The technique of speckle visibility spectroscopy has been employed for the measurement of dynamics using coherent X‐ray scattering. It is shown that the X‐ray contrast within a single exposure can be related to the relaxation time of the intermediate scattering function, and this methodology is applied to the diffusion of 72 nm‐radius latex spheres in glycerol. Data were collected with exposure times as short as 2 ms by employing a resonant shutter. The weak scattering present for short exposures necessitated an analysis formalism based on the spatial correlation function of individual photon charge droplets on an area detector, rather than the usual methods employed for intensity correlations. It is demonstrated that this method gives good agreement between theory and experiment and thus holds promise for extending area‐detector‐based coherent scattering methods to the study of faster dynamics than previously obtainable.  相似文献

Many models of neuronal activity exhibit complex oscillations in response to an input from other neurons in a network or to an input from a stimulus. We consider the effect of a single short stimulus on a simple model designed to mimic some features of neuronal dynamics. We focus on the transient response induced by the stimulus, particularly on the spike-adding behaviour of the response. Our main goal is to explain how the transient response is affected by the presence of unstable equilibria. We also investigate the dependence of the number of spikes on the amplitude and duration of the stimulus. In our analysis, we use numerical continuation methods and exploit the presence of different time scales in the model.  相似文献

It has been speculated that the application of nanofluids in real systems could lead to smaller, more compact heat exchangers and reductions in material cost. However, few studies have been conducted which have carefully measured the thermo-physical properties and thermal performance of these fluids as well as examine the system-level effects of using these fluids in traditional cooling systems. In this study, dilute suspensions of 10 nm aluminum oxide nanoparticles in propanol (0.5, 1, and 3 wt%) were investigated. Changes in density, specific heat, and thermal conductivity with particle concentration were measured and found to be linear, whereas changes in viscosity were nonlinear and increased sharply with particle loading. Nanofluid heat transfer performance data were generally commensurate with that measured for the baseline. For the 1 wt% concentration, a small but significant enhancement in the heat transfer coefficient was recorded for 1800 < Re < 2800, which is attributed to an earlier transition to turbulent flow. In the case of high particle loading (i.e. 3 wt%), the thermal performance was observed to deteriorate with respect to the baseline case. Discoloration of the fluid was also observed after being cycled at high flow rates and increased temperature.  相似文献
