III–V semiconductors GaAs, GaP, InP, InAs, and InSb by PAC spectroscopy. After hydrogen plasma treatment, the formation of Cd-H complexes was observed in all these compounds. The physics of granular matter is one of the big questions in science. Granular matter serves as a prototype of collective systems far from equilibrium and fundamental questions remain. At the same time, an understanding of granular matter has tremendous practical importance. Among practical problems, granular mixing and its interplay with segregation is arguably at the top of the list in terms of impact. Granular mixing in three-dimensional systems is complicated, as flow induces segregation by particle size or density. Several approaches and points of view for analysis are possible in principle, ranging from continuum to discrete. Flow and segregation in three-dimensional systems is seemingly complicated; however, to a reasonable approximation, all of the dynamics takes place in a thin flowing surface layer. This observation, coupled with key experimental results, leads to a simple, compact and extensible continuum-based dynamical systems framework applicable to time-periodic flow in quasi-two-dimensional tumblers and three-dimensional systems (such as spheres and cubes) rotated about one or more axes of rotation. The case of time-periodic systems, in its simplest version, can be viewed as a mapping of a domain into itself. The placement of periodic points can be investigated using symmetry concepts; the character of the periodic points and associated manifolds provides a skeleton for the flow and a template for segregation processes occurring in the flow.  相似文献

This study proposes and construct a primitive quantum arithmetic logic unit (qALU) based on the quantum Fourier transform (QFT). The qALU is capable of performing arithmetic ADD (addition) and logic NAND gate operations. It designs a scalable quantum circuit and presents the circuits for driving ADD and NAND operations on two-input and four-input quantum channels, respectively. By comparing the required number of quantum gates for serial and parallel architectures in executing arithmetic addition, it evaluates the performance. It also execute the proposed quantum Fourier transform-based qALU design on real quantum processor hardware provided by IBM. The results demonstrate that the proposed circuit can perform arithmetic and logic operations with a high success rate. Furthermore, it discusses in detail the potential implementations of the qALU circuit in the field of computer science, highlighting the possibility of constructing a soft-core processor on a quantum processing unit.  相似文献

At DIII-D, a slot divertor concept, called small-angle-slot (SAS), is under development, aiming to enable detachment at relatively low plasma edge density. We report on simulations using the SOLPS-ITER two-dimensional edge code to examine the performance of conceptual “SAS 2” slot configurations. The focus of the analysis is on E  ×  B drift effects on upstream density at detachment (UDD), with detachment marked by electron temperature Te ≤ 3 eV at the outer strike point (OSP). With toroidal field such that radial E  ×  B drift carries particles from the OSP towards the private flux region (PFR), placing the OSP near the inner slot wall gives ≈20% lower UDD than having the OSP near the outer wall. The inner wall effectively traps the radial E  ×  B drift flux, resulting in low Te and associated radial electric field in the PFR, and thus small losses from the slot to the inner target via poloidal E  ×  B drift flux. With toroidal field reversed such that radial E  ×  B drift is reversed, OSP placement near the inner wall gives ≈10% lower UDD than OSP placement near the outer wall. Although radial E  ×  B flux is from the OSP towards the outer wall, this flux largely escapes the slot, raising the UDD. A change in the slot shaping is suggested with the goal of eliminating such E  ×  B -driven particle losses from the slot.  相似文献

Today, SF6 is used to a great extent as insulating and arc-quenching medium in high-voltage gas-blast circuit breakers. The arcing in SF6 during current interruption forms decomposition products. These can influence the arc-quenching properties of the circuit breaker. Furthermore, they can cause corrosion of the circuit breaker housing. In this comprehensive study we present results obtained for the first time from a direct mass spectrometric investigation of the exhaust gases of a high pressure SF6 arc in a model circuit breaker. Our mass spectrometric system consists of a time-of-flight mass spectrometer (TOFMS) equipped with a molecular beam sampling systems. This device allows us to measure mass spectra of high pressure sources with a time resolution of up to 10,000 spectra per second. We have determined the formation rate of the most abundant decomposition products in a SF6 arc at 1 bar. These products are SF4, CF4, WF6, SOF2, SO2, CS2 S2F2 and HF. The fast detection time inherent to our system permits also the determination of the formation of SF4, which is 0.45–0.50 Vol. %/(kJ/1SF6). In addition, we have studied the influence of water and oxygen impurities which are responsible for the production of highly corrosive HF. Finally, we have considered the influence of the thermal degradation of teflon (P.T.F.E.), which is used as nozzle and insulating material in circuit breakers. On this occasion we have demonstrated that CF4, which exhibits dielectric properties similar to SF6, is the main decomposition product formed from teflon. However, we have found that besides CF4 also excess carbon is formed, which is deposited on insulators of the model circuit breaker.Our time-resolved mass spectra reveal that the CF4 production from teflon is delayed by a few milliseconds with respect to the SF6 dissociation in the arc. This delay can influence the interrupting process of the circuit breaker by changing the plasma composition during the arcing period. Although our experiments have been performed on a model circuit breaker we claim that the results presented in this study can be applied to real circuit breakers, since the arc current density and the energy dissipated per liter SF6 are of the same order of magnitude in both devices.  相似文献
