Synthesis of Pyrazolo[3,4‐b]pyridin‐6‐ones

The procedures for the synthesis of substituted pyrazolo[3,4‐b]pyridine‐6‐ones and some of their properties are reviewed.     

Diels-alder reactions with cyclic sulfones: VIII. Organic catalysis in the synthesis of spiro[1-benzothiophene-4,5′-pyrimidine]-2′,4′,6′-trione 1,1-dioxides and 2′-thioxospiro[1-benzothiophene-4,5′-pyrimidine]-4′,6′-dione 1,1-dioxides

5-Isopropenyl-2,3-dihydrothiophene 1,1-dioxide reacted with 5-methylidenepyrimidine-2,4,6-triones and 5-methylidene-2-thioxopyrimidine-4,6-diones in the presence of chiral amines or amino acids with high regio- and stereoselectivity to give optically active derivatives of barbituric and thiobarbituric acids spirofused at the 5-position to 1-benzothiophene 1,1-dioxide fragment. The reaction of 5-isopropenyl-2,3-dihydrothiophene 1,1-dioxide with 5-(2-methoxybenzylidene)-2-thioxopyrimidine-4,6-dione (generated in situ from 2-methoxybenzaldehyde and thiobarbituric acid) in the presence of (?)-ephedrine or L-4-(tert-butyldimethylsiloxy) proline gave the corresponding 2-thioxospiro[1-benzothiophene-4,5′-pyrimidine]-4′,6′-dione 1,1-dioxide with an enantiomeric excess of 80%.     

New poly(arylene ethers) containing side sulfo groups

New poly(arylene ethers) containing side sulfo groups have been synthesized through the copolycondensation of 3,5-dinitrodiphenyl sulfone 4′-sulfonic acid and 4,4′-dichlorodiphenyl sulfone with bicyclic aromatic bisphenols under the conditions of aromatic nucleophilic substitution. On the basis of the blends of these copolymers with sulfonated poly(arylene ester ether ketone), membranes with satisfactory mechanical characteristics and high proton conductivity have been prepared.     

Dextran as antioxidant's activity carrier

Two series of conjugates of dextran and antioxidants from the class of sterically hindered phenols were prepared. The conjugates were characterized by the substitution degree of glycoside units, solubility in different solvents, intrinsic viscosity. The investigation of radical scavenging activity (RSA) of conjugates was carried out in their reactions with two free radicals — 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and sodium salt of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl sulfonic acid (DPPH-salt). The usage of water soluble DPPH-salt enabled to estimate the RSA of the conjugates in water. It was shown that the rate constants of interaction of the DPPH-salt and the conjugates were 10–30 times higher than this value for low-molecular analogue of phenoxan. High RSA of the conjugates in water can be explained by large solvation shell formed due to high content of hydroxy groups in dextran.
