The splitting and the lineshape of the satellite transitions of 23Na are measures of the residual quadrupolar interaction and its distribution, which are related to the degrees of order and binding of sodium in biological tissues. However, these transitions are often masked by the stronger signals of the central transition and the isotropic sodium ions. A way to suppress the central signals, while preserving the lineshape and the intensity of the satellites, is suggested and tested on a liquid crystal and on bovine articular cartilage.  相似文献

We experimentally observe polarization-locked vector solitons in optical fiber. Polarization locked-vector solitons use nonlinearity to preserve their polarization state despite the presence of birefringence. To achieve conditions where the delicate balance between nonlinearity and birefringence can survive, we studied the polarization evolution of the pulses circulating in a laser constructed entirely of optical fiber. We observe two distinct states with fixed polarization. This first state occurs for very small values birefringence and is elliptically polarized. We measure the relative phase between orthogonal components along the two principal axes to be +/-pi/2. The relative amplitude varies linearly with the magnitude of the birefringence. This state is a polarization locked vector soliton. The second, linearly polarized, state occurs for larger values of birefringence. The second state is due to the fast axis instability. We provide complete characterization of these states, and present a physical explanation of both of these states and the stability of the polarization locked vector solitons. We demonstrate optical data storage in optical fibers and reconstruction by use of low-coherence spectral interferometry. The information was stored by means of writing fiber Bragg gratings with different central wavelengths at different locations of the fiber. We need only a single short pulse is needed to read all the stored data. The maximum theoretical reconstruction rate that can be obtained with our technique is 10 Tbits/s. Our storage technique can be useful for identifying users in optical communication networks.  相似文献

Given n Boolean variables x1,…,xn, a k‐clause is a disjunction of k literals, where a literal is a variable or its negation. Suppose random k‐clauses are generated one at a time and an online algorithm accepts or rejects each clause as it is generated. Our goal is to accept as many randomly generated k‐clauses as possible with the condition that it must be possible to satisfy every clause that is accepted. When cn random k‐clauses on n variables are given, a natural online algorithm known as Online‐Lazy accepts an expected (1 ? )cn + akn clauses for some constant ak. If these clauses are given offline, it is possible to do much better, (1 ? )cn + Ω( )n can be accepted whp . The question of closing the gap between ak and Ω( ) for the online version remained open. This article shows that for any k ≥ 1, any online algorithm will accept less than (1 ? )cn + (ln 2)n k‐clauses whp , closing the gap between the constant and Ω( ). The separation of fluorescent-labeled ssDNA fragments of equal length based on differences in sequence was achieved through the use of guanosine gels (G-gels) formed by guanosine-5'-monophosphate (GMP) in capillary gel electrokinetic chromatography (CGEKC) with LIF detection. Baseline resolution was achieved for homodimers and homopentamers of A, T, and C. G-gel CGEKC provided better resolution than CZE, MEKC, or a sieving gel in CGE. Resolution improved with increasing GMP, indicating that the interaction is linked to structural organization of the G-gel. Fluorescence intensity and anisotropy show that the order of interaction with G-gels is T>C>A. We then investigated four conformationally similar, polymorphic 76-mers with A/G substitutions that are utilized in forensic DNA typing. Resolution was achieved by CGEKC but not CZE or CGE. In CGEKC, the negatively charged G-gels and oligonucleotides electromigrate toward the positive inlet while being driven by EOF to the negative outlet. The net forward velocity is the greatest for oligonucleotides most closely associated with the slower, more cumbersome G-gel network. For the 76-mers, resolution increases with increasing difference in guanosine content between strands and, for a given difference, with increasing total guanosines in the strands.  相似文献

Truncation and acylation were combined to investigate the broad-spectrum bactericidal and hemolytic peptide S4(1-15). Substitution of up to seven residues with dodecanoic acid (C(12)) gradually led to specific antipseudomonal activity: out of 40 bacterial strains tested in vitro, C(12)-S4(8-15) displayed similar minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) as S4(1-15) against Pseudomonas aeruginosa sp. (identical MIC(90)) but was practically inactive against most other bacteria or erythrocytes. Surface plasmon resonance and isothermal titration calorimetry experiments revealed the binding properties of S4(1-15) to be consistent with its nonselective activities, while discriminative activities of C(12)-S4(8-15) correlated with high binding affinity to a membrane containing pseudomonal lipopolysaccharides and with lower affinities to membranes containing nonpseudomonal lipopolysaccharides or cholesterol. Various mechanistic studies failed to detect significant differences in secondary structure, bactericidal kinetics, or ability to perturb the cytoplasmic membrane, pointing to a similar mode of action.  相似文献

The dual risk model describes the capital of a company with fixed expense rate and occasional income inflows of random size, called innovations. Parisian ruin occurs once the process stays continuously below zero for a given period. We consider the dual risk model where ruin is declared either at the first time that the reserve stays continuously below zero for an exponentially distributed time, or once it reaches a given negative threshold. We obtain the Laplace transform of the time to ruin and the Laplace transform of the time period that the process is negative. Applying a duality relationship between our risk model and the queueing model, we derive quantities related to the G/M/1 busy period, idle period and cycle maximum.  相似文献

The novel di-functional magnetic nanoflowers (DMNF) which had both epoxy groups and hydrophilic catechol as well as phthaloquinone groups capable of covalently coupling of penicillin G acylase (PGA) were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope (TEM), vibrating sample magnetometer, N2 adsorption, and so on. The studies showed that DMNF possessed “hierarchical petal” structure of nanosheets had specific saturation magnetization of 39.7 emu/g and average pore diameter of 25.4 nm as well as specific surface area of 17.28 m2/g. For hydrolysis of penicillin G potassium catalyzed by the PGA immobilized on DMNF with enzyme loading of 106 mg/g-support, its apparent activity reached 2,667 U/g, which benefited from the “hierarchical petal” and large pore structure of the magnetic DMNF leading to high enzyme loading and fast diffusion of substrate molecules to the immobilized PGA to reaction. The apparent activity of the immobilized PGA could keep 2,408 U/g (above 90% of its initial activity) after repeating use for 10 cycles. The magnetic immobilized PGA exhibited excellent operational stability due to covalently coupling of the enzyme molecules between the support by covalent interaction of the amino groups of PGA and the reactive groups of epoxy, catechol, and phthaloquinone groups on DMNF. Furthermore, the PGA displayed good acid and alkaline resistance as well as thermal stability by immobilization using DMNF.  相似文献

A two-step synthetic process is reported to fabricate porous ceria membranes by anodization of cerium metal foils with subsequent calcination. "Ribbon-like" structures were found to form the backbones of these porous frameworks. The hydrophobic nature of these membranes was revealed by water contact angle measurements.  相似文献
