Redox features of β-VOPO4 catalyst using tracer and laser Raman spectroscopy

The oxygen ions of the β-VOPO₄ catalyst were exchanged with an tracer by a reduction–oxidation method and by a catalytic oxidation of but-1-ene using ₂. The bands at 992 and 900 cm⁻¹ were more shifted to lower frequencies than those at 1076 and 1002 cm⁻¹. Applying the correlation between the Raman bands and stretching vibrations in the literature, the exchanged oxygen species were estimated. The results suggest that the P–O–V vacancies corresponding to 992 and 900 cm⁻¹ were responsible for reoxidation and the V=O oxygen corresponding to the 1002 cm⁻¹ band of β-VOPO₄ was not. The (VO)₂P₂O₇ was oxidized to β-VOPO₄ by O₂ above 823 K. The insertion position of oxygen was determined at the bands at 992 and 900 cm⁻¹ of β-VOPO₄ using ₂, which is the same as the exchanged position.     

A convenient synthesis of 1-bromoolefins and acetylenes by a chain extension of aldehydes

Aldehydes are easily converted to 1-bromoolefins or terminal acetylenes by the use of Wittig reaction of bromomethylenetriphenylphosphorane which is prepared from bromomethyltriphenylphosphonium bromide with potassium tert-butoxide.     

Solid-phase synthesis of liquid crystalline isoxazole library

Combinatorial library of isoxazoles was prepared by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition on solid support. p-Cyano derivatives showed nematic and/or smectic A phases. A bilayer smectic phase for 2h is proposed by the combination of molecular mechanics calculation and X-ray diffraction experiment.     

Enantioselectively catalyzed oxidation of 3,4-dihydroxy-l-phenylalanine by N-lauroyl L or D-histidine-Cu(II) complex in CTABr micelles.

In order to investigate the enzyme model reaction the oxidation of 3,4-dihydihydroxy-L-phenylalanine(L-DOPA) was carried out using optically active catalyst, N-lauroyl L or D-histidine-Cu(II) complex(L or D-LauHis-Cu(II)), showing appreciable enantioselectivity in the presence of the mixed micelles with CTABr.     

A lithiation approach to cordycepin analogues variously substituted at the C-8 position

Several 8-substituted cordycepins were prepared via LDA lithiation of 2′,5′-bis-O-(t-butyldimethylsilyl)-cordycepin and successive reactions of its C-8 lithiated species with various types of electrophiles. Wittig reaction of the 8-formyl derivative was also examined.     

Continuum mixing and coupled channel effects inc\bar c andb\bar b quarkonium

We apply the unitarized quark model to heavy \(c\bar c\) and \(b\bar b\) quarkonium and study mass shifts and mixings induced by hadronic coupled channel effects. In particular, we study the two-meson continuum mixing in the quarkonium wave functions. It is found that the continuum component is 2–20% in the \(c\bar c\) and \(b\bar b\) states, measured as the squared sum of two-meson amplitudes \((D\bar D,D\bar D^ * + cc,D^ * \bar D^ * ,F\bar F,F\bar F^ * + cc,F^ * \bar F^ * for c\bar c)\) . It is the largest for states near or above the first threshold. These continuum mixings reduce the predicted radiative widths by 5–30%. The mass shifts of theP andF wave \(q\bar q\) states are similar to those ofS andD wave states previously studied. The computed resonance mixing matrices are explicitly given, enabling future calculations of relativistic effects, QCD effects, etc., to include also the coupled channel effects.     

Comparison of PAMAM-Au and PPI-Au nanocomposites and their catalytic activity for reduction of 4-nitrophenol

Dendrimer-Au nanocomposites are prepared in aqueous solutions using poly(amidoammine)dendrimers (PAMAM) (generation 2, 3, and 5) and poly(propyleneimine)dendrimers (PPI)(generation 2, 3, and 4) by wet chemical NaBH(4) method. The Au nanoparticles thus obtained are 2-4 nm in diameter for both dendrimers and no generation dependence on the particle size is observed, whereas the generations of the dendrimers are increased as stabilization of Au-nanoparticles is achieved with lower dendrimer concentrations. Studies of the reduction reaction of 4-nitrophenol using these nanocomposites show that the rate constants for the PAMAM dendrimers (generations 2 and 3) are higher than those for the PPI dendrimers (generations 2 and 3), while a distinct difference in the rate constants is not seen for the PAMAM dendrimer (generation 5) or the PPI dendrimer (generation 4). In addition, the rate constants for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol involving all the dendrimers decrease with increases in dendrimer concentrations.     

Ring transformation of 6H-cyclopropa[e]pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine. IV (1). Reduction and reaction of 5a-acetyl-6a-ethoxycarbonyl-5a,6a-dihydro-6H-cyclopropa[e]pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-3-carbonitriles with primary amines

The reaction of 5a-acetyl-6-ethoxycarbonyl-5a,6a-dihydro-6H-cyclopropa[e]pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-3-carbonitrile ( 1a ) with benzylamine gave ethyl l-benzyl-5-cyano-8a,9-dihydro-2-methyl-1H-pyrrolo[3,4-e]-pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-8a-carboxylate ( 2a ), in addition to 5-acetyl-3-benzylamino-1-(4-cyanopyrazol-3-yl)- 2-pyridone ( 3 ). Reaction of 1a with aniline gave ethyl 6-acetyl-8-anilino-3-cyano-7,8-dihydro-4H-pyrazolo-[1,5-a][1,3]diazepine-8-carboxylate ( 4 ), in addition to ethyl 3-cyano-7-methyl-6-pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-acrylate ( 5 ). On the other hand, the same reactions of 1b with benzylamine or aniline gave 2b or 8b , respectively. Though catalytic hydrogenation of 1a over 5% palladium-carbon proceeded by ring fission of cyclopropane ring to give 9 , 1a (or 1b ) afforded 4,5-dihydro derivatives ( 13 or 15 ) by catalytic hydrogenation over platinum oxide. The reactivity of 5-methoxy-4,5,5a,6a-tetrahydro-6H-cyclopropa[e]pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine ( 16 ), which are related analogs of 1a,b , is also described.
