A study of the fluorescence lifetime of Pr3+ in SBN40

The fluorescence lifetime τ₁ of Pr³⁺ doped in the ferroelectric solid solution SNB40 (Ba_0.4Sr_0.6Nb₂O₆) was measured ar various temperatures. The fluorescence lifetime decreases gradually with increasing temperature. Furthermore, an anomalous increase of τ₁ was observed at a specific temperature. The fluorescence linewidth and the peak wavelength of fluorescence also showed an anomalous change at this temperature. It is likely that this phenomenon is due to the phase transition of the host crystal SBN40.

Magnetic field dip and the lifetime of the spherical tensor element of the density matrix in a He-Ne laser

The magnetic field dips (MFD) of the 0.633 and 1.15 μm lines of a He-Ne laser are investigated. It is found that the widths of the MFD signals are not determined by a single upper or lower laser state. Thus, there is some ambiguity in the interpretation of the MFD measurement for the determination of the lifetime, which is difficult to resolve theoretically or experimentally. The effect of pressure on MFD is also discussed, with emphasis on excitation-transfer collisions between the excited and ground states of neon atoms.     

Comparison of angular distributions in π−N→μ+μ− + … with lowest order QCD

Recent measurements of angular distributions in π^?N→μ⁺μ^? + … are compared with theoretical expectations based on the naive Drell-Yan model including transverse momentum for the constituents and lowest order QCD corrections.     

Resonant Raman scattering at higher M0 exciton edge in layer compound InSe

Resonant Raman spectra of γ-rich InSe have been measured at the absorption peak, E'₁, which lies 1.2 eV above the lowest direct gap. The resonance behaviors observed indicate that the E'₁ peak is due to the formation of damped M₀ excitons.
