Directed phosphorylation of 2-C-hydroxymethyl-2,3:5,6-di-O-isopropylidene-D-mannofuranose

Directed - or -phosphorylation of 2-C-hydroxymethyl-2,3:5,6-di-O-isopropylidene-D-mannofuranose is possible, this depends on the nature of the phosphorylating agent.     

Molecular structures of 3,5,6-bicyclothiophosphates and 3,5,6-bicycloselenophosphates of 1,2-O-isopropylidene-α-D-glucofuranose

An x-ray diffraction structural analysis was carried out for the 3,5,6-bicyclothiophosphate and 3,5,6-bicycloselenophosphate of 1,2-O-isopropylidene--D-glucopyranose. The colorless, orthorhombic crystals are nonisometric. The O-P-O bond angles at pentavalent phosphorus vary from 97.6–105.1°, i.e., the phospholane-phosphorinane fragment in these molecules is highly strained. All the bond lengths in these molecules have ordinary values.Moscow State Pedagogical Institute. Strong spin-orbit splitting on bi surfaces

Using first-principles calculations and angle-resolved photoemission, we show that the spin-orbit interaction leads to a strong splitting of the surface-state bands on low-index surfaces of Bi. The dispersion of the states and the corresponding Fermi surfaces are profoundly modified in the whole surface Brillouin zone. We discuss the implications of these findings with respect to a proposed surface charge density wave on Bi(111) as well as to the surface screening, surface spin-density waves, electron (hole) dynamics in surface states, and to possible applications to the spintronics.     

Synthesis and Properties of Hydroxyl-Containing Ionic Liquids

Hydroxyl-containing ionic liquids were synthesized by quaternization of 1,2-dimethyl-1H-imidazole, N-methylpyrrolidine, and pyridine with 2-chloroethanol or 6-chlorohexan-1-ol, followed by exchange of chloride ion for bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)azanide, and their properties were studied.
