A single crystal of gadolinium-doped SmAl(2) has zero magnetization in the midst of the ordered temperature region, despite the probable ferromagnetic spin ordering. The asymmetry in Compton-scattering intensity when switching between right- and left-handed polarization of incident 150-keV synchrotron radiation provides decisive proof that ferromagnetic order is really there, and that spin and orbital magnetic contributions cancel. The experiments also show that the spin direction at this zero-magnetization state is rather stable against the external magnetic field and, nevertheless, reversible by a preceding control of temperature and an external field. 相似文献

In order to investigate the space environment, a new neutron monitor has been prepared. The sensor consists of scintillation fibers (FIB) and will be on board the exposed facility of the Japanese Experimental module (Kibo) of the International Space Station (ISS). The sensor is one of the instruments which measures the particle and plasma environment around the ISS. The sensor will be used by the cosmonauts who work on the ISS, to help them avoid a strong particle radiation which may arrive soon. We believe that such an alert is necessary for the cosmonauts to prevent unnecessary radiation from the sun. Furthermore, the sensor will be very useful in understanding the particle acceleration mechanism at the solar surface. The design of the Engineering Model (EM) was finished and its properties were investigated. This report discusses these results. 相似文献

The state of short-range order (SRO) and the ordering process in Cu3Pt have been studied by the in-situ transmission electron microscope observation method. In order to detect weak diffraction-patterns and weak image-contrasts, an imaging plate system and/or digital-process of video-recorded signals were applied. It is confirmed that above the critical temperature for ordering, Tc, the alloy shows diffuse scattering in its electron diffraction pattern. The appearance of the diffuse scattering indicates that the "disordered" Cu3Pt (designated as A1) has an SRO-state in thermoequilibrium. Dark field images taken by using the diffuse scattering shows a fine dot-contrast, which indicates the presence of "microdomains". The dot-contrast is flickering at higher temperatures, but the rate of flickering decreases with falling temperature and finally stops before reaching Tc. On further decreasing temperature, some of the microdomains grow up to large domains of the long period superstructure (L12-s) phase. This indicates that the transformation to L12-s via SRO proceeds without a process of nucleation even though the transformation is of a first-order. 相似文献

Bulk-crystallized isotactic polypropylene samples with different crystalline textures were etched by fuming nitric acid to remove the disordered region. The radicals produced by irradiation of γ-rays or ultraviolet light on these etched samples in vacuum at liquid nitrogen temperature were investigated by the ESR method. A triplet spectrum in addition to the original spectrum of polypropylene radicals was separated for the etched samples. It was concluded that this triplet was caused by radical species associated with nitro groups introduced on the surface of the crystalline residues by etching. The difference in the intensity of this triplet among the samples was ascribed to differences in crystalline textures and interpreted in a quantitative way. The concentration of polypropylene radicals corrected for the triplet differed among the quenched, annealed, and cold-drawn samples and the sample annealed one after drawing. This fact was interpreted on the basis of the hypothesis that radical sites were almost concentrated in the defects of crystal domain. The well known nonet spectrum, which can be observed at liquid nitrogen temperature after annealing the irradiated samples at room temperature, was also confirmed to be attributable to the defects of crystals. The behavior of free methyl radicals induced by ultraviolet irradiation was also found to be strongly dependent on the state of aggregation of the polymer molecules. 相似文献
