The adsorption and desorption kinetics of water molecules on Rh(111) were investigated using temperature programed desorption (TPD). Water molecules on Rh(111) show coverage-dependent sticking probability; the initial sticking probability is estimated to be 0.46. In the desorption process, a dilute gaslike phase and two-dimensional islands of water coexist on the surface. Based on the model proposed by Kreuzer and Payne [Surf. Sci.200, L433 (1988)], the apparent fractional-order TPD spectra can be interpreted as first-order desorption from the coexistence of two phases on which the sticking probabilities are different. Based on this, the previous estimation of pre-exponential factors assuming half-order desorption [A. Beniya et al., J. Chem. Phys.125, 054717 (2006)] should be revised.  相似文献

A size‐selected argon (Ar) gas‐cluster ion beam (GCIB) was applied to the secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) of a 1,4‐didodecylbenzene (DDB) thin film. The samples were also analyzed by SIMS using an atomic Ar+ ion projectile and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Compared with those in the atomic‐Ar+ SIMS spectrum, the fragment species, including siloxane contaminants present on the sample surface, were enhanced several hundred times in the Ar gas‐cluster SIMS spectrum. XPS spectra during beam irradiation indicate that the Ar GCIB sputters contaminants on the surface more effectively than the atomic Ar+ ion beam. These results indicate that a large gas‐cluster projectile can sputter a much shallower volume of organic material than small projectiles, resulting in an extremely surface‐sensitive analysis of organic thin films. Networked polymers that had poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) chains and lithium sulfonylimide salt structures were prepared by curing a mixture of poly(ethylene glycol) diglycidyl ether and lithium 3‐glycidyloxypropanesulfonyl‐trifluoromethanesulfonylimide with poly(ethylene glycol) bis(3‐aminopropyl) terminated. The obtained flexible self‐standing networked polymer films showed high thermal and mechanical stability with relatively high ionic conductivity. The room temperature ionic conductivity under a dry condition was in the range of 10?5 ~ 10?4 S m?1, which is one order of magnitude higher than the corresponding networked polymers having lithium sulfonate salt structures (10?6 ~ 10?5 S m?1). The film sample became swollen by immersing in propylene carbonate (PC) or PC solution of lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI). The sample swollen in PC showed higher ionic conductivity (7.2 × 10?3 S m?1 at room temperature), and the sample swollen in 1.0 M LiTFSI/PC showed much higher ionic conductivity (8.2 × 10?1 S m?1 at room temperature). © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Adsorption structures and interaction of cyclohexane molecules on the clean and hydrogen-preadsorbed Rh(111) surfaces were investigated using scanning tunneling microscopy, spot-profile-analysis low-energy electron diffraction, temperature-programmed desorption, and infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS). Various ordered structures of adsorbed cyclohexane were observed as a function of hydrogen and cyclohexane coverages. When the fractional coverage (θ(H)) of preadsorbed hydrogen was below 0.8, four different commensurate or higher-order commensurate superstructures were found as a function of θ(H); whereas more densely packed incommensurate overlayers became dominant at higher θ(H). IRAS measurements showed sharp softened C-H vibrational peaks at 20 K, which originate from the electronic interaction between adsorbed cyclohexane and the Rh surface. The multiple softened C-H stretching peaks in each phase are due to the variation in the adsorption distance from the substrate. At high hydrogen coverages they became attenuated in intensity and eventually diminished at θ(H) = 1. The gradual disappearance of the soft mode correlates well with the structural phase transition from commensurate structures to incommensurate structures with increasing hydrogen coverage. The superstructure of adsorbed cyclohexane is controlled by the delicate balance between adsorbate-adsorbate and adsorbate-substrate interactions which are affected by preadsorbed hydrogen.  相似文献

We studied the changes in the higher-order structure of a megabase-size DNA (S120-1 DNA) under different spermidine (SPD) concentrations through single-molecule observations using fluorescence microscopy (FM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). We examined the difference between the folding transitions in S120-1 DNA and sub-megabase-size DNA, T4 DNA (166 kbp). From FM observations, it is found that S120-1 DNA exhibits intra-chain segregation as the intermediate state of transition, in contrast to the all-or-none nature of the transition on T4 DNA. Large S120-1 DNA exhibits a folding transition at lower concentrations of SPD than T4 DNA. AFM observations showed that DNA segments become aligned in parallel on a two-dimensional surface as the SPD concentration increases and that highly intense parallel alignment is achieved just before the compaction. S120-1 DNA requires one-tenth the SPD concentration as that required by T4 DNA to achieve the same degree of parallel ordering. We theoretically discuss the cause of the parallel ordering near the transition into a fully compact state on a two-dimensional surface, and argue that such parallel ordering disappears in bulk solution.  相似文献

A fire whirl, observed during a wildland fire in Brazil in 2010, occurred over a narrow but long line fire and moved along the line fire at nearly a constant speed. There appeared to be no mountains, tall buildings or trees near the scene, indicating that the fire whirl was generated merely by the interaction between the line fire and background wind. Scale-model experiments having different line fire configurations were designed and performed to reconstruct the above-mentioned Brazil fire whirl. Moving fire whirls were successfully reconstructed during the scale-model experiments, the mechanism and conditions of which are discussed herein.  相似文献

Electrode structures and photovoltaic properties of porphyrin-sensitized solar cells with TiO2 and Nb-, Ge-, and Zr-added TiO2 composite electrodes were examined to disclose the effects of partial substitution of Ti atom by the other metals in the composite electrodes. The TiO2 and Nb-, Ge-, and Zr-added TiO2 composite electrodes were prepared by sol-gel process using laurylamine hydrochloride as a template for the formation of micellar precursors yielding well-defined mesoporous nanocrystalline structures, as in the cases of the formation of silica and titania tubules and nanoparticles by the templating mechanism. The TiO2 and Nb-, Ge-, and Zr-added TiO2 composite electrodes were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, BET surface area analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, Raman spectroscopy, and impedance measurements. The TiO2 anatase nanocrystalline structure is retained after doping a small amount (5 mol %) of Nb, Ge, or Zr into the TiO2 structure, suggesting the homogeneous distribution of the doped metals with replacing Ti atom by the doped metal. The power conversion efficiency of the porphyrin-sensitized solar cells increases in the order Zr-added TiO2 (0.8%) < Nb-added TiO2 (1.2%) < TiO2 (2.0%) < Ge-added TiO2 cells (2.4%) under the same conditions. The improvement of cell performance of the Ge-added TiO2 cell results from the negative shift of the conduction band of the Ge-added TiO2 electrode. The Ge-added TiO2 cell exhibited a maximum power conversion efficiency of 3.5% when the porphyrin was adsorbed onto the surface of the Ge-added TiO2 electrode with a thickness of 4 microm in MeOH for 1 h.  相似文献

The present research is focussed on the evaluation of a recently developed high performance multidimensional gas chromatographic (MDGC) system employed in the fast analysis of a series of chiral compounds contained in rosemary essential oil. The heart of the MDGC system consists in a simple transfer device for the rapid sequential re-injection of analyte "heart-cuts" from the first to the second dimension. The transfer system has no temperature restrictions, presents very low dead volumes and achieves multidimensional analysis through a pressure-balance mechanism. The MDGC set-up is characterized by two GC ovens (enabling independent temperature programming) and the possibility of mass spectrometric (MS) and/or flame ionization detection (FID). Multiple-cut conventional and fast MDGC-FID methods were developed and the results obtained compared, in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the system. In this respect, the rapid method provided the same analytical result in a greatly reduced time (approximately five times less). Furthermore, quali/quantitative data reproducibilty was very good. Fast MDGC was achieved by using micro-bore (0.1mm I.D.) columns in both dimensions.  相似文献
