Thermodynamics of the xenon + methyl chloride system

The total vapour pressure of the xenon + methyl chloride system has been measured as a function of composition at 175.44 and 182.32 K. The resulting data have been used to evaluate the excess Gibbs functions G^E at the same temperatures. The excess enthalpy and excess molar volume have also been measured at 182.32 K. The system shows large positive deviations from Raoult's law but negative volumes on mixing. These results are compared with theoretical predictions of a recent molecular theory and of standard engineering methods. The calculations show the superiority of the molecular theory over more empirical procedures such as those based on the Redlich-Kwong equation of state or the regular-solution model.

Their function is to recognize and bind the respective hormone; the biological action of the hormone originates from the hormone-receptor complex. Specific receptors have been found for all known hormones. Monitoring the equilibration between hormone, receptor, and hormone-receptor complex (“determination of receptor binding”) permits quantitative determinations of hormones, allows the characterization of endocrinal disturbances, and contributes to the elucidation of structure-affinity relationships.

A novel type of opening of an ethylene ketal has been observed in the reaction of 1 with alane RA1Me₂. The reaction is explained in terms of a nucleophilic attack on the ketal methylene synchronous with participation by one of the ketal oxygens in the opening of the epoxide function located across the 7-membered ring of 1.
