We report on the first observation of topologically stable spatially localized multivortex solitons generated in optically induced hexagonal photonic lattices. We demonstrate that topological stabilization of such nonlinear localized states can be achieved through self-trapping of truncated two-dimensional Bloch waves and confirm our experimental results by numerical simulations of the beam propagation in weakly deformed lattice potentials in anisotropic photorefractive media. 相似文献

We demonstrate experimentally the formation of polychromatic single- and double-charge optical vortex solitons by employing a lithium niobate crystal as a nonlinear medium with defocusing nonlinearity. We study the wavelength dependence of the vortex core localization and observe self-trapping of polychromatic vortices with a bandwidth spanning over more than 70 nm for single-charge and 180 nm for double-charge vortex solitons. 相似文献

Libyan desert glass (LDG) with silica content >99 mol% was examined to obtain evidence for negative viscosity–pressure dependence in silica. Calorimetric scanning experiments under ambient pressure revealed a shift of ~22 K in glass transition temperature (Tg) from pristine to relaxed LDG, respectively. While the endothermic overshot in the isobaric heat capacity at Tg remains practically unaffected, the shift occurs due to a decrease in the onset of relaxation. Because in silicate glasses, caloric and kinetic glass transition are strongly coupled, this finding indicates that kinetic freezing of LDG originally occurred at lower temperature than it does in glasses of equivalent composition under normal conditions. Considering the most probable origin of LDG – a meteoritic impact – and assuming that at least some compression is preserved in natural LDG samples, this observation is interpreted as evidence for decreasing viscosity with increasing pressure, and is related to decreasing Si–O–Si bond angle in the pressure-regime below 1 GPa. 相似文献

We report on the observation of surface gap solitons found to exist at the interface between uniform and periodic dielectric media with defocusing nonlinearity. We demonstrate strong self-trapping at the edge of a LiNbO3 waveguide array and the formation of staggered surface solitons with propagation constant inside the first photonic band gap. We study the crossover between linear repulsion and nonlinear attraction at the surface, revealing the mechanism of nonlinearity-mediated stabilization of the surface gap modes. 相似文献

We develop a theory of modulational instability of multiparameter solitary waves and analyze the transverse instability of composite (or vector) optical solitons in a saturable nonlinear medium. We demonstrate, theoretically and experimentally, that dipole-mode vector solitons created in biased photorefractive media possess a number of anisotropy-driven properties, such as stability of a selected orientation, wobbling, and incomplete rotation, owing to the anisotropic nonlocal response of the photorefractive non-linearity. This new resin provides a useful tool for acylation, and a novel activated polymeric sulfonate ester to generate sulfonamides. We study experimentally nonlinear localization effects in optically induced gratings created by interfering plane waves in a photorefractive crystal. We demonstrate the generation of spatial bright solitons similar to those observed in arrays of coupled optical waveguides. We address the issue of out-of-plane losses in two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystals (PC) etched through a GaAs monomode waveguide clad with standard GaAlAs alloys. We correlate experimental transmission of PCs with two kinds of loss simulation results. The first kind is 2D and introduces an ad hoc imaginary index in the air holes to account for the losses [see (Benisty et al. Appl. Phys. Lett. 76, 532, 2000)]. The second kind is a novel exact three-dimensional calculation inspired by grating-Fourier analysis that provides quantitatively unprecedented agreement with experimental measurements taking into account hole depth as a limiting parameter. We conclude that, in revision to the conclusions of the above reference, the experimental losses are not the intrinsic ones, being larger by a factor of 5 to 10 due to insufficient hole depth. The transition occurs at a critical etch depth shown to be here around 700 nm. We thus predict, for holes deeper than 700 nm, much improved crystals with very low transmission losses and microresonators with ultra-high quality factors. 相似文献
