Six new copper(II) complexes of 2-hydroxyacetophenone-N(4)-phenyl semicarbazone have been synthesized and physico-chemically characterized. The tridentate character of the semicarbazone is inferred from IR spectra. Based on EPR studies, the spin Hamiltonian and bonding parameters have been calculated. The g   values, calculated for all the complexes in frozen DMF, indicate the presence of the unpaired electron in the dx2-y2dx2-y2 orbital. The metal–ligand bonding parameters evaluated showed strong in-plane σ and in-plane π-bonding. The structure of the compound, CuLphen has been resolved using single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The crystal structure revealed a monoclinic lattice with space group symmetry P21/c. The compound adopts a distorted square pyramidal geometry with a N2O2 core as the base.  相似文献

Visible light irradiation of thin films of a main‐chain liquid crystalline poly(aryl cinnamate) using ketocoumarins as triplet sensitizers leads to photochemical crosslinking and UV‐vis and FTIR spectroscopic changes associated with saturation of the cinnamate double bond, most likely by 2 + 2 photocycloaddition. The triplet sensitizers are themselves photolabile and are lost by photochemical reactions during the sensitization process. A new ketocoumarin sensitizer with decyloxy substituents and a reduced tendency to phase separate from the polymer is reported. A simple calculation of the sensitization stoichiometry shows that a single molecule of this ketocoumarin sensitizes the destruction of approximately 90 cinnamate chromophores in the “as cast” films below Tg and about 300 chromophores in the more‐ordered glassy nematic films and in “as cast” films of poly(vinyl cinnamate). Triplet sensitization of fluid nematic films leads, upon initial irradiation, to UV‐vis hyperchromism that is attributed to disruption of chromophore aggregation and, possibly, to disruption of the nematic mesophase as photoproducts begin to form. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) films were surface modified in a solution of benzophenone and sodium hydride in dry dimethylformamide by ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation. The extent of surface modification was characterized after durations of UV light irradiation from 5–20 min at temperatures from 19–60°C. The modified films were analyzed by electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis, diffuse reflectance ultraviolet-visible light spectroscopy, attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, dynamic contact angle measurement, and low-voltage scanning electron microscopy. PTFE surfaces produced by this modification demonstrated extensive defluorination, oxygen incorporation, surface unsaturation, and reduction in both advancing and receding dynamic water contact angles in a manner that was more extensive at long durations of irradiation and at high temperatures. Morphological damage depended upon treatment conditions, but extensive surface modification could be obtained without substantial morphological damage to PTFE films. Control experiments indicated that the surface modification proceeded by photoexcitation of either diphenyl ketyl radical anion or benzhydrol anion, the products of reaction of benzophenone with sodium hydride. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Single crystals of ferroelectric succinic acid were grown from aqueous solution by low temperature solution growth technique. The cell parameters and space group are found using powder X‐ray diffraction analysis. The presence of the functional groups has been estimated qualitatively by FTIR analysis. The UV‐Visible spectrum shows the cut‐off wavelength at 240 nm. The thermal stability of the crystal was studied by TG/DTA. Grinding behavior of nanoparticles in an attritor mill and the minimum achievable particle size are strongly influenced by the suspension stability. In the present work, suspension stability (i.e. ξ-potential) of nanoparticles was studied by measuring pH as a function of grinding time in the wet milling process. It was found that after a certain time in an attritor mill, there is no further size reduction and the average product particle size increases monotonically. One of the reasons is that the production of submicron particles leads to more particle-particle interactions and consequently pH of the suspension decreases with grinding time. Usually pH value is related to suspension stability and it can be enhanced by addition of NaOH solution. The maximum negative ξ-potential of -51.2 mV was obtained at pH of 12 for silica. The higher the ξ-potential with the same polarity, higher will be the electrostatic repulsion between the particles. Hence, the maximum electrostatic repulsion force was maintained by the adjustment ofpH value in wet milling. The experiments were conducted at different pH conditions which were maintained constant throughout the experiments and nanosized particles were obtained consequently.  相似文献

The feasibility of using two different microwave-based sample preparation methods was investigated to determine the total and water-soluble trace metal fraction in airborne particulate matter. The extraction techniques were then applied to urban particulate matter of different sizes in order to evaluate their bioavailability of associated trace metals. While a combination of HNO3-HF-H2O2 was used for the total trace metal fraction of particulate matter, water was employed for the microwave-assisted extraction of water-soluble trace metal fractions. Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was used for the analysis of trace elements. The experimental protocol for the microwave assisted digestion was established using two different SRMs (1648, urban particulate matter and 1649a, urban dust). In the case of water-soluble trace metal fraction, the quantities extracted from the SRMs were compared between ultrasonic and microwave-assisted extractions, and there was a good agreement between the two extraction methods. Blanks values and limits of detection (LODs) for total and water-soluble trace metal concentrations were determined for three different filter substrates (Teflon, Zeflour, and Quartz). Subsequently, the proposed digestion method was evaluated for its extraction efficiency with these filter substrates. Finally, the real-world application of the proposed microwave-based sample preparation methods was demonstrated by analyzing trace elements in airborne particulate samples collected from different outdoor environments in Singapore. The solubility of 11 trace elements detected in the particulate samples is quantified.  相似文献

Gas chromatographic multiresidue methods for simultaneous determination of organophosphorus, organochlorine, and organonitrogen pesticides were used to study the exposure of the Indian population to pesticide contamination at their actual dietary intakes. Selected agricultural commodities--5 kinds of vegetables (tomato, potato, okra, cabbage, and green beans), 6 kinds of cereals and pulses (rice, maize, wheat, red gram, black gram, and green gram), and 6 kinds of fruits (mango, orange, guava, banana, apple, and grapes)--readily available in Chennai City local markets--were studied for this purpose. Samples were fortified with known concentrations of various pesticides and subjected to household preparation methods commonly used in India. The impact of household preparation is very high, resulting in 65-95% decontamination of pesticides at different stages. Of 512 raw market samples analyzed, the organochlorine and organophosphorus pesticides present in 12 samples were removed during household preparations, resulting in residues well below the toxicologically acceptable limits.  相似文献
