Aggregation in colloidal suspensions and its influence on the suspension viscosity

Influence of aggregate formation on rheological properties of concentrated suspensions is discussed and reviewed. Methods of Stokesian and Brownian dynamic simulations of aggregation are discussed and the results of simulations for both Brownian and non-Brownian particles are presented.

The first part of the present investigation attempts to clarify some unsolved theoretical problems for the well-known model — electron plus a secondarily quantized plane wave. Approximations are found to bring this model within the framework of exact quantum electrodynamics. Some mathematical and physical features of the problem are studied.     

Effect of ionic polarizability on the equations of state of certain alkali halide crystals

The equations of state are found for four alkali halide crystals: TiF, NaCl, KCl, and KBr. The effect of ionic polarizability on the equations of state is shown to be slight at low pressures and to increase with increasing pressure.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii Fizika, No. 8, pp. 92–97, August, 1969.     

Effect of copper and cobalt impurities on the electronic structure and optical spectra of the intermetallic compound PrNi5

The electronic structure and optical properties of the intermetallic compound PrNi₅ and their evolution during the substitution of copper or cobalt atoms for nickel atoms have been investigated. The band spectra of the studied compounds have been calculated in the local spin density approximation corrected to account for strong electron-electron interactions in the 4f shell of the rare-earth ion (LSDA + U method). The dispersion relations of the optical conductivity in the interband light absorption region have been interpreted using the results of calculations of the electron density of states.
