We report on the development of new materials for laser-ion acceleration applicable for the advanced mechanism of radiation-pressure-acceleration. These targets are ultra-thin with thicknesses of just a few nm. For several years, diamond-like carbon foils in this thickness range can be produced. An alternative material containing more than one ion-species has the potential to further improve the acceleration mechanism. The fabrication and characterization of self-supporting polymer-based targets will be described in this paper. Furthermore, we show the significant influence on a radiation-pressure induced acceleration process by experimental data.  相似文献

An isocratic, reversed-phase HPLC assay has been developed for the separation of the enantiomers of four lipoxygenase metabolites, without the need for a derivatization step. Separation of the enantiomers was studied on a polysaccharide type chiral stationary phase column. Upon determination of suitable mobile phase composition, the assay was evaluated at various temperatures. In all cases the R enantiomer eluted before the S enantiomer. The best separations were observed at 0 degrees C.  相似文献

A systematic study of the novel charge-transfer [(f)14-(pi)0-(f)14 --> (f)13-(pi)2-(f)13] electronic state found in 2:1 metal-to-ligand adducts of the type [(Cp)2Yb](BL)[Yb(Cp)2] [BL = tetra(2-pyridyl)pyrazine (tppz) (1), 6',6' '-bis(2-pyridyl)-2,2':4',4':2',2'-quaterpyridine (qtp) (2), 1,4-di(terpyridyl)-benzene (dtb) (3), Cp = (C5Me5)] has been conducted with the aim of determining the effects of increased Yb-Yb separation on the magnetic and electronic properties of these materials. The neutral [(f)13-(pi)2-(f)13], cationic [(f)13-(pi)1-(f)13] and dicationic [(f)13-(pi)0-(f)13] states of these complexes were studied by cyclic voltammetry, UV-vis-NIR electronic absorption spectroscopy, NMR, X-ray crystallography, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The spectroscopic and magnetic data for the neutral bimetallic complexes is consistent with an [(f)13(pi)2(f)13] ground-state electronic configuration in which each ytterbocene fragment donates one electron to give a singlet dianionic bridging ligand with two paramagnetic Yb(III) centers. The voltammetric data demonstrate that the electronic interaction in the neutral molecular wires 1-3, as manifested in the separation between successive metal reduction waves, is large compared to analogous transition metal systems. Electronic spectra for the neutral and monocationic bimetallic species are dominated by pi-pi and pi-pi transitions, masking the f-f bands that are expected to best reflect the electronic metal-metal interactions. However, these metal-localized transitions are observed when the electrons are removed from the bridging ligand via chemical oxidation to yield the dicationic species, and they suggest very little electronic interaction between metal centers in the absence of pi electrons on the bridging ligands. Analysis of the magnetic data reveals that the qtp complex displays antiferromagnetic coupling of the type Yb(alpha)(alphabeta)Yb(beta) at approximately 13 K.  相似文献

Laser‐induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is currently being used onboard the Mars Science Laboratory rover Curiosity to predict elemental abundances in dust, rocks, and soils using a partial least squares regression model developed by the ChemCam team. Accuracy of that model is constrained by the number of samples needed in the calibration, which grows exponentially with the dimensionality of the data, a phenomenon known as the curse of dimensionality. LIBS data are very high dimensional, and the number of ground‐truth samples (i.e., standards) recorded with the ChemCam before departing for Mars was small compared with the dimensionality, so strategies to optimize prediction accuracy are needed. In this study, we first use an existing machine learning algorithm, locally linear embedding (LLE), to combat the curse of dimensionality by embedding the data into a low‐dimensional manifold subspace before regressing. LLE constructs its embedding by maintaining local neighborhood distances and discarding large global geodesic distances between samples, in an attempt to preserve the underlying geometric structure of the data. We also introduce a novel supervised version, LLE for regression (LLER), which takes into account the known chemical composition of the training data when embedding. LLER is shown to outperform traditional LLE when predicting most major elements. We show the effectiveness of both algorithms using three different LIBS datasets recorded under Mars‐like conditions. Advances in the generalization of invariant manifolds to finite time, experimental (or observational) flows have stimulated many recent developments in the approximation of invariant manifolds and Lagrangian coherent structures. This paper explores the identification of invariant manifold like structures in experimental settings, where knowledge of a flow field is absent, but phase space trajectories can be experimentally measured. Several existing methods for the approximation of these structures modified for application when only unstructured trajectory data is available. We find the recently proposed method, based on the concept of phase space warping, to outperform other methods as data becomes limited and show it to extend the finite-time Lyapunov exponent method. This finding is based on a comparison of methods for various data quantities and in the presence of both measurement and dynamic noise.  相似文献

From magneto-optical imaging performed on heavy-ion-irradiated YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7-delta) single crystals, it is found that at fields and temperatures where strong single vortex pinning by individual irradiation-induced amorphous columnar defects is to be expected, vortex motion is limited by the nucleation of vortex kinks at the specimen surface. In the material bulk, vortex motion occurs through (easy) kink sliding. Depinning in the bulk determines the screening current only at fields comparable to or larger than the matching field, at which the majority of vortices is not trapped by an ion track.  相似文献
