A crosslinkable biphenylmethylpolysiloxane stationary phase was synthesized for capillary column gas chromatography and compared with methyl, phenyl, and cyanopropyl polysiloxane stationary phases for the separation of isomeric polycyclic aromatic compounds. While the new phase gave similar separations of nonpolar isomers when compared to the nonpolar phases, separations of polar isomers were greatly improved because of the induced polarity of the biphenyl group of the stationary phase by the solute molecules. This polarizable stationary phase offers a unique selectivity which is not available in other stationary phases.  相似文献

Abstract —Repair of DNA damage produced by ultraviolet light or 5-methylisopsoralen in normal and xeroderma pigmentosum human cells involves many similar steps. Aphidicolin and cytosine arabinoside block repair of both kinds of damage with similar efficiency, indicating that DNA polymerase a has a major role in repair for these lesions. In xeroderma pigmentosum cells of various complementation groups, the relative efficiency of excision repair for both ultraviolet- and 5-methylisopsoralen-induced damage was group A < C < D, indicating a close resemblance between both kinds of lesions in relation to the repair deficiencies in these groups. At high doses, the maximum rate of repair of damage by ultraviolet light was about twice that for methylisopsoralen damage, possibly because ultraviolet-induced damage forms a substrate that is more readily recognized and excised than that of the psoralen adducts. Differences in the structural distortions to DNA caused by these kinds of damage could be detected using single strand specific nucleases which excised dimers but not 5-MIP adducts from double strand DNA.  相似文献

The feasibility of measuring total body carbon (TBC) based on prompt-gamma activation analysis (PGAA) of the human body was examined. Preliminary analyzes for 33 healthy pre-menopausal women indicated a range of TBC values (7.1±4.4 kg) which translated to 17.1±6.5 kg body fat (27.9%±7.9% of body weight). An advantage of the PGAA measurement is that fat mass can be obtained simultaneous with that of total body protein mass, both indices serving as useful body composition markers of the nutritional status.  相似文献

The stability and properties of dilute solution hydrogels, synthesized by transition metal mediated polymerization of amino acid N-carboxyanhydrides (NCAs), have been studied in deionized (DI) water as well as various ionic media. These hydrogels are diblock amphiphilic copolymers of hydrophilic, charged segments of poly(l-lysine HBr) or poly(l-glutamic acid sodium salt), and helical, hydrophobic segments of poly(l-leucine). While many of these samples are able to form strong gels in deionized water at polymer concentrations as low as 0.25 wt %, stability in salt or buffer solutions was found to be only achieved at moderately higher polymer concentrations ( approximately 3.0 wt %). We have adjusted relative copolymer compositions and molecular weights to optimize hydrogel strength and polymer solubility in salt concentrations up to 0.5 M NaCl, as well as in cell growth media and aqueous buffers of varying pH. These materials are unique since they do not collapse in high ionic strength media, even though gel formation is contingent upon the presence of highly charged polyelectrolyte segments. The remarkable properties of these hydrogels make them excellent candidates for use as scaffolds in biomedical applications, such as tissue regeneration.  相似文献

The cresolphthalein complexone method for serum calcium determination was investigated by means of a modified Technicon Autoanalyzer II under computer control. Simplex optimization of reagent concentrations, followed by response-surface mapping in the region of the optimum produced a method yielding 8.5% greater calcium sensitivity and 15% lower baseline absorbance than the standard method, with comparable insensitivity to interferences, and only a very slight sacrifice in linearity; a comprehensive operational understanding of the chemical system was also obtained.  相似文献

Capillary electrophoresis-electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (CE-ESI-MS) has been used for investigating the influence of the sulfur containing amino acid L-methionine (L-Met) on the binding behavior of oxaliplatin (trans-R,R-diaminocyclohexane-(oxalato)platinum(II)) to 5'-GMP. L-Methionine competes with 5'-GMP for the platinum binding site and forms as well as 5'-GMP adducts with oxaliplatin. The formation of the prognosed complexes [Pt(DACH)(L-Met-S,N)]+ and [Pt(DACH)(5'-GMP)2]2- (DACH = 1,2-diaminocyclohexane) could be proved directly by using CE-ESI-MS. Furthermore, we could now bring forward proofs, that the coordination of 5'-GMP with oxaliplatin is inhibited by L-methionine and could show, that the 5'-GMP ligands of the [Pt(DACH) (5'-GMP)2]2- complex can be replaced slowly by L-methionine whereas methionine can not be replaced by GMP.  相似文献

Selective extraction techniques followed by adsorption experiment and statistical analysis were employed to estimate and compare the relative roles of metal oxides and organic substance in adsorption of Pb, Cd, Cu and Co onto surface coatings. Results indicated that metal oxides were very important sorbents for all of metal ions involved in this study, especially for Pb and Co. Furthermore, manganese oxides contributed to the absolute majority of Co adsorption regardless of concentration. But for Cu and Cd, organic materials are also very important sorbent phases, particularly for Cu, organic materials contributed to most of the Cu adsorption regardless of concentration. In addition, the analysis suggested the extraordinary predominance of Mn oxides for metal adsorption at the low concentrations. Considering the low concentration in natural water environments, Mn oxides might exert the greatest influence on the behavior of heavy metals.  相似文献
