Ketones were efficiently converted into the corresponding gem-dihydroperoxides in high yields within a short period of time on treatment with aqueous H₂O₂ (50%) in the presence of a catalytic amount of CAN in acetonitrile at room temperature.

A short and stereoselective synthesis of (+)-boronolide via oxidative functionalization of an olefin using a pendant sulfinyl group is described. Diastereoselective allylation was performed using Keck’s protocol and the lactone moiety was prepared by ring closing metathesis.     

An efficient catalyst-free synthesis of thiiranes from oxiranes using polyethylene glycol as the reaction medium

A catalyst-free, high-yielding conversion of oxiranes into thiiranes has efficiently been carried out by treatment with KSCN or thiourea at room temperature using polyethylene glycol (PEG-400) as the reaction medium.     

Influence of temperature on the photometric determination of silicon in ferrous materials

A distinct influence of temperature has been indicated on the colour intensities of the reduced silicomolybdate solution confronted in the estimation of silicon in ferrous materials by the BISRA Methods of Analysis Committee procedure. This influence has been successfully overcome by employing ascorbic acid as a reducing agent in place of stannous chloride and hence the former reagent commends itself for adoption in the above procedure.     

Asymptotic distributions of the likelihood ratio test statistics for covariance structures of the complex multivariate normal distributions

In this paper, the authors derived asymptotic expressions for the null distributions of the likelihood ratio test statistics for multiple independence and multiple homogeneity of the covariance matrices when the underlying distributions are complex multivariate normal. Also, asymptotic expressions are obtained in the non-null cases for the likelihood ratio test statistics for independence of two sets of variables and the equality of two covariance matrices. The expressions obtained in this paper are in terms of beta series. In the null cases, the accuracy of the first terms alone is sufficient for many practical purposes.
