Liftings and Mean Value Theorems for Automorphic L-Functions

A general mean value theorem for Dirichlet series, with a sharperror estimate near the boundary of the critical strip, is proved.Applications of this theorem to various automorphic L-functionsare discussed. Moreover, sharp upper bounds of mean square valuesof L-functions are obtained when they are attached to liftedforms, such as Doi–Naganuma and Ikeda lifts in the theoryof Siegel modular forms. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification11F66, 11M41.     

PHOTOCHEMISTRY OF ALL-TRANS- AND 13-CIS-14,15-DIDEUTERIORETINAL

Abstract— All- trans - and 13- cis -14,15-dideuterioretinal were synthesized and their solution photochemistry examined. Quantum yields of trans → cis or cis → trans photoisomerization and the number and ratio of primary photoproducts, determined by high pressure liquid chromatographic analysis, are essentially identical to that of their corresponding retinal isomer. The C-14, C-15 carbon-hydrogen modes play no particularly important role in the deactivation of electronically excited linear polyenes related to retinal.     

New nucleotide pairs for stable DNA triplexes stabilized by stacking interaction

New nucleotide pairs applicable to formation of DNA triplexes were developed. We designed oligonucleotides incorporating 5-aryl deoxycytidine derivatives (dC5Ars) and cyclic deoxycytidine derivatives, dCPPP and dCPPI, having an expanded aromatic area, as the second strand. As pairing partners, two types of abasic residues (C3: propylene linker, phi: abasic base) were chosen. It was concluded that, when the 5-aryl-modified cytosine bases paired with the abasic sites in TFOs in a space-fitting manner, the stability of the resulting triplexes significantly increased. The recognition of C3 toward dC5Ars was selective because of the stacking interactions between their aromatic part and the nucleobases flanking the abasic site. These results indicate the potential utility of new nucleotide triplets for DNA triplex formation, which might expand the variety of structures and sequences and might be useful for biorelated fields such as DNA nanotechnologies.     

Synthesis of branched oligonucleotides with three different sequences using an oxidatively removable tritylthio group

We synthesized a three-way branched oligodeoxynucleotide (ODN) 30-mer using a new branch unit with acid-labile DMTr and oxidatively cleavable TrS groups as orthogonal protecting groups. The branched ODN was successfully synthesized using 5-[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-1H-tetrazole and (2R,8aS)-(+)-(camphorylsulfonyl)oxaziridine as the activator of phosphoramidite units and the oxidizing reagent, respectively. We also found that the TrS group was orthogonal to the Lev, TBDMS, and Fmoc groups. These results indicate the possibility of the synthesis of more complex four- and five-way branched ODNs by the combined use of DMTr, TrS, Lev, TBDMS, and Fmoc groups.     

Preparation of cerium-loaded Y-zeolites for removal of organic sulfur compounds from hydrodesulfurizated gasoline and diesel oil

Ce(IV)-loaded Y-zeolites (CeY) were prepared for selective removal of the trace amount of organic sulfur compounds from hydrodesulfurization (HDS)-treated diesel oil. The CeY samples can be obtained from NH4-Y-zeolite (NH4Y) using liquid-phase ion-exchange and solid-state ion-exchange methods. The ion-exchange reactions, structures, and selective adsorptions of organic sulfur compounds of the CeY samples were investigated using XRD, IR, XPS, TEM, and GC sulfur analyzer. The organic sulfur compound uptakes strongly depend on the amount and the valency of Ce in the zeolite structure. Ce(IV) shows much higher adsorptive ability than Ce(III). A CeY-S sample prepared by solid-state ion-exchange reaction of NH4Y and Ce(NO3)3 with Ce/NH4 mole ratio of 0.63 at 250 degrees C showed a maximum sulfur uptake from a model solution of HDS-treated gasoline containing thiophene [S = 5 ppm (ppm = mg/L)]. A desulfurization from a HDS-treated diesel oil containing organic sulfur compounds (S = 1.87 ppm) and H2S (S = 0.73 ppm) was investigated with a combination of the CeY-S and a CuO adsorbent for removal of H2S by a batch method. The sulfur content was reduced to below 0.01 ppm for the first time. This method provides a promising desulfurization process to prepare a clean fuel for fuel cells.     

VISUAL PIGMENTS—10. SPECTROSCOPY AND PHOTOPHYSICAL DYNAMICS OF RETINOL AND RETINYL ETHER

Abstract— The absorption and emission spectra, lifetimes and quantum yields of all-trans retinol have been examined as a function of solvent and temperature. In addition, the spectroscopy of retinyl ether and 2 other polyene alcohols have been determined. Based on the results obtained, we conclude that the singlet excited state of retinol and retinyl cther is of a forbidden character and of the type loosely called ¹A^-_g. Retinol forms a dimer in an alkane solvent when cooling from 298 to 77 K. A general structure for the dimer is proposed.     

A canonical module characterization of Serre’s (R1)

In this short note, we give a characterization of domains satisfying Serre’s condition (R₁) in terms of their canonical modules. In the special case of toric rings, this generalizes a result of the second author [9 Yanagawa, K. (2015). Dualizing complexes of seminormal a?ne semigroup rings and toric face rings. J. Algebra 425:367–391.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] , [Google Scholar]] where the normality is described in terms of the “shape” of the canonical module.     

On mixed joint discrete universality for a class of zeta-functions. II

We investigate the mixed joint discrete value distribution and the mixed joint discrete universality for the pair consisting of a rather general form of zeta-function with an Euler product and a periodic Hurwitz zeta-function with transcendental parameter. The common differences of relevant arithmetic progressions are not necessarily the same. Also some generalizations are given. For this purpose, certain arithmetic conditions on the common differences are used.
