Improved test of time dilation in special relativity

An improved test of time dilation in special relativity has been performed using laser spectroscopy on fast ions at the heavy-ion storage-ring TSR in Heidelberg. The Doppler-shifted frequencies of a two-level transition in 7Li+ ions at v=0.064c have been measured in the forward and backward direction to an accuracy of Deltanu/nu=1 x 10(-9) using collinear saturation spectroscopy. The result confirms the relativistic Doppler formula and sets a new limit of 2.2 x 10(-7) for deviations from the time dilation factor gamma(SR)=(1-v2/c2)(-1/2).     

Tunable laser diode study of the ν3 band of SiF4 near 9.7 μm

Doppler-limited tunable-diode laser spectra of the stretching fundamental ν₃ of ²⁸SiF₄ near 1031 cm^?1 were analyzed and the spectroscopic constants determined. The ν₃ vibrational dipole moment derivative was determined for several rovibrational lines.     

Total synthesis of gymnorrhizol, an unprecedented 15-membered macrocyclic polydisulfide from the Chinese mangrove Bruguiera gymnorrhiza

[reaction: see text] The total synthesis of gymnorrhizol, a naturally occurring macrocyclic polydisulfide with a new skeleton and a potent proteintyrosinephosphatase 1B inhibitor, was prepared in three steps, starting from (R)-1-bromo-3-chloroisopropanol and 1,3-dichloropropan-2-ol.     

New experimental results on nucleation of Au on NaCl: Dependence on deposition rate and time

Systematic experiments have shown that saturation density, nucleation rate, and condensation coefficient are considerably smaller than previously reported. The low condensation coefficient and the linear deposition rate dependence of the nucleation rate show that the model usually applied for the theoretical explanation of the nucleation process needs some revision. From measured condensation coefficients we have estimated the diffusion length of adatoms, x_s = (14.4 ± 2.4) nm, and the difference between desorption and diffusion energy, E_a – E_sd = (0.31 ± 0.01) eV. Possible reasons for the deviation of the new results from the earlier ones are discussed.     

Eucleanal: a new napthalene derivative from Euclea divinorum

A new naphthalene derivative, named eucleanal (1), was isolated from Euclea divinorum Hiern., and its structure elucidated by detailed spectroscopic (1H, 13C NMR, COSY, HMQC, HMBC) and HREIMS analysis.
