Foils of lanthanum were found to be converted entirely to the h. c. p. modification by the rolling process. This made it possible to obtain the superconducting transition temperatures for both the h. c. p. and f. c. c. modifications of lanthanum from measurements of the electrical resistivity. Lanthanum foils in the h. c. p. form exhibited a superconducting transition at 4.9° K while foils in the f. c. c. form became superconducting at 6.0° K. Cold working lowered the transition temperature of the h. c. p. modification. — Quenching condensation provided films of the h. c. p. modification, their transition temperature being depressed by the quenching condensation. — Small additions of gadolinium lowered the transition temperatures as well of the quenchingly condensed as of the annealed films at the same rate of 4.5° K per at % Gd. From the accordance of these rates it is concluded that the lowering of the transition temperature by paramagnetic impurities is not affected by quenching condensation. One hundred classical trajectories have been numerically generated for solvating collisions of D+ with the stable light-water cluster (H2O)8. Ten distinct open channels were discovered, with product-ion hydration numbers ranging from 1 to 6. The deuteron tends preferentially to be carried away in neutrals, particularly when large ions are formed. The decays of the 25 min-Ag106g and 8.3 d-Ag106m have been investigated using Ge(Li)- and Si(Li)-counters. Theγ-rays of 17 transitions in the Ag106g -decay and of 42 transitions in the Ag106m -decay have been observed and their energies and relative intensities have been determined. The intensities of theseγ-rays and the intensities of conversion-electrons known from earlier measurements allow the determination ofK-conversion-coefficients for 23 transitions. The present data are consistent with a level-scheme of Pd106 having states at 0, 0+; 511.8, 2+; 1127.8, 2+; 1133.1, 0+; 1228.8, 4+; 1557.4, 3+; 1562, 2+; 1702.8, 4+; 1931.7, 3, 4+; 2002, 0+; 2040.4, 3, 4+; 2076.8, 3, 4+; 2084.2, 3?; 2305.7, 4?; 2324, 1, 2+; 2350.4, 3, 4+; 2365.3, 3, 4+; 2529, 1, 2+; 2756.3, 5+; 2951.3 keV, 5+. Luminescent response of anthracene to channeled α-particles transmitted parallel to the [001]-axis is investigated. A simple theoretical model is presented and comparisons made with experiment. For a given specific energy lossdE/dx the luminescent response to channeled α-particles is the same as to randomly incident particles. This result is concluded from the good agreement of theoretical calculations and experimental measurements within the accuracy of about ± 3%. The relationship between specific luminescencedS/dx of anthracene and specific energy lossdE/dx is used for the calculations.
