The aim of the present study was to investigate and compare the mechanical properties of untreated and chemically modified Borassus fiber–reinforced epoxy composites. Composites were prepared by the hand lay-up process by reinforcing Borassus fibers with epoxy matrix. To improve the fiber-matrix adhesion properties, alkali (NaOH) and alkali combined with silane (3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane) treatment of the fiber surface was carried out. Examinations through Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were conducted to investigate the structural and physical properties of the Borassus fibers. Tensile properties such as modulus and strength of the composites made with chemically modified and untreated Borassus fibers were studied using a universal testing machine. Based on the experimental results, it was found that the tensile properties of the Borassus-reinforced epoxy composites were significantly improved as compared with the neat epoxy. It was also found that the fiber treated with a combination of alkali and silane exhibited superior mechanical properties to alkali-treated and untreated fiber composites. The nature of the fiber/matrix interface was examined through SEM of cryo-fractured samples. Chemical resistance of composites was also found to be improved with chemically modified fiber composites. 相似文献

The design of turn-on dyes with optical signals sensitive to the formation of supramolecular structures provides fascinating and underexplored opportunities for G-quadruplex (G4) DNA detection and characterization. Here, we show a new switching mechanism that relies on the recognition-driven disaggregation (on-signal) of an ultrabright coumarin-quinazoline conjugate. The synthesized probe selectively lights-up parallel G4 DNA structures via the disassembly of its supramolecular state, demonstrating outputs that are easily integrable into a label-free molecular logic system. The complex flow features inside hard disk drive models are investigated in an axisymmetric and a semi-open shroud configurations. For the axisymmetric case, we have employed both experimental and computational approaches. The experiment focuses on both flow dynamics and the disk vibration, where measurements of the fluctuating pressure and velocity are undertaken at some representative points. The correlation between the disk vibration and the fluctuating pressure in the turbulent flow between disks is evident from the spectral analysis. The experimentally observed fluctuating pressure and velocity are partly due to the disk vibration and its contribution could be estimated by comparing the experiment with the results of a large eddy simulation. For the semi-open shroud case, although the characteristic peaks attributable to the large-scale vortical structure are still observed in the power spectra, the pressure fluctuation and the disk vibration are suppressed when the arm is inserted. 相似文献

The method to estimate the dynamic load of a flapping wing by the integration of pressure on the wing’s surface is discussed.
The flapping wing was modeled as a plate flapping sinusoidally in hovering condition. The flow around the flapping plate was
measured using stereo PIV on multiple measurement planes along the out-of-plane direction. The phase-averaged velocity field
of each measurement plane was calculated so that three-dimensional analyses could be applied. The phase-averaged pressure
field was obtained from the integration of the three-dimensional Poisson equation for pressure using the available information
acquired from stereo PIV measurements. The pressure field is visualized on the measurement planes. In this study, the estimated
load was the torque of the axis of rotation. This torque was compared with the result from strain gauge measurements. The
torque estimation, although only on a partial surface of the plate, is within reasonable agreement with the measured torque.
The integration of the Poisson equation based on stereo PIV measurements and estimations of the torque shows that an increase
in the torque at the start of a flapping stroke is caused by the stagnation on the surface of the plate from the flow that

This paper presents multispectral image coding methods based on visible component separation techniques. By coding the visible
components separately from other spectral components, the color information can be used without decoding the whole multispectral
image. Two types of separation techniques are introduced: one is a direct separation of visible and invisible layers, while
the other is a scalable separation. In the scalable separation, visible components are first compressed to produce the base
layer bitstream. The enhancement layer data include not only invisible components but also the information on the distortion
of the coded visible components. Such a separation technique improves the accuracy of decoded multispectral images especially
when visible components are highly compressed. The performance of the proposed methods was evaluated for different bit allocations
to visible components. In general, the coding performance reduces when data are divided and coded separately to incorporate
scalabilities. Nonetheless, it is found that the proposed scalable approach realizes a peak signal-to-noise ratio PSNR value

Simultaneous measurement of fluctuating velocity and pressure by a static-pressure probe and a hot-wire probe was performed in the near wake of a circular cylinder, in order to strengthen reliability of the measurement technique. Effect of geometry of the static-pressure probe was systematically investigated, and validity of the measurement results was addressed by quantitative comparison with reference data by a large-eddy simulation. Interference between the probes was found to mainly depend on the diameter of the pressure probe and only weakly on the length. A certain time lag between the velocity and pressure signals was detected in the experiment, and the measurement results of velocity–pressure correlation $\overline{up}$ and $\overline{vp}$ obtained with the correction of the time lag were in good agreement with the computational results. Net absorptive CIDEP generation has been demonstrated on singlet molecular oxygen and 4-oxo-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxyl (OTEMPO) radical system in benzene. CIDEP generation was reasonably explained in terms of the radical-triplet pair mechanism of triplet molecular oxygen-OTEMPO pair with doublet precursor. Several excited molecule-OTEMPO systems have been investigated if this CIDEP generation contributes to their CIDEP spectra. Surprisingly strong CIDEP was produced even in the presence of trace amount of dissolved oxygen, which suggests the importance of complete degassing for CIDEP studies in general systems. 相似文献
