Reaction of the PtIII complex, [Pt2(μ-NHCOMe)4Cl2], with 1,10-phenanthroline and solid-state thermolysis of 1,10-phenanthroline-containing platinum blues

Platinum blues with the composition Pt(phen)(NHCOMe)₂X (phen is 1,10-phenanthroline, X = NO₃ ^?, CF₃SO₃ ^?, or Cl^?), were synthesized starting from the complex [Pt₂(NHCOMe)₄Cl₂]. The resulting compounds apparently have a polymeric structure with metal centers in different valence states. The reaction of the complex Pt(phen)(NHCOMe)₂NO₃ with H₂O affords crystalline binuclear acetamidate [Pt^III ₂(phen)₂(??-NHCOMe)₂(NHCOMe)₂](NO₃)₂, whose structure was determined by X-ray diffraction. The reaction of the complex Pt(phen)(NHCOMe)₂NO₃ with HCF₃SO₃ leads to the decomposition of the starting compound, the reduction of the Pt atoms, and the formation of the complex [Pt^II ₂(phen)₄](CF₃SO₃)₄. The thermal decomposition of the resulting complexes, as well as the complexes [(phen)Pt-(??-NHCOMe)₂Pt(phen)]₂(NO₃)₄ and [Pt(phen)Cl₂], under an inert atmosphere was studied by DSC and TGA. Metallic platinum nanopowders are thermal decomposition products of the complexes under study.     

Self-and cross-phase modulation accompanying third-harmonic generation in a hollow waveguide

The influence of self-and cross-phase modulation on third-harmonic generation in a hollow waveguide is investigated. Analytic solutions of the coupled equations for the slowly varying amplitudes of the pump pulse and the third harmonic in a gas-filled hollow waveguide are obtained with consideration of self-and cross-phase modulation and first-order dispersion effects. The possibility of controlling the nonlinear phase trajectory of the third harmonic by cross-phase modulation is demonstrated. Zh. éksp. Teor. Fiz. 115, 1561–1579 (May 1999)     

Effect of deformation on the electronic structure and topological properties of the A<Superscript>II</Superscript>Mg<Subscript>2</Subscript>Bi<Subscript>2</Subscript> (A<Superscript>II</Superscript> = Mg,Ca,Sr,Ba) compounds

The electronic structure and topological properties of the A^IIMg₂Bi₂ (A^II = Mg,Ca,Sr,Ba) compounds are theoretically studied with the use of exact exchange. It is found that the Mg₃Bi₂ compound in the equilibrium state is a semimetal, whereas three other compounds are semiconductors with a direct fundamental band gap. It is predicted that the uniaxial deformation of three-component compounds results in transitions to topologically nontrivial phases: topological insulator and topological and Dirac semimetals. Owing to such a rich variety of topologically nontrivial phases, these compounds may be of interest for further theoretical and experimental studies.
