The time stability and dose response of the free radicals produced in various types of “less-studied” mono- and disaccharides by γ-radiation is studied by EPR (Electron Paramagnetic Resonance) and UV spectrometry. The time evolution of the shape of the EPR spectra of irradiated saccharides is investigated from 5 min to 5 months after irradiation. The intensity of the stable EPR signal is studied as a function of the absorbed γ-dose in the range 0.5–20 kGy. Aqueous solutions of irradiated solid saccharides exhibit a UV absorption maximum in the range 250–290 nm. A linear dependency is found between the magnitude of the UV absorption maximum and the absorbed γ-dose. The time stability of the UV absorption maximum is also studied for every saccharide. The results are compared with those obtained for irradiated sucrose.  相似文献

Deformation and nano-rheology of red blood cells: an AFM investigation   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Interaction forces, deformation and nano-rheology of individual red blood cells in physiologically relevant solution conditions have been determined by colloid probe atomic force microscopy (AFM). On approach of the physically immobilised cell and silica glass spherical probe surfaces, deformation of the red blood cell was observed in the force curves. At low levels of deformation, spring constants were determined in the range 3-6 m Nm(-1), whereas for higher levels of deformation, the forces increase non-linearly and on retraction, significant force curve hysteresis is observed (i.e. lower forces upon retraction). The extent of force curve hysteresis was dependent on both the drive velocity and loading force, typical of a viscoelastic system. The response of the red blood cell has been described by viscoelastic theory, where the short and long time scale elastic moduli and relaxation times are determined, i.e. the cell's nano-rheological properties elucidated. In addition to a time independent elastic modulus of 4.0 x 10(3)Nm(-2) at low levels of deformation, time-dependent elastic moduli ranges are observed (3.5 x 10(4) to 5.5 x 10(4)Nm(-2) at intermediate levels of deformation and 1.5 x 10(5) to 3.0 x 10(5)Nm(-2) at higher levels of deformation). That is, one elastic and more than one viscoelastic response to the red blood cell deformation is evident, which is considered to reflect the cellular structure.  相似文献

A method of resolving the complex conjugate ambiguity in Fourier-domain OCT is described. The complex differential spectral interferogram is obtained by simultaneous acquisition of the first and second harmonics of the ac component of the phase-modulated interferogram. The harmonics represent the imaginary and real parts of the interferogram, respectively. The complex conjugate rejection ratio is found to be at least 45 dB and is limited by background noise.  相似文献

We present a high‐throughput method for fabricating large arrays of surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) active gold dimers. Using a large‐area/low‐cost nanopatterning method in conjunction with a meniscus force deposition technique, we were able to create large arrays of uniformly spaced nanoclusters comprising two 60‐nm gold nanospheres. Raman measurements of a thiophenol monolayer deposited on smaller scale arrays of aligned dimers yielded enhancement factors as high as 109. Polarization‐controlled measurements show spectral peak heights to be 10–100 times smaller when the incident beam is polarized perpendicularly to the dimer axis, confirming that the measured enhancements arise from the ‘hot spots’ between the two nanospheres. Given a power series, the coefficients of the formal inverse may be expressed as polynomials in the coefficients of the original series. Further, these polynomials may be parameterized by certain ordered, labeled forests. There is a known formula for the formal inverse, which indirectly counts these classes of forests, developed in a non-direct manner. Here, we provide a constructive proof for this counting formula that explains why it gives the correct count. Specifically, we develop algorithms for building the forests, enabling us to count them in a direct manner.  相似文献
