We report a technique that is capable of making simultaneous two-point time-series measurements of minor-species concentrations in turbulent flames. The experimental setup, which incorporates picosecond time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence, has a spatial resolution of less than 250 microm and a temporal resolution of less than 100 micros, which spatially and temporally resolve microscales in many turbulent flows. Two-point time-series data are given for a standard turbulent nonpremixed flame at Re= 10,000, including a discussion of potential implications.  相似文献

We describe three mechanisms for the anomalous voltage reversals which are occasionally observed during four contact current-voltage measurements on the high temperature superconductors. Voltage reversals have been frequently observed for whiskers of the bismuth strontium calcium copper oxide (BSSCO) compounds, and we describe measurements made on high quality whiskers of the 2:2:1:2 and 2:2:2:3 phases. A simple model based on extreme anisotropy plus offset contacts can explain the gross features of four contact measurements in the ohmic flux-flow regime, but not the wealth of reversal phenomena found for the IVVI configuration in the lower temperature irreversibility region.  相似文献

The recent LHC indications of a SM-like Higgs boson near 125 GeV are consistent not only with the Standard Model (SM) but also with Supersymmetry (SUSY). However naturalness arguments disfavour the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We consider the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) with a SM-like Higgs boson near 125 GeV involving relatively light stops and gluinos below 1 TeV in order to satisfy naturalness requirements. We are careful to ensure that the chosen values of couplings do not become non-perturbative below the grand unification (GUT) scale, although we also examine how these limits may be extended by the addition of extra matter to the NMSSM at the two-loop level. We then propose four sets of benchmark points corresponding to the SM-like Higgs boson being the lightest or the second lightest Higgs state in the NMSSM or the NMSSM-with-extra-matter. With the aid of these benchmark points we discuss how the NMSSM Higgs boson near 125 GeV may be distinguished from the SM Higgs boson in future LHC searches.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the analysis of a finite element method for nonhomogeneous second order elliptic interface problems on smooth domains. The method consists in approximating the domains by polygonal domains, transferring the boundary data in a natural way, and then applying a finite element method to the perturbed problem on the approximate polygonal domains. It is shown that the error in the finite element approximation is of optimal order for linear elements on a quasiuniform triangulation. As such the method is robust in the regularity of the data in the original problem.  相似文献

In the past decade Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) has emerged as a powerful technique for the analysis of artistic, historical and archaeological material culture. However, the identification of organic compounds in complex samples using SERS can be challenging owing to the complexity in optimizing the adsorption of target analytes onto the plasmonic substrate and the difficulty to identify proper areas on the sample for robust SERS analysis using optical systems. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) interfaced with Raman spectromicroscopy (μRS) provides an ideal hyphenated system to overcome the last challenge by: (1) evaluating the nanoparticles coverage/distribution on the sample and (2) locating suitable areas for successful and reproducible SERS analysis. In this paper we demonstrate the potential of a system interfacing SEM and μRS for single fiber, extractionless analysis in the characterization of dyes from reference collections and archaeological textiles. The processes limiting the rate of response of highly diffractive, reorientationally enhanced photorefractive polymer composite materials are identified from a series of degenerate four wave mixing and Mach–Zehnder interferometric measurements. In the regime of low intensity writing beams charge generation limits the rate of holographic grating formation, but at higher intensities charge transport or reorientation of dye molecules can restrict the rate of grating formation more strongly. A grating risetime of 540 ms is observed in a composite of high dye content with high reorientational mobility of the dye molecules. In this case it is proposed that the charge carrier mobility of the doped poly(N-vinylcarbazole):2,4,7-trinitro-9-fluorenone (PVK:TNF) matrix is the principal limiting factor in grating response rates.  相似文献

Using the random cluster expansion, correlations of the Potts model on a graph can be expressed as sums over partitions of the vertices where the spins are fixed. For a planar graph, only certain partitions can occur in these sums. For example, when all fixed spins lie on the boundary of one face, only noncrossing partitions contribute. In this paper we examine the partitions which occur when fixed spins lie on the boundaries of two disjoint faces. We call these the annular partitions, and we establish some of their basic properties. In particular we demonstrate a partial duality for these partitions, and show some implications for correlations of the Potts model.  相似文献
