We have studied initial growth of Sn atoms on Ge(0 0 1) surfaces at room temperature and 80 K by scanning tunneling microscopy. For Sn deposition onto the Ge(0 0 1) substrate at room temperature, the Sn atoms form two kinds of one-dimensional structures composed of ad-dimers with different alignment, in the 〈3 1 0〉 and the 〈1 1 0〉 directions, and epitaxial structures. For Sn deposition onto the substrate at 80 K, the population of the dimer chains aligning in the 〈3 1 0〉 direction increases. The diffusion barrier of the Sn adatom on the substrate kinetically determines the population of the dimer chain. We propose that the diffusion barrier height depends on surface strain induced by the adatom. The two kinds of dimer chains appearing on the Ge(0 0 1) and Si(0 0 1) surfaces with adatoms of the group-IV elements are systematically interpreted in terms of the surface strain.  相似文献

Crude extracts from larvae, pupae and adults of cabbage white butterflies, Pieris rapae and Pieris brassicae, and green-veined butterfly, Pieris napi, have an ability to induce apoptosis in the human cancer cell lines. As apoptosis inducing protein, pierisin-1 and -2 have been isolated from pupae of P. rapae and P. brassicae, respectively, and shown to exhibit DNA ADP-ribosylating activity. Although the highest activity was detected in the late phase of larvae and early phase of pupae, certain activity was found in adult butterflies. In order to investigate distribution of substances having pierisin-like activities in butterflies, many species need to be analyzed. However, fresh samples of larvae and pupae are hard to obtain, especially if samples are of scarce species or from overseas. The usage of adult butterflies is practical to examine the distribution of pierisin-like activity in many species. In this study, we examined the cytotoxicity of crude extracts from adults of P. rapae against HeLa cells and DNA ADP-ribosylation ability during storage for 1, 2 and 8 weeks at room temperature after killing adult butterflies after eclosion. Body weights decreased to 18% for 8 weeks through dehydration. Cytotoxicity of samples from butterfly kept for 1, 2 and 8 weeks decreased to 47, 39 and 22%, respectively, of the control value. DNA ADP-ribosylating activity of the samples also decreased to 30, 27 and 23%. Similar reduction was observed on western blot analysis with anti-pierisin-1 antibody. Fortunately, these results suggest that cytotoxic and DNA ADP-ribosylating activity persists to some extent in the body after killing, at least for 8 weeks. Thus, butterfly adult samples kept for two months at room temperature can still be useful for examination of the presence of substance having pierisin-like activity.  相似文献

The potential of the electrospray technique in analyzing the structure of nonspherical colloidal particles that are below 100 nm in volume-equivalent diameter was demonstrated by online size measurement using a differential mobility analyzer (DMA) with a condensation nucleus counter (CNC) system. The measured mobility of gold nanorods was confirmed by electron microscope images and the theoretical calculation of particle mobility using the dynamic shape factor and slip correction factor. To evaluate the mobility, rod particles were modeled as both a cylinder and a prolate spheroid. This study also showed that the organic surfactant coated on rod particles might be removed and that the rod particles became spherical upon the elevation of the ambient temperature during the gas-phase dispersion of colloidal nanoparticles. Moreover, the thickness of the surfactants coated on rod particles was estimated by comparing the theoretically and experimentally obtained mobilities.  相似文献

Sawtooth oscillations have been observed in current-carrying helical plasmas by using electron-cyclotron-emission diagnostics in the Large Helical Device. The plasma current, which is driven by neutral beam injection, reduces the beta threshold of the sawtooth oscillation. When the central q value is increased due to the plasma current, the core region crashes, and, when it is decreased, the edge region crashes annularly. Observed rapid mixture of the plasma in the limited region suggests that these sawtooth crashes are reconnection phenomena. Unlike previous experiments, no precursor oscillation has been observed.  相似文献

Decomposition products of polymers have been determined by many investigators, but the results are often conflicting because of difficulties in analyzing a large number of products. A comprehensive analysis of the volatile thermal decomposition products of high-density polyethylene has been made with the latest techniques in gas chromatography. The formation of products is explained on the basis of free-radical mechanism. The predominant process in the formation of volatiles appears to be intramolecular transfer of radicals, in which isomerization by a coiling mechanism plays an important role in determining the relative quantities of each product.  相似文献

The differences of the binding energy of the Ti 2P32 electrons obtained by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy in various perovskite type titanates and related compounds have been studied. The titanium compounds studied were titanium dioxide (anatase and rutile), calcium titanate, strontium titanate, lead titanate and barium titanate. The oxidation number of the titanium ion for all of these compounds is formally 4+. However, the X-ray photoelectron spectra show small shifts in the Ti 2p32 binding energy as the cation is varied. An analysis of data led to the conclusion that this shift is mainly due to differences in polarization energy between these compounds.  相似文献

In the Large Helical Device plasma discharges, the size of an externally imposed island with mode number ( n/m = 1/1) decreases substantially when the plasma is collisionless ( nu(*)< approximately 1) and the beta is finite ( > approximately 0.1%) at the island location. For the collisional plasmas with finite beta, on the other hand, the size of the island increases. However, there is a threshold in terms of the vacuum island size below which the island enlargement is not seen.  相似文献
