Solution-phase synthesis of alpha-rat atrial natriuretic peptide (alpha-rANP)

alpha-Rat atrial natriuretic peptide (alpha-rANP) was synthesized by assembling five peptide fragments in solution, followed by HF-dimethylselenide-m-cresol deprotection and subsequent air-oxidation. Synthetic alpha-rANP exhibited more potent diuretic and natriuretic activity in rats than synthetic alpha-hANP.     

Selective ring opening reactions of 3,7-diarylsulfonyl-1,3,5,7-tetrazabicyclo[3.3.1] nonaries

The selective formation of 1,3,5,7-tetrazacyelooctanes from the title compounds is described. Exclusive cleavage of the IN-CH₂-N bonds at the bridge methylene is shown to be a facile process, thus providing a convenient route to tetrazacyclooctane derivatives.     

Precipitation of magnesium ammonium phosphate from homogeneous solution by means of hydrolysis of p-nitrophenylphosphate with an alkaline phosphatase

In the precipitation of magnesium ammonium phosphate from homogeneous solution, phosphate ions were generated by means of hydrolysis of p-nitrophenylphosphate with an alkaline phosphatase. Conditions for the gravimetric determination of magnesium ion as magnesium ammonium phosphate hexahydrate were investigated.     

Structure of kukoamine A,a hypotensive principle of Lycium chinense root barks1

From the crude drug “jikoppi”, the root barks of Lycium chinense, a novel spermine alkaloid, kukoamine A, showing hypotensive activity has been isolated and the structure has been determined as that represented by formula I on the basis of chemical and physical evidence.     

Analysis of two-nucleon transfer reactions by heavy ions on the basis of one- and two-step processes

Two-nucleon transfer reactions induced by heavy ions are analyzed on the basis of the one-step (simultaneous) and two-step (successive) transfer processes. The reactions considered here are ¹²C(¹⁸O, ¹⁶O)¹⁴C, ⁴⁸Ca(¹⁸O, ¹⁶O)⁵⁰Ca and ⁴⁸Ca(¹⁶O, ¹⁴C)⁵⁰Ti. Finite-range calculations with full recoil are performed for both processes. The results of the calculations show that the two processes are of roughly equal importance and both are needed to reproduce the experimental angular distributions as well as the absolute magnitude of the cross sections. The dependence of the cross section on the choice of the structure wave functions and the relative importance of the intermediate states in the two-step process are also discussed.

The absolute structure of oleuropein was proved to be 1 through the chemical correlation of the glucoside with asperuloside of known absolute configuration. In connection with this experiment the absolute configurations of kingiside and morroniside were established as 4 and 5, respectively.
