The Ramsey property for graphs with forbidden complete subgraphs

The following theorem is proved: Let G be a finite graph with cl(G) = m, where cl(G) is the maximum size of a clique in G. Then for any integer r ≥ 1, there is a finite graph H, also with cl(H) = m, such that if the edges of H are r-colored in any way, then H contains an induced subgraph G′ isomorphic to G with all its edges the same color.     

Planar waveguide lasers and structures created by laser ablation — an overview

The parameters of planar and channel waveguide lasers fabricated by different techniques are reviewed. Materials and properties of thin films used for creation of planar waveguide lasers are summarized. The parameters of active and passive planar waveguides created by the method of pulsed laser deposition and problems of laser deposition are described. The aspects of laser generation of planar waveguide lasers, resonators and channel waveguides are presented. The results of our experiments of laser deposition of thin Ti:sapphire layers and thin layers of Nd:YAG and Nd:YAP are briefly discussed. Molecular dynamics simulations of the oligonucleotide with the modified phosphate/phosphonate internucleotide linkage

Impact of the internucleotide linkage modification by inserting a methylene group to the P-O bond (—O—PO ₂ ^— —O— chain changed for —O—PO ₂ ^— —CH₂—O—), on the modified oligonucleotide binding ability to the natural DNA strand was studied by molecular dynamics simulation. Complex of (dT)₁₁ with a deoxyadenosine undecamer containing alternating modified and natural internucleotide linkage was studied as a model system. The Amber force field was completed by a set of new parameters needed to model the modified part of the nucleotide. The simulations confirmed existence of a double-helical complex the melting point of which is considerably higher than 300 K. While the thymidine (unmodified) strand possesses a B-type secondary structure, the conformation of the adenosine (modified) strand is not stable at 300 K. The -ggt conformation of the modified linkages is highly preferred, temporary jumps to the -g-gt and ggt conformations were, however, observed.     

Carbonaceous phases by IR laser-induced decomposition of 3-butyn-2-one

2 laser radiation in the gas phase results in the deposition of carbonaceous films composed of a graphitic and monohydrogenated carbon, in which H is dominantly bonded to sp³ sites. The films incorporate oxygen in the topmost layers. The technique is suitable for the preparation of thin C-based films at low substrate temperatures. Influence of the Tl- and Hg-content on magnetic and transport properties of the Pb, Sr-doped Tl-1223 and Hg-1223 superconductors

The effects of the thallium and mercury content x on the as-sintered and post annealed samples of M_xPb_0.4Sr_1.6Ba_0.4Ca₂Cu₃O_8+δ {M: Tl (0.32≤x≤0.74) or Hg (0.18≤x≤0.68)} have been studied by magnetization and transport measurements. For Tl-1223 we have found the optimum Tl doping level to be x=0.53 regarding the grain properties, the content of superconducting phase, the first penetration field H_pl^wl, the transport (J_c^tr), magnetic intergrain (J_c^M) and intragrain (J_c^g) critical current densities. The critical temperature T_c of the as-sintered Tl-1223 sample decreased with increasing Tl content. Post-annealing in oxygen improved the T_c for Tl contents of x≥0.53 and had generally positive effects on the critical current densities. The intergrain properties of the Hg-1223 samples were much worse than those of the Tl-based superconductors.     

Er-doped twin-core fibre coupler as a saturable-absorber-based narrow-band filter for fibre lasers

We have proposed and demonstrated experimentally that an Er-doped twin-core fibre (ErTCF) can be employed as a tracking narrow-band filter in fibre ring lasers for line narrowing and enhancement of the spectral stability. The device mimics a saturable absorber with inhomogeneous broadening. The slow erbium ion saturation dynamics in the ErTCF prevents wavelength hopping whilst it enables the filter to track the operation wavelength on its tuning. We have improved the device operation by utilizing the inherent filtering effect of a twin-core fibre coupler. Comparative analysis of (p,d), (d,t) and (3He, α) reactions on13C nucleus

The angular distributions of the (p, d), (d, t) and(³He, ) reactions on¹³C have been analysed within the framework of DWBA in which additional information on nuclear vertex constants was introduced. Although all these reactions seem to be similar single nucleon transfer, their mechanism is shown to be quite different and so is the information extracted thereof. While from the (p, d) reactions spectroscopic factors may be extracted unambiguously, from the (d, t) reactions it is possible to obtain directly the values of vertex constants only, which in turn are consistent with those determined by extrapolation of the experimental cross sections of the (p, d) reactions to the pole.In the case of (³He, ) reactions, however, the analysis indicates inadequacy of the DWBA concerning the calculations of central partial amplitudes. For a more reliable extraction of structural information, besides the correct normalization of peripheral amplitudes, a contribution of more complex mechanisms must be taken into account.     

Topological solitons and zero modes in high-T c superconductivity

The realization of topological solitons, zero modes, and supersymmetry in theCP ₁ nonlinear sigma model, a theory of high-T _c superconductivity, is presented.     

Carrier envelope phase stabilization of a Yb:KGW laser amplifier

In this paper we report on the active stabilization of the carrier envelope phase (CEP) of a Yb:KGW chirped pulse amplifier laser system seeded by a Yb-doped solid-state Kerr-lens mode-locked oscillator. The regenerative amplifier delivers 180 fs CEP stable pulses of 30 μJ-1 mJ energy at a repetition rate tunable from 1 to 200 kHz. The bandwidth of the feedback loop was extended by a factor of 5 using a specially designed high-pass filter, which resulted in a dramatic decrease of CEP jitter below 0.45 rad after the amplifier.
