Summary Humic acids prepared from four horizons of a Podzol in the Segeberger Forest as well as different fractions of humic substances (fulvi acid, humic acid, and humin) of the Ahe horizon were characterized by a combination of analytical methods. As basis served the data from elemental analyses, UV/VIS-, FTIR-, and ¹³C-NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography using Fractogel TSK, and vapor pressure osmometry. Utilizing pyrolysis in direct coupling with field ionization mass spectrometry, more detailed information about structural features of the humic substances in soils could be obtained. In this manner, the different importance of carbohydrates, aromatic, and lipidic components in the various fractions is observed. The characteristic temperature dependence of the averaged molecular weights of the pyrolyzates indicates a basic structural skeleton, which is quite similar for the humic acids isolated from the different horizons. By degradation of the carbohydrates and increasing incorporation of lipidic components an enhanced biotransformation takes place with increasing depth of the soil profile.

Über amphotere Eigenschaften der Metalle und die donator-und defektelektronischen Zentren ihrer inhomogenen Oberfläche

Zusammenfassung Es wird eine Theorie über Metalle entwickelt, die in ihrem Grundgedanken dualistisch ist und sich in physikalischer und chemischer Beziehung an die vom Verf. früher angegebene Radikaltheorie aktiver Oxide in logischer Folge angliedert. Im einzelnen werden behandelt: Die Auflösung von Metallen in Säuren, ihre Passivierung sowie Oxidbildung und Rostverhütung, ferner elektrochemische Vorgänge, wie z. B. die NaCl-Elektrolyse. Katalytische Umsetzungen mitsamt Mechanismen wurden am Beispiel des SO₃-Kontaktverfahrens, der Ammoniaksynthese und-oxidation sowie von Dehydratisierungsreaktionen an Metallen besprochen. Auch das geschmolzene Metall fand in diesem Zusammenhang seine Berücksichtigung.

A theory about metals is developed, which is basically of a dualistic nature, and physically and chemically is connected to a radical theory of active oxides, previously developed by the same author. Especially treated are: the dissolution of metals in acids, their passivation and formation of oxides, and the inhibition of rust formation, as well as electrochemical reactions, for instance the NaCl-electrolysis. Catalytic reactions and their mechanism, the catalytic SO₃-process, the NH₃-synthesis and-oxidation, as well as the dehydration reactions on metals are discussed. Molten metals are also considered in this connection.

     

Zur Bestimmung kleiner Mengen von Niob mit 4-(2-Pyridylazo)-resorcin und von Zirkonium mit Brenzcatechinviolett in Stahl

Zusammenfassung Zur Bestimmung von Niob unter 0,06% und Zirkonium unter 0,1% in unlegiertem Stahl wird die Hauptmenge Eisen mit Methylisobutylketon aus 7 N HCl-Lösung abgetrennt. Niob wird bei pH 5,8 durch Komplexbildung mit 4-(2-Pyridylazo)-resorcin und Zirkonium bei pH 5,2 mit Brenzcatechinviolett bestimmt. Die Störungen durch andere Ionen werden durch Zugabe von ÄDTE verhindert und bei der Zirkoniumbestimmung teilweise durch Entfärben des gebildeten Komplexes mit Fluorwasserstoffsäure umgangen. Die erzielte Genauigkeit und der erforderliche Zeitbedarf sind in den Tabellen angegeben.

Summary For the determination of niobium below 0.06% and of zirconium below 0.1% in plain carbon steels most of the iron is extracted by means of MIBK from 7 N HCl solution. Niobium is determined at pH 5.8 with 4-(2-pyridylazo)-resorcinol and zirkonium at pH 5.2 with pyrocatechol violet by the formation of complexes. Interferences from other ions are prevented by the addition of EDTA and in the case of zirconium farther avoided by bleaching the complex with hydrofluoric acid. The accuracy obtained and the time required are reported in the tables.
