The ensemble-averaged spatial coherence of quasi-thermal light, produced by passing a focused laser beam through a rotating ground glass plate, is studied as a function of the illuminated area, the fineness of the glass used, the speed of rotation of the glass, and the laser mode selected as a primary source. It becomes clear that the ensemble-averaged spatial coherence depends strongly upon the illuminated area and on the fineness of the rotating ground glass, and also on the laser mode chosen but not on the speed of rotation of the glass. 相似文献

Fraunhofer diffraction patterns of off-axis Gaussian beams passing through an optical system having primary spherical aberration are investigated. A formula was derived in paper 1 of the this series for investigating the Fresnel diffraction field of a slit aperture when the mutual coherence function of the illumination contains a quadratic phase term. That formula is applied to study the intensity distribution in the Fresnel diffraction field of a slit aperture illuminated by a quasi-monochromatic incoherent slit source. The reduction mechanism of speckles appearing in laser-microscope images is studied theoretically and experimentally when an object is illuminated by laser light through a rotating multimode optical fiber. The principle of the speckle reduction is based on independent addition of microscope images with boiling-like speckles as a result of the rotational motion of the optical fiber used for illumination. Reactions occurring at surfaces and interfaces necessitate the creation of well-designed surface and interfacial structures. To achieve a combination of bulk material (i.e., framework) and void spaces, a meticulous process of “nano-architecting” of the available space is necessary. Conventional porous materials such as mesoporous silica, zeolites, and metal–organic frameworks lack advanced cooperative functionalities owing to their largely monotonous pore geometries and limited conductivities. To overcome these limitations and develop functional structures with surface-specific functions, the novel materials space-tectonics methodology has been proposed for future materials synthesis. This review summarizes recent examples of materials synthesis based on designing building blocks (i.e., tectons) and their hybridization, along with practical guidelines for implementing materials syntheses and state-of-the-art examples of practical applications. Lamellar structure of poly(Ala-Gly) or (AG)n in the solid was examined using 13C solid-state NMR and statistical mechanical approaches. Two doubly labeled versions, [1-13C]Gly14[1-13C]Ala15- and [1-13C]Gly18[1-13C]Ala19 of (AG)15 were examined by two-dimensional (2D) 13C spin diffusion NMR in the solid state. In addition five doubly labeled [15N,13C]-versions of the same peptide, (AG) 15 and 15 versions labeled [3-13C] in each of the successive Ala residues were utilized for REDOR and 13C CP/MAS NMR measurements, respectively. The observed spin diffusion NMR spectra were consistent with a structure containing a combination of distorted beta-turns with a large distribution of the torsion angles and antiparallel beta-sheets. The relative proportion of the distorted beta-turn form was evaluated by examination of 13C CP/MAS NMR spectra of [3-13C]Ala-(AG)15. In addition, REDOR determinations showed five kinds of atomic distances between doubly labeled 13C and 15N nuclei which were also interpreted in terms of a combination of beta-sheets and beta-turns. Our statistical mechanical analysis is in excellent agreement with our Ala Cbeta 13C CP/MAS NMR data strongly suggesting that (AG)15 has a lamellar structure. 相似文献

beta-Strand peptides are known to assemble into either antiparallel (AP) or parallel (P) beta-sheet forms which are very important motifs for protein folding and fibril formations occurring in silk fibroin or amyloid proteins. Well-resolved 1H NMR signals including NH protons were observed for alanine tripeptides (Ala)3 with the AP and P structures as well as (Ala)n (n = 4-6) by high-field/fast magic-angle spinning NMR. Amide NH and amino NH3+ 1H signals of (Ala)3 with the P structure were well resonated at 7.5 and 8.9 ppm, respectively, whereas they were not resolved for the AP structure. Notably, NH 1H signals of (Ala)3 and (Ala)4 taking the P structure are resonated at higher field than those of the AP structure by 1.0 and 1.1 ppm, respectively. Further, NH 15N signals of (Ala)3 with the AP structure were resonated at lower field by 2 to 5 ppm than those of (Ala)3 with the P structure. These relative 1H and 15N hydrogen bond shifts of the P structure with respect to those of the AP structure are consistent with the relative hydrogen bond lengths of the interstrand N-H...O=C bonds. Distinction between the two crystallographically independent chains present in the AP and P structures was feasible by 15N chemical shifts but not by 1H chemical shifts because of insufficient spectral resolution in the latter. Calculated 1H and 15N shielding constants by density functional theory are generally consistent with the experimental data, although some discrepancies remain depending upon the models used. 相似文献

A dispersion theory for linear optical properties of two-phase layered-geometry nanocomposites is presented. Generalized dispersion relations and sum rules are stated using the results from complex analysis. The concept of Lorentzian linear susceptibility is exploited in theoretical treatment of the effective linear susceptibility of the nanocomposite. This study demonstrates the reaction behavior during the purification of model automotive exhaust gases over Pd catalysts before and after thermal degradation. In particular, to investigate the relationship between the Pd state and the reaction behavior of Pd/Al2O3 and Pd/CeO2−ZrO2 (CZ), operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy measurements were performed during purifying exhaust gases over real and model catalysts mimicking the degradation of Pd particles and CZ supports after accelerated aging tests. The NO reduction activity of the aggregated Pd metal species was as high as that of the highly dispersed Pd species, but hydrocarbon (HC) poisoning was significantly enhanced by the aggregation of Pd metal particles caused by thermal aging. The existence of a three-phase boundary (TPB) between the CZ, the Pd particles, and the gas phase strongly affected the catalytic activity at low temperatures, and the presence of a sufficient TPB facilitated the combustion of unburned HCs owing to the oxygen storage performance of CZ. Thus, the TPB reduced the poisoning of the precious metal surface by HC species at low temperatures. Therefore, the findings of this study will facilitate the development of next-generation gas purification catalysts with high activity and durability. 相似文献

We report the synthesis of N-isopropylacrylamide-based hydrogels containing either an anionic (acrylic acid) or cationic ([2-(acryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethylammonium
chloride) co-monomer. These hydrogels were cross-linked with a cleaveable (N,N′-cystaminebisacrylamide) and/or inert (N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide) molecule in four combinations. Gold nanostructures were then synthesized within these hydrogel matrices
by in situ reduction of a metal ion precursor. The resulting eight nanocomposites and their non-gold-containing (native) analogs
were characterized with several analytical methods. UV–visible and infrared spectroscopy revealed differences among the samples
based largely on the concentration and identity of cross-linking agent. Equilibrium swelling masses and phase transition behavior
point to differences among samples on charge of the hydrogel backbone, cross-linker type, and presence or absence of gold
nanostructures. A molecular level explanation for these observations is described. 相似文献
