The cationic polymerization of 2‐[4‐(methoxycarbonyl)phenoxy] ethyl vinyl ether, a vinyl ether with a benzoate pendant, was carried out with an HCl/ZnCl2 initiating system in methylene chloride at −15 °C. The polymerization proceeded with living/long‐lived propagating species to produce polymers with controlled molecular weights and relatively narrow molecular weight distributions (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight ≤ ∼1.4), despite the formation of a small amount of oligomeric products during the polymerization. The structural analysis showed that the lowest molecular weight oligomer had the structure CH3CH(OCH2CH2OC6H4COOCH3)OCH2CH2OC6H4COOCH3. The oligomer was formed by the reaction of the monomeric propagating species with the alcohol produced by the side reaction of the active species with water as an impurity during the early stage of polymerization. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Ultrafast excited state dynamics of spirilloxanthin in solution and bound to the light-harvesting core antenna complexes from Rhodospirillum rubrum S1 were investigated by means of femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopic measurements. The previously proposed S? state of spirilloxanthin was clearly observed both in solution and bound to the light-harvesting core antenna complexes, while the lowest triplet excited state appeared only with spirilloxanthin bound to the protein complexes. Ultrafast formation of triplet spirilloxanthin bound to the protein complexes was observed upon excitation of either spirilloxanthin or bacteriochlorophyll-a. The anomalous reaction of the ultrafast triplet formation is discussed in terms of ultrafast energy transfer between spirilloxanthin and bacteriochlorophyll-a. 相似文献

A core-shell composite consisting of a palladium (Pd) nanoparticle and a hollow carbon shell (Pd@hmC) was employed as a catalyst for aerobic oxidation of various alcohols. The core-shell structure was synthesized by consecutive coatings of Pd nanoparticles with siliceous and carbon layers followed by removal of the intermediate siliceous layer. Structural characterizations using TEM and N(2) adsorption-desorption measurements revealed that Pd@hmC thus-obtained was composed of a Pd nanoparticle core of 3-6 nm in diameter and a hollow carbon shell with well-developed mesopore (ca. 2.5 nm in diameter) and micropore (ca. 0.4-0.8 nm in diameter) systems. When compared to some Pd-supported carbons, Pd@hmC showed a high level of catalytic activity for oxidation of benzyl alcohol into benzaldehyde using atmospheric pressure of O(2) as an oxidant. The Pd@hmC composite also exhibited a high level of catalytic activity for aerobic oxidations of other primary benzylic and allylic alcohols into corresponding aldehydes. The presence of a well-developed pore system in the lateral carbon shell enabled efficient diffusion of both substrates and products to reach the central Pd nanoparticles, leading to such high catalytic activities. This core-shell structure also provided high thermal stability of Pd nanoparticles toward coalescence and/or aggregation due to the physical isolation of each Pd nanoparticle from neighboring particles by the carbon shell: this specific property of Pd@hmC resulted in possible regeneration of catalytic activity for these aerobic oxidations by a high-temperature heat treatment of the sample recovered after catalytic reactions. 相似文献

Porous anodic oxides generated on copper‐containing aluminium alloys are less regular than anodic oxides generated on pure aluminium. Specifically, a porous oxide morphology comprising layers of embryo pores, generated by a cyclic process of oxide film growth and oxygen evolution, is generally observed. In this work, the relation between the oxidation behaviour of copper during anodising and the specific porous oxide film morphology was investigated by electrochemical techniques, transmission electron microscopy and Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS). It was found that the anodising potential determines the oxidation behaviour of copper, and the latter determines the porous oxide morphology. At low voltage, relatively straight pores with continuous cell walls were obtained on Al? Cu alloys, but selective oxidation of aluminium atoms resulted in the occlusion of copper‐containing metallic nanoparticles in the anodic film. At higher potentials, copper oxidation promoted oxygen evolution within the barrier layer, and generation of a less regular film morphology. RBS, performed on Al? Cu alloy specimens, revealed a high volume fraction of copper atoms in the anodic films generated at low potentials and a reduced amount of copper atoms in the anodic oxide films generated at high potentials. The selectivity of substrate in substrate–enzyme complexation of heptaprenyl diphosphate synthase was directly investigated
using colloidal probe atomic force microscopy (AFM). This enzyme is composed of two dissociable subunits, which exhibits a
catalytic activity only when they are associated together in the presence of a cofactor, Mg2+, and a substrate, farnesyl diphosphate (FPP). We have recently succeeded to directly demonstrate a specific interaction involved
in this enzyme reaction and obtain new insights into the molecular mechanism of the reaction using the approach based on the
colloidal probe AFM. The AFM measurement showed the adhesive force between the subunits only in the presence of both Mg2+ and FPP. In this study, we studied the substrate selectivity in the complexation by monitoring the adhesive force. The substrates
studied are pyrophosphate (PPi), isopentenyl diphosphate (IPP), geranyl diphosphate (GPP), farnesyl monophosphate (FP), and
farnesyl geranyl diphosphate (FGPP). No adhesion was observed in the case of PPi, IPP, and GPP. On the other hand, the significant
adhesion was observed for phosphate derivatives, which bear prenyl units longer than three. This is in good agreement with
the selectivity of the substrates by this enzyme, which catalyzes the condensation reaction of four IPP molecules with FPP
to give heptaprenyl (C35) diphosphates. Our study showed a useful methodology for examining the elemental processes of biological reactions. 相似文献

ABSTRACTInteraction between a zinc porphyrin (ZnPor) as the end-group and poly(9,9-di-n-octylfluorene-2,7-vinylene) (PFV) as the main chain in a porphyrin end-modified fluorescent conjugated polymer, ZnPFV, was studied by time-resolved electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and fluorescence spectroscopy. While fluorescence from the PFV part of ZnPFV showed a spectral profile almost identical to that of a PFV oligomer without end-modification, the emission spectrum of the ZnPor part exhibited a much broader profile compared to that of the reference zinc porphyrin monomer. Based on the analysis of lifetimes and quantum yields, it was found that radiative rate constant of the ZnPor part was enhanced by nearly three times. The observed unusual enhancement in the radiative rate constant was rationalised in terms of a partial π-conjugation between the end group and the main chain, as a result of co-planarisation in fluid solution. On the other hand, the time-resolved EPR spectrum of ZnPFV at 100?K basically showed a similar spectral pattern to that of the reference zinc porphyrin, but with significant differences in zero-field spitting parameters and initial population ratios. The π-system of the excited triplet state is deduced to deviate from D4h symmetry in the end zinc porphyrin groups. The obtained results show that interaction of the porphyrin end group with the main chain of the polymer significantly influences the excited singlet state properties of the porphyrin, while its triplet state properties were affected to a lesser extent. 相似文献

Tube radical distribution chromatography (TRDC) uses an untreated open tubular capillary tube and a ternary mixture of solvents (water and hydrophilic/hydrophobic organic solvents) as a carrier solution. A model analyte mixture comprising 1-naphthol, 1-naphthoic acid, 1-naphthalenesulfonic acid, 2,6-naphthalenedisulfonic acid, and 1,3,6-naphthalenetrisulfonic acid was examined by the TRDC and capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) systems that comprised mainly a capillary tube and a detector. In the TRDC system the elution order of analytes could be changed by altering the component ratios of the solvents, whereas in the CZE system the elution order was changed by altering the electroosmotic flow direction. The experimental data obtained provide clues about the features and utility of TRDC as a new separation method. 相似文献

The diffusion coefficients of Li in the NaTl-type Li intermetallic compound of β-LiGa have been measured by using a short-lived radioactive diffusion tracer. As the tracer, the α-emitting radioisotope of 8Li delivered as the energetic and pulsed beam from Tokai Radioactive Ion Accelerator Complex (TRIAC) was implanted into the β-LiGa compounds with the composition in the range of about 43 to 54 at.% Li. By analyzing the time-dependent yields of the α-particles measured according to the repetition cycle of the beam, the tracer diffusion coefficients were extracted over the wide range of Li composition. Abnormal composition-dependence of Li diffusion coefficients in β-LiGa was observed; the stoichiometric β-LiGa showed the highest diffusivity of Li. By referring to the composition-dependent diffusivity of Li in the iso-structural β-LiAl and β-LiIn, we could identify the abnormal diffusion of Li in very Li-poor composition of β-LiGa. The anomaly has been discussed qualitatively in terms of the formation of defect complex and the interaction between the constitutional defects. 相似文献
