DSPMP: Discriminating secretory proteins of malaria parasite by hybridizing different descriptors of Chou's pseudo amino acid patterns

Identification of the proteins secreted by the malaria parasite is important for developing effective drugs and vaccines against infection. Therefore, we developed an improved predictor called “DSPMP” (Discriminating Secretory Proteins of Malaria Parasite) to identify the secretory proteins of the malaria parasite by integrating several vector features using support vector machine‐based methods. DSPMP achieved an overall predictive accuracy of 98.61%, which is superior to that of the existing predictors in this field. We show that our method is capable of identifying the secretory proteins of the malaria parasite and found that the amino acid composition for buried and exposed sequences, denoted by AAC(b/e), was the most important feature for constructing the predictor. This article not only introduces a novel method for detecting the important features of sample proteins related to the malaria parasite but also provides a useful tool for tackling general protein‐related problems. Bromine/para‐Toluenesulfonic Acid‐Catalyzed Synthesis of 3,3‐Bis(indole‐3‐yl)indoline‐2‐ (1H)‐ones by Condensing Indoles with Isatins

Under the catalysis of only 3 mol% of Br₂ at room temperature, indoles reacted rapidly with isatins to form biologically important 3,3‐bis(indole‐3‐yl)indoline‐2‐(1H)‐ones with high efficiency and wide substrate scope. Moreover, we demonstrated that p‐toluenesulfonic acid (TsOH) could serve as a surrogate to catalyze this transformation.     

Composition dependence of the refractive index and its photo-induced variation in the binary glass systems: Ge1−xSex and As1−xSex

The composition dependence of the refractive index and its photo-induced variation have been calculated for the Ge_1?xSe_x and As_1?xSe_x binary glass systems, using the random network model. It is found that the refractive index has a minimum in Ge_1?xSe_x at x = 0.8, while it shows a monotomic increase with increasing As content in As_1?xSe_x glasses. The refractive index of the Ge_1?xSe_x system decreases with illumination and the variation Δn of GeSe₂ is ?0.0316, while the refractive index of the As_1?xSe_x system increases with illumination and the variation of As₂Se₃ is 0.01. These results are in agreement with the experimental results reported by several workers.     

An Acidic Polysaccharide from Tribulus terrestris

An aqueous acidic polysaccharide, named rhamnogalacturonan (designated as TIP-D2) was isolated from Tribulus terrestris L by means of DEAE-cellulose chromatography and gel filtration. The molecular mass of TTP-D2 was estimated to be 26 KDa by gel filtration.TTP-D2 is composed of galacturonic acid, rhamnose, arabinose, galactose,fucose,mannose,xylose and glucose in a ratio of 71.4:13.5:5.6:4.9:3.1:1.9:1.9:1.0. The main chain structure of TTP-D2 was elucidated as an acidic hetero-polysaccaride with the connection of α-(1-4) galacturonic acid with α-（1-3) rhamnose by GC analysis of partially hydrolyzed products and determination of ^1H,^13C-NMR spectra.     

Characteristic cycles of perverse sheaves and Milnor fibers

We show that the Milnor monodromy and the Milnor numbers naturally appear in the characteristic cycles of irreducible perverse sheaves having the singularities of a complex hypersurface. An improved method for the preparations of nanostructured lipid carriers containing heat-sensitive bioactives

Heat-sensitive bioactive compounds such as β-carotene and tocols, are widely used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic fields. Their chemical stability in delivery systems is one of the major concerns in the production of nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs). A previously established high-temperature high-pressure homogenisation technique involved in the preparation of NLCs can cause degradation of heat-sensitive compounds. Therefore, a novel preparation process needs to be developed to minimise the degradation of heat-sensitive active compounds during the preparation of NLCs. In this work, modified methods A and B were designed to minimise the degradation of β-carotene and tocols during the production of NLCs. These methods improved the chemical stability of heat-sensitive bioactive compounds (β-carotene and tocols) significantly compared to the previously established method. The physical stability of the formulation was maintained throughout study duration.     

Luminescent core–shell Fe3O4@Gd2O3:Er3+, Li+ composite particles with enhanced optical properties

Bifunctional magneto-optical nanocomposites with Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles as a core and erbium and lithium codoped gadolinium (Gd₂O₃:Er³⁺, Li⁺) as the shell were synthesized successfully using a simple urea homogeneous precipitation method. The fabricated Fe₃O₄@Gd₂O₃:Er³⁺, Li⁺ particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy and quantum design vibrating sample magnetometry. The upconversion emission intensity was enhanced significantly comparing to that without Li⁺ ions. These bifunctional composites are expected to be potentially applied for drug delivery, cell separation and bioimaging.
