An Electron Dynamics Mechanism of Charge Separation in the Initial‐Stage Dynamics of Photoinduced Water Splitting in XMnWater (X=OH,OCaH) and Electron–Proton Acceptors

An electron dynamics mechanism of charge separation in the initial stage of excited‐state reactions of the class of X?Mn?OH₂???A${ \to }$ X?Mn?OH???HA (X=OH or OCaH; A=N‐methylformamidine, guanidine, imidazole, or ammonia cluster) is reported. The dynamic effect of calcium doping is also revealed. This study provides a novel factor to be considered in designing efficient systems for photoinduced water splitting.     

On the characterization of generalized inverses by bordered matrices

A method to characterize the class of all generalized inverses of any given matrix A is considered. Given a matrix A and a nonsingular bordered matrix T of A,

the submatrix, corresponding to A, of T^-1 is a generalized inverse of A, and conversely, any generalized inverse of A is obtainable by this method. There are different definitions of a generalized inverse, and the arguments are developed with the least restrictive definition. The characterization of the Moore-Penrose inverse, the most restrictive definition, is also considered.     

Synthesis of polyester dendrimers and dendrons starting from Michael reaction of acrylates with 3-hydroxyacetophenone

A new AB₂ type building block for synthesis of dendritic compounds is made starting from Michael addition of 2 equiv of 3-hydroxyacetophenone to acrylate, followed by decarboxylation and deprotection of either carboxyl or hydroxyl protecting groups. [G1]-[G4] dendrons and [G2] dendrimer were synthesized by the reiterative [hydrogenolysis then DCC/DPTS coupling] sequence using a combination of convergent and divergent growth methods.     

Selective cross-catenation of Pd(II) and Pt(II) coordination rings

The reversible cross-catenation of two different coordination rings (Pd(II)- and Pt(II)-linked rings) has been achieved by using the labile nature of the Pd-N interaction and efficient hydrophobic contact between the rings.     

Large‐scale SPH simulations of droplet impact onto a liquid surface up to the consequent formation of Worthington jet

In this study, the whole process of liquid droplet impact onto a liquid surface up to the consequent formation of the central column was simulated using the smoothed particle hydrodynamics method (SPH), and compared with an experiment using a high‐speed video camera. The surface tension tensor for the particle‐based expression was adequately included as the gradient of the surface tension and that enabled the simulation leading to the formations of crater and crown as well as the consequent central column. The simulated time series of the crater depth and diameter and crown height corresponded quantitatively well with the experimental result up to the rebound motion while discrepancies remained as a lower central column height in the simulation, and this seemed to be ascribed to the difficulty in realizing the complex surface structure that inevitably appeared in the fast rebound motion. N-D-labeled ionic probes for mass spectrometry

An effective ¹⁵N- and deuterium (D)-labeled 2,6-bis(oxazolin-2-yl)pyridine (pybox)-La complex based probe ionization method that produces a distinct isotopic shift was developed. The distinct isotopic shift was detected by using the newly synthesized ¹⁵N-D-labeled pybox complexes. Moreover, O-[3-(tetramethylpybox)-propyl]-hydroxylamine (oxime-TMpybox) was prepared for attachment to the carbonyl group of the target molecule. Distinct isotopic shifts and multiple charged ions were detected for various compounds having amino, thiol, carboxyl, and carbonyl groups and fullerenes, using the TMpybox ionic probe series in cold-spray ionization mass spectrometry.     

Bit-rate Flexible Picosecond Pulse Width Conversion with All-optical Mono-stable Multivibrator Laser Diode

An optical mono-stable multivibrator laser diode (MM-LD) is realized by using a multi-electrode distributed feedback laser diode. All-optical pulse-width conversion of ultra-short pulses to non-return-to-zero (NRZ) is achieved using an MM-LD. The MM-LD is adopted for a wide range of bit-rates between 2-10 Gbit/s by tuning the DC bias. Data format transformation from 10-Gbit/s return-to-zero optical signals to NRZ optical-signals is achieved with error free operation. Converted optical signals, which have a narrower spectral bandwidth and lower peak power than when input, are transmitted using a 1.3-μm zero dispersion fiber (1.3Aλ₀-SMF).
