The influence of crystallinity and stereoregularity on the infrared (IR) spectrum of atactic PVC in the solid state has been studied by many researchers [1-12]. Although the molecules in commercial PVC consist of both syndiotactic and isotactic sequences, the bulk polymer is not highly stereoregular, having approximately 50% syndiotacticity. Its infrared spectrum is different from that of highly syndiotactic PVC [3,5,7,9,10-12], particularly in the carbon-to-chlorine stretching region where there are three bands located at 610(615), 635, and 690 cm?1. These three bands are known to be of complex origin, since each band consists of more than one absorption frequency and its relative intensity depends on the physical state or history of the specimen [3,5,7,9,10-12]. The spectrum in this region is most rigorously interpreted in terms of chain conformational structure, the spatial arrangement of the atoms around the C-C1 bond. Thus, while changes in absorbance intensities for the bands with history do not necessarily reflect changes in crystallinity, their history dependence renders these bands potentially useful as crystallinity indicators.  相似文献

We have studied the interaction of low-energy (5–50 eV) electrons with nanoscale (10 ML) ice films by probing the yields and quantum-state distributions of the neutral dissociation products using laser resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization spectroscopy. In particular, we have observed the electron-stimulated desorption (ESD) of D (2S), O (3P2) and O (1D2) from amorphous D2O films. These products are observed at threshold energies (relative to the vacuum level) between 6.5–7 eV and desorb with low kinetic energies (60–85 meV) which are independent of the incident electron energy. We associate the ESD of atomic fragments from ice with dissociation of Frenkel-type excitons of 4a1 character which are near the bottom of the ice conduction band. These excitons are created either directly or via electron-ion recombination. Changing the surface temperature from 88 to 145 K results in an increase in the thermal component of the time-of-flight (kinetic energy) distributions and an overall increase in the neutral fragment yield. We suggest that the change in neutral yield with substrate temperature results from a combination of: (1) increased electron-ion recombination; (2) exciton transport to the near-surface region; and (3) dissociation followed by inelastic scattering and desorption.  相似文献

The stability of an encapsulated bubble filled with gas is studied where gas is allowed to diffuse out of the bubble. A mechanistic model that takes into account shell stiffness and surface tension is considered. A critical shell radius for loss of mechanical stability is derived based on a technique adapted for small radius, where surface tension effects become substantial. A new parameter is defined that determines the relative importance of surface tension forces and shell stiffness for shell stability. The developed technique allows to predict, for a given bubble population and gas saturation level of the surrounding liquid, a range of bubble sizes which may collapse in time. Surface tension effects are dominant in determining the critical radius but have a negligible effect on the minimal radius for collapse. The influence of the surface tension on the stability of the shell is illustrated for Optison, a typical ultrasound contrast agent.  相似文献

We show that a frequency-resolved optical gating device using (1) a thick nonlinear crystal to replace the usual thin crystal and spectrometer and (2) a Fresnel biprism to replace the beam splitter and delay line yields a remarkably simple single-shot ultrashort-pulse intensity-and-phase measurement device with no sensitive alignment parameters and significantly greater sensitivity.  相似文献

The highly enantioselective protonation of nitronates formed upon the addition of α-substituted Meldrum's acids to terminally unsubstituted nitroalkenes is described. This work represents the first enantioselective catalytic addition of any type of nucleophile to this class of nitroalkenes. Moreover, for the successful implementation of this method, a new type of N-sulfinyl urea catalyst with chirality residing only at the sulfinyl group was developed, thereby enabling the incorporation of a diverse range of achiral diamine motifs. Finally, the Meldrum's acid addition products were readily converted to pharmaceutically relevant 3,5-disubstituted pyrrolidinones in high yield.  相似文献

This work explores the opportunity to substantially reduce the cost of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalysts by supporting monolayer (ML) amounts of precious metals on transition metal carbide substrates. The metal component includes platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd), and gold (Au); the low-cost carbide substrate includes tungsten carbides (WC and W(2)C) and molybdenum carbide (Mo(2)C). As a platform for these studies, single-phase carbide thin films with well-characterized surfaces have been synthesized, allowing for a direct comparison of the intrinsic HER activity of bare and Pt-modified carbide surfaces. It is found that WC and W(2)C are both excellent cathode support materials for ML Pt, exhibiting HER activities that are comparable to bulk Pt while displaying stable HER activity during chronopotentiometric HER measurements. The findings of excellent stability and HER activity of the ML Pt-WC and Pt-W(2)C surfaces may be explained by the similar bulk electronic properties of tungsten carbides to Pt, as is supported by density functional theory calculations. These results are further extended to other metal overlayers (Pd and Au) and supports (Mo(2)C), which demonstrate that the metal ML-supported transition metal carbide surfaces exhibit HER activity that is consistent with the well-known volcano relationship between activity and hydrogen binding energy. This work highlights the potential of using carbide materials to reduce the costs of hydrogen production from water electrolysis by serving as stable, low-cost supports for ML amounts of precious metals.  相似文献
