A novel mode transformer was fabricated that transforms a modal area by a factor of 100. Using the mode transformer improves the efficiency of mode transformation by an order of magnitude compared with that when no mode transformer is used. With this mode transformer, input-output coupling of miniaturized, on-chip integrated optical circuits to external optical fibers is achieved with low loss. The mode transformer's design, fabricated in silicon, is scalable to virtually any waveguide size, facilitating continuous miniaturization in silicon optoelectronics. 相似文献

Using a 21 / 2-dimensional particle-in-cell (PIC) code to simulate the relativistic expansion of a magnetized collisionless plasma into a vacuum, we report a new mechanism in which the magnetic energy is efficiently converted into the directed kinetic energy of a small fraction of surface particles. We study this mechanism for both electron-positron and electron-ion (m(i)/m(e)=100, m(e) is the electron rest mass) plasmas. For the electron-positron case, the pairs can be accelerated to ultrarelativistic energies. For electron-ion plasmas, most of the energy gain goes to the ions. 相似文献

Pharaonis phoborhodopsin (ppR, also called Natronobacterium pharaonis sensory rhodopsin II) and its transducer protein, pharaonis halobacterial transducer of ppR (pHtrII), form a signaling complex, and light signals are transmitted from the sensor to the transducer by the protein-protein interaction. A truncated pHtrII(1-159) consisting of intramembrane helices (expressing amino acid residues from the first to the 159th position) and ppR form the complex in a solution containing 0.1% n-dodecyl-beta-D-maltoside. At 75-85 degrees C, the time-dependent color loss of ppR was caused by denaturation. We found that pHtrII(1-159) retarded the denaturation rate of ppR. This increase in the thermal stability was used as a probe for the binding ability in the dark. Tyr199 of ppR and Asn74 of pHtrII(1-114) were proposed as amino acid residues interacting with each other through hydrogen bonding. Then,ppR and pHtrII(1-159) mutants at these positions were prepared to examine the effect on the binding in the dark. The wild-type and Y199F mutant can bind pHtrII(1-159), suggesting that the hydrogen bonding between these specific amino acid residues may not be the only cause of the binding, but the hydrophobic interaction via phenyl ring of ppR may contribute dominantly. 相似文献

The octahedral and tetrahedral coordination shifts of Mg and Al Kα were systematically measured using a high resolution spectrometer. To explain these shifts, we applied SCC-DV-Xα molecular orbital calculation to several cluster models. The results of the calculations agreed well with the observed shifts. A method based on microfluidic technology was developed to support quantitative analysis of recombinant monoclonal immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4) antibody samples. The assay was performed on an Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer in combination with the Protein 200 Plus LabChip Kit and the Protein 200 Plus assay software. Capillary electrophoresis principles have been transferred to a chip format that integrates all separation, staining, virtual destaining, and detection steps. The method is referred to in this paper as chip-based capillary gel electrophoresis (GelChip-CE method). The GelChip-CE method under nonreducing conditions proved to be a quantitative test for half-antibody determination in IgG4 samples. Similar to the traditional nonreducing sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) method, the GelChip-CE method includes a denaturing step prior to separation. We showed that denaturing the sample by heating resulted in an artificial increase in the amount of half-antibody detected, which could be prevented by addition of N-ethylmaleimide to the sample buffer. The GelChip-CE method allowed for analysis of IgG4 samples with more accuracy, higher precision, and a faster turnaround time than SDS-PAGE and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). 相似文献

The microwave power saturation behaviour of alkyl radicals in polyethylene irradiated at 1.5, 4.2 and 77 K suggests that the local concentrations of radicals in spurs is considerably higher in the samples irradiated at 1.5 and 4.2 K. Upon annealing the samples at 77 K, the local concentrations became nearly the same as those of the sample irradiated at 77 K. The decrease of the local concentrations at 77 K was larger than that of the total concentrations suggesting an expansion of the initial spur at 77 K. 相似文献

To reduce the content of linoleoyl moiety in soybean oil, soybean oil that contains 53.0% linoleoyl moiety as molar acyl moiety composition was interesterified with an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) concentrate (24.0 mol% eicosapentaenoic acid [EPA], 40.4 mol% docosahexaenoic acid [DHA]) prepared from sardine oil, using an immobilized sn-1,3-specific lipase from Rhizomucor miehei (Lipozyme IM). The reaction was carried out in a batch reactor at 37 degrees C under the following conditions: 500 micromol of soybean oil, molar ratio of omega-3 PUFA concentrate to soybean oil = 1.0-6.0,5.0 mL of heptane, and 30 batch interesterification units of enzyme. After the reaction time of 72 h, modified soybean oil, which contains 34.9% linoleoyl, 10.1% eicosapentaenoyl, and 14.2% docosahexaenoyl moieties, was produced at the molar reactant ratio of 6.0. In this oil, the total omega-3 acyl moiety composition reached 34.1%; the molar ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 acyl moieties was enhanced by five times compared with soybean oil. In this study matrices were prepared from particles of poorly water-soluble drugs such as acetaminophen (Act) to determine the drug release rate from these matrix particles. The matrix particles were prepared by incorporating drugs into chitosan powder (Cht, carrier) using a spray-drying method. The formation of composite particles was confirmed by scanning electron microscopic (SEM) analysis. The matrix particles prepared by spray-drying were spherical with a smooth surface. The crystallinity of acetaminophen in the composite particles was evaluated by powder X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The degree of crystallinity of acetaminophen in the matrix particles decreased with a reduction in the weight ratio of acetaminophen relative to the carrier. These results indicate that a solid dispersion of acetaminophen in chitosan forms matrix particles. The interaction between acetaminophen and chitosan was also investigated by FT-IR analysis. FT-IR spectroscopy of the acetaminophen solid dispersion suggested that the carbonyl group of acetaminophen and the amino group of chitosan formed a hydrogen bond. There were some differences at pH levels of 1.2 and 6.8 in the release of acetaminophen from the physical mixture compared to the matrix particles. At pH 1.2, the release from the matrix particles (Act : Cht=1 : 5) was more sustained than from the physical mixtures. The 70% release time, T70, of acetaminophen from the matrix particles (Act : Cht=1 : 5) increased in pH 1.2 fluid by about 9-fold and in pH 6.8 fluid by about 5-fold compared to crystalline acetaminophen. These results suggest that matrix particles prepared by spray-drying are useful as a sustained release preparation. 相似文献
