Technology designed to capture and store carbon dioxide (CO2) will play a significant role in the near-term reduction of CO2 emissions and is considered necessary to slow global warming. Nanoporous carbon (NPC) membranes show promise as a new generation of gas separation membranes suitable for CO2 capture. We have made supported NPC membranes from polyfurfuryl alcohol (PFA) at various pyrolysis temperatures. Positron annihilation lifetime spectrometry (PALS) and wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) results indicate that the pore size decreases whilst the porosity increases with increasing pyrolysis temperature. The membrane performance results support these findings with a significant increase in permeance being seen with increasing pyrolysis temperature, which relates to the increase in porosity.Mixed gas performance measurements also show an increase in CH4 permeance as the operating temperature is increased from 35 to 200 °C, which can be related to an increase in the rate of diffusion. However, the selectivity decreases with increasing operating temperature due to the smaller changes in the CO2 permeance. These smaller changes in CO2 permeance can be related to the stronger adsorption of this gas on the carbon surface at lower operating temperatures. Interestingly, regardless of the original pyrolysis temperature, the selectivity at higher operating temperatures is similar, whereas the permeance remains related to this pyrolysis temperature. 相似文献

Stable suspensions of small metal Au, Ru, PI, Pd, Rh, Co and Nl particles dispersed in n-heptane and n-dodecane have been prepared using a novel two-phase system, Involving the formation of the particles In a methanolic phase and subsequent phase transfer of the panicles to the alkane medium. The dispersions consisted of small particles having diameters In the range of 8-30 nm (the gold sols were very polydlsperse having average diameters of ca.34 nm). The phase transfer of the particles and their subsequent colloid stability were effected by the presence of dissolved dispersant in the hydrocarbon phase (either Oloa 1200 or Hypermer LP 8). In the case of Oloa 1200, a widely-used polylsobutylene succinimide automotive engine dispersant, It Is proposed that the amlne groups adsorb strongly to the acidic surface o1 the particles, and the 70-carbon polyisobutylene chains extend Into the hydrocarbon medium sufficiently to maintain the separation of adjacent particles by steric and possibly also by electrical repulsion. 相似文献

The effect of sonication on the pasting properties of waxy rice starch solutions (5 wt%) was investigated. It has been found that the functionality of starch granules was significantly influenced by the length of sonication and the solution temperature. A comparison of the pasting behaviour showed that the peak and final viscosities of the starch dispersions sonicated at temperatures near the onset temperature of gelatinisation were lower than those of the non-sonicated dispersions. The particle size measurements showed that the size of the heated and sonicated granules were smaller than that of the heated non-sonicated starch granules. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations showed that the starch granule surface was not affected by sonication, and the size exclusion chromatography did not show any reduction in the size of the starch molecules. Based on these observations, the change in the pasting behaviour is explained in terms of the solubilisation of the swollen starch granules and starch aggregates induced by sonication. 相似文献

Highly permeable glassy polymeric membranes based on poly (1‐trimethylsilyl‐1‐propyne) (PTMSP) and a polymer of intrinsic porosity (PIM‐1) were investigated for water sorption, water permeability and the separation of CO2 from N2 under humid mixed gas conditions. The water sorption isotherms for both materials followed behavior indicative of multilayer adsorption within the microvoids, with PIM‐1 registering a significant water uptake at very high water activities. Analysis of the sorption isotherms using a modified dual sorption model which accounts for such multilayer effects gave Langmuir affinity constants more consistent with lighter gases than the use of the standard dual mode approach. The water permeability through PTMSP and PIM‐1 was comparable over the water activities studied, and could be successfully model ed through a dual mode sorption model with a concentration dependent diffusivity. The water permeability through both membranes as a function of temperature was also measured, and found to be at a minimum at 80 ° C for PTMSP and 70 °C for PIM‐1. This temperature dependence is a function of reducing water solubility in both membranes with increasing temperature countered by increasing water diffusivity. The CO2 ‐ N2 mixed gas permeabilities through PTMSP and PIM‐1 were also measured and model ed through dual mode sorption theory. Introducing water vapour further reduced both the CO2 and N2 permeabilities. The plasticization potential of water in PTMSP was determined and indicated water swelled the membrane increasing CO2 and N2 diffusivity, while for PIM‐1 a negative potential implied that water filling of the microvoids hampered CO2 and N2 diffusion through the membrane. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. It has previously been reported that the addition of low concentrations of ionic surfactants enhances the steady-state sonoluminescence (SL) intensity relative to water (Ashokkumar; et al. J. Phys. Chem. B 1997, 101, 10845). In the current study, both sonoluminescence and passive cavitation detection (PCD) were used to examine the acoustic cavitation field generated at different acoustic pulse lengths in the presence of an anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). A decrease in the SL intensity was observed in the presence of low concentrations of SDS and short acoustic pulse lengths. Under these conditions, the inhibition of bubble coalescence by SDS leads to a population of smaller bubbles, which dissolve during the pulse "off time". As the concentration of surfactant was increased at this pulse length, an increase in the acoustic cavitation activity was observed. This increase is partly attributed to enhanced growth rate of the bubbles by rectified diffusion. Conversely, at long pulse lengths acoustic cavitation activity was enhanced at low SDS concentrations as a larger number of the smaller bubbles could survive the pulse "off time". The effect of reduced acoustic shielding and an increase in the "active" bubble population due to electrostatic repulsion between bubbles are also significant in this case. Finally, as the surfactant concentration was increased further, the effect of electrostatic induced impedance shielding or reclustering dominates, resulting in a decrease in the SL intensity. 相似文献

A study has been conducted to clarify the relationship between polymer structure, annealing temperature, and the extent of plasticization by high‐pressure CO2 for two typical polyimide membranes; BTDA‐DAPI (poly(3,3′‐4,4′‐benzophenone tetracarboxylic–dianhydride diaminophenylindane) and 6FDA‐TMPDA (poly(2,2′‐bis(3,4′‐dicasrboxyphenyl) hexafluoropropane dianhydride–2,3,5,6‐tetramethyl‐1,4‐phenylenediamine). Both membrane materials are exposed to varying levels of thermal annealing at 200 and 250 °C. The effect of this heat treatment on free volume is examined using positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS), whereas fluorescence spectroscopy is used to monitor changes in electronic structure. Results show that thermal annealing causes a reduction in both the size and number of free volume elements. A strong relationship is found between the fluorescence peak intensity for 6FDA‐TMPDA and both the membrane gas permeability and plasticization pressure. This correlation is most likely the result of the formation of charge transfer complexes, particularly at 250 °C. However, the formation of covalent crosslinks at these temperatures cannot be discounted. No fluorescence is observed for BTDI‐DAPI. Although thermal annealing has a significant effect on the extent of plasticization in both polymers, it is found that the rate of plasticization is unaffected by the annealing temperature. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Acoustic cavitation is the fundamental process responsible for the initiation of most of the sonochemical reactions in liquids. Acoustic cavitation originates from the interaction between sound waves and bubbles. In an acoustic field, bubbles can undergo growth by rectified diffusion, bubble-bubble coalescence, bubble dissolution or bubble collapse leading to the generation of primary radicals and other secondary chemical reactions. Surface active solutes have been used in association with a number of experimental techniques in order to isolate and understand these activities. A strobe technique has been used for monitoring the growth of a single bubble by rectified diffusion. Multibubble sonoluminescence has been used for monitoring the growth of the bubbles as well as coalescence between bubbles. The extent of bubble coalescence has also been monitored using a newly developed capillary technique. An overview of the various experimental results has been presented in order to highlight the complexities involved in acoustic cavitation processes, which on the other hand arise from a simple, mechanical interaction between sound waves and bubbles. 相似文献

Al-Cu-Fe thin films were prepared by laser induced arc (laser-arc) method from a single source-Al63Cu25Fe12 alloy, which was proved to consist of quasicrystalline phase together with approximant phase. The composition of the deposited films meets the requirement for formation of icosahedral symmetry phase. Quasicrystalline phase was obtained after annealing the amorphous as-deposit film samples. The optical properties of the samples were investigated. Thin film samples of Al, Cu and Fe deposited under the same condition were employed for comparison. The results showed specific reflective properties of Al-Cu-Fe quasicrystal thin film in some wavelength range. The optical conductivity of the films exhibited a negative peak, centered about 440 nm in range of 190to 800 nm. The Al-Cu-Fe quasicrystal thin films could absorb almost all the ray in the wavelength range from 420nm to 450 nm. The ratio of absorption was greater than 99%. 相似文献
