Activation Analysis Methods and Applications

Summary INAA was applied for searching more effective biosorbents for U and Ag among 9 and 47 strains of actinomyces, respectively. Biomasses of strains were tested for the Ag and U sorption capacity from model solution, containing 50 mg/l Ag ions and from technological solution of U-production, containing 7.11 mg/l U ions. The U and Ag samples were irradiated for 5 hours and 20 hours, respectively, at a neutron flux density of 5.3 ^. 10¹³ n ^. cm^-2 ^. s^-1. The Ag content was calculated from the gamma-line of radionuclide ^110mAg (T_1/2 = 250.4d, E_γ= 657.7keV). The U content was calculated from the gamma-lines (228.2 keV, 277.8 keV) of radionuclide ²³⁹Np (T_1/2 = 2.35 d). The error of U and Ag determination (relative standard deviation) was 2-3%.

Tensor analysis and curvature in quantum space-time

Introducing quantum space-time into physics by means of the transformation language of noncommuting coordinates gives a simple scheme of generalizing the tensor analysis. The general covariance principle for the quantum space-time case is discussed, within which one can obtain the covariant structure of basic tensor quantities and the motion equation for a particle in a gravitational field. Definitions of covariant derivatives and curvature are also generalized in the given case. It turns out that the covariant structure of the Riemann-Christoffel curvature tensor is not preserved in quantum space-time. However, if the curvature tensor _v (z) is redetermined up to the value of theL ² term, then its covariant structure is achieved, and it, in turn, allows us to reconstruct the Einstein equation in quantum space-time.     

Phosphorus-containing podands 7. Complexing properties of ortho-diphenylphosphinyl-substituted diphenyl ethers of oligoethylene glycols with respect to alkali-metal cations

Stability constants of complexes of alkali-metal cations with oligoethylene glycol diethers RO(CH₂CH₂O)_nR (n=1–5), where R=2-Ph₂P(O)C₆H₄ and 2-Ph₂(O)-4-t-BuC₆H₃P, have been determined conductometrically in a tetrahydrofuran-chloroform mixture (41 by volume). The dependence of complexing ability on a number of monopodand donor centers for Li⁺ and Na⁺ has multiple extrema. For K⁺, Rb⁺, and Cs⁺ the complexing abilities steadily increase with the length of the ligand polyether chain. Monopodands based on triethylene glycol and its pyrocatechol analog are highly effective (log K=6.7–7.0) with respect to Li⁺. The synthesis of ligands with a lipophilic tert-butyl substituent in the terminal group is described.For previous communication, see [1]. Selective suppression of some radical reactions by iron pentacarbonyl

Conclusions On the example of the homolytic reaction of methallyl chloride with CCl₄ it was found that iron pentacarbonyl in catalytic amounts can selectively suppress the radical process involving chlorine atoms, and at the same time it catalyzes the chain reaction with trichloromethyl radicals, which act as carriers of the kinetic chain.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 10, pp. 2320–2322, October, 1972.     

Alkylation of anionoid intermediates in the reaction of benzofuran with lithium in hexametapol

It is shown that the principal pathway in the reaction of benzofuran with a solution of lithium in hexametapol is opening of the furan ring of benzofuran to give a dilithium derivative. Mono- and dialkylation products are formed when the reaction mixture is treated with alkylating agents. Alkaline hydrolysis of the natural lignin of cottonplant stems in the presence of anthraquinone

The study of a three-stage alkaline hydrolysis of the natural lignin of cottonplant stems has shown that the bulk of the lignin undergoes fragmentation during stage I. Synthesis of N-substituted 2-benzoxalones

3-Acetylaminomethyl-2-benzoxazolones are obtained by Beckmann rearrangement of the anti-oximes of 3-acetonyl-2-benzoxazolones. Reaction of styrene with sulfur and triiron dodecacarbonyl and the molecular structure of the complex Fe2(CO)6(SCH2S)

Reaction of excess styrene with Fe₃(CO)₁₂ and sulfur (60°C, 15 h, Ar, S/Fe₃(CO)₁₂ 0.6 g-atom/mole) gave Fe₂(CO)₆S₂, Fe₃(CO)₉S₂, Fe₂(CO)₆(S₂CO), Fe₂(CO)₆S₂(PhCHCH₂), PhCHCH₂S₄, and a novel binuclear complex Fe₂(CO)₆(S₂CH₂S), whose structure was analyzed by x-ray crystallography. The crystals are monoclinic, a=7.764(3), b=13.205(4), c=6.628(6) Å, =98.97(3)°. V=671.2(7) ų, Z=2, space group P2₁/m. Choline esters of alkylenebisphosphonic acids

The reaction of the acid chlorides of alkylenebisphosphonic acids with ethylene glycol and ethylene chlorohydrin gave ethylene glycol and -chloroethyl esters of alkylenebisphosphonic acids.
