Lightning-resistant carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics modified with carbon nanoparticles obtained by an infusion molding process

Composition and processing techniques of polymeric composite material with increased conductivity intended for use as a lightning protective coating have been developed. Material obtained by the infusion molding process is carbon nanocomposite material modified by the introduction of carbon nanoparticles into the composition of a polymer matrix. The results of the investigation of physicochemical properties and lightning resistance of the developed carbon nanocomposite are presented.     

TNT-Based condensation monomers and polymers

New aromatic diamines were obtained on the basis of available and inexpensive 2, 4, 6-trinitrotoluene (trotyl, TNT). Monomers obtained were used for the preparation of the new organo-soluble polyimides containing thiophenoxy and phenoxy side groups.     

Behavior of PNIPAM Microgels in Different Organic Solvents

In this research, we studied, in detail, the behavior of common PNIPAM microgels, obtained through surfactant-free precipitation polymerization, in a number of organic solvents. We showed that many of the selected solvents serve as good solvents for the PNIPAM microgels and that the size and architecture of the microgels depend on the solvent chosen. Expanding the range of solvents used for PNIPAM microgel incubation greatly enhances the possible routes for microparticle functionalization and modification, as well as the encapsulation of water-insoluble species. In this demonstration, we successfully encapsulated water-insoluble Sudan III dye in PNIPAM microgels and prepared the aqueous dispersions of such composite-colored microparticles.     

Stability of a microwave heated fluid Layer

When a time harmonic electromagnetic wave impinges on a slaba certain portion of the wave creates heat within the slab throughdipolar and ohmic heating. The electrical and thermal propertiesof the material dictate the dynamical nature of the heatingprocess, as well as the steady-state temperature profile. Thematerial considered here is a slab of fluid. We consider thecase where the fluid is bounded by thin rigid layers of transparentmaterial. The steady-state heating profile governs the typesof convective motions that can occur and also affects the stabilitycharacteristics of temperature, pressure and velocity perturbationsintroduced in the slab. The main objective here is to examinesuch stability characteristics, initially in the linear regime.Both rigid-rigid and rigid-free configurations are considered.     

Investigation of the formation of poly(ethylene terephthalate) with model molecules: Kinetics and mechanisms of the catalytic esterification and alcoholysis reactions. II. Catalysis by metallic derivatives (monofunctional reactants)

The reactions of model molecules were considered to study the kinetics and the mechanism of the esterification and the alcoholysis reactions catalyzed by various metal compounds (Li, Na, K, Zn, Co, Mn, Ti). Ti was found to be the most active catalyst for both reactions and to be acting via a different mechanism (concerted). The possible structure of the active titanium intermediate was investigated by means of ¹H- and ¹³C-NMR spectroscopy, FT–IR spectroscopy, and electroconductivity.
