Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization was performed on an external ion source Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer equipped with a 7-T superconducting magnet to analyze end groups of synthetic polymers in the mass range from 500 to 5000 u. Native, perdeutero methylated, propylated, and acetylated polyethylene glycol and polyvinyl pyrrolidone with unknown end-group elemental composition were investigated in the mass range up to 5000 u by using a 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid matrix. A small electrospray setup was used for the deposition of the samples. Two methods to process data were evaluated for the determination of end groups from the measured masses of the component molecules in the molecular weight ranges: a regression method and an averaging method. The averaging method is demonstrated to allow end-group mass determinations with an accuracy within 3 mu for the molecular weight range from 500 to 1400 and within 20 mu for the molecular weight range from 3400 to 5000. This is sufficient to identify the elemental composition of end groups in unknown polymer samples. 相似文献

In this paper we describe a compact fluorescence detection system for on-chip analysis of beads, comprising a low-cost optical HD-DVD pickup. The complete system consists of a fluorescence detection unit, a control unit and a microfluidic chip containing microchannels and optical markers. With these markers the laser beam of the optical pickup can be automatically focused at the centre of the microchannel. With the complete system a two-dimensional fluorescent profile across the channel width can be obtained such that there is no need for hydrodynamic or electrokinetic focusing of the particles in a specific part of the channel. Fluorescent μm sized beads suspended in medium have been detected with the system. Since on both sides of the main beam two additional laser beams at a known distance are generated, also the velocity of individual beads has been determined. 相似文献

In this paper we introduce a generalization of stable sets: stable multi-sets. A stable multi-set is an assignment of integers
to the vertices of a graph, such that specified bounds on vertices and edges are not exceeded. In case all vertex and edge
bounds equal one, stable multi-sets are equivalent to stable sets.
For the stable multi-set problem, we derive reduction rules and study the associated polytope. We state necessary and sufficient
conditions for the extreme points of the linear relaxation to be integer. These conditions generalize the conditions for the
stable set polytope. Moreover, the classes of odd cycle and clique inequalities for stable sets are generalized to stable
multi-sets and conditions for them to be facet defining are determined.
The study of stable multi-sets is initiated by optimization problems in the field of telecommunication networks. Stable multi-sets
emerge as an important substructure in the design of optical networks.

Order batching problem (OBP) is the problem of determining the number of orders to be picked together in one picking tour. Although various objectives may arise in practice, minimizing the average throughput time of a random order is a common concern. In this paper, we consider the OBP for a 2-block rectangular warehouse with the assumptions that orders arrive according to a Poisson process and the method used for routing the order-pickers is the well-known S-shape heuristic. We first elaborate on the first and second moment of the order-picker’s travel time. Then we use these moments to estimate the average throughput time of a random order. This enables us to estimate the optimal picking batch size. Results from simulation show that the method provides a high accuracy level. Water that remains unfrozen at temperatures below the equilibrium bulk freezing temperature, in the presence of ice, is sometimes called unfreezable or bound. This paper analyses the phenomenon in terms of quantitative measurements of the hydration interaction among membranes or macromolecules at freezing temperatures. These results are related to analogous measurements in which osmotic stress or mechanical compression is used to equilibrate water of hydration with a bulk phase. The analysis provides formulas to estimate, at a given sub-freezing temperature, the amount of unfrozen water due to equilibrium hydration effects. Even at tens of degrees below freezing, this hydration effect alone can explain an unfrozen water volume that considerably exceeds that of a single 'hydration shell' surrounding the hydrophilic surfaces. The formulas provided give a lower bound to the amount of unfrozen water for two reasons. First, the well-known freezing point depression due to small solutes is, to zeroth order, independent of the membrane or macromolecular hydration effect. Further, the unfrozen solution found between membranes or macromolecules at freezing temperatures has high viscosity and small dimensions. This means that dehydration of such systems, especially at freezing temperatures, takes so long that equilibrium is rarely achieved over normal experimental time scales. So, in many cases, the amount of unfrozen water exceeds that expected at equilibrium, which in turn usually exceeds that calculated for a single hydration shell. 相似文献
