Dynamical Hopf bifurcation in piezoelectric semiconductor resonators

Time-dependent Hopf bifurcations in the current-voltage characteristics of piezoelectric semiconductor resonators were investigated experimentally. The switching transition between acoustic bistable states was observed under a quasi-static variation of applied voltage. The peculiar pulse responses of the resonant currents were observed when the rise-time of the pulses exceeded the eigen-period of the system. The existence of a metastable state in the dynamical Hopf bifurcation are discussed.     

Measurement of the tau lepton mass and an upper limit on the mass difference between tau+ and tau-

The mass of the tau lepton has been measured in the decay mode tau-->3pinutau using a pseudomass technique. The result obtained from 414 fb-1 of data collected with the Belle detector is Mtau=[1776.61+/-0.13(stat)+/-0.35(sys)] MeV/c2. The upper limit on the relative mass difference between positive and negative tau leptons is |Mtau+-Mtau-|/Mtau<2.8 x 10-4 at 90% confidence level.     

Mechanism for room-temperature single-atom lateral manipulations on semiconductors using dynamic force microscopy

Vacancy-mediated lateral manipulations of intrinsic adatoms of the Si(111)-(7x7) surface at room temperature are reported. The topographic signal during the manipulation combined with force spectroscopy measurements reveals that these manipulations can be ascribed to the so-called pulling mode, and that the Si adatoms were manipulated in the attractive tip-surface interaction regime at the relatively low short-range force value associated to the manipulation set point. First-principles calculations reveal that the presence of the tip induces structural relaxations that weaken the adatom surface bonds and manifests in a considerable local reduction of the natural diffusion barriers to adjacent adsorption positions. Close to the short-range forces measured in the experiments, these barriers are lowered near the limit that enables a thermally activated hopping at room temperature.     

Some families of Mordell curves associated to cubic fields

We introduce some Mordell curves of two different natures both of which are associated to cubic fields. One set of them consists of those elliptic curves whose rational points over the rational number field are described by or closely related to cubic fields. The other is a one-parameter family of Mordell curves which gives all (cyclic) cubic twists and all quadratic twists of the Fermat curve X³+Y³+Z³=0.     

Crystal structure and spin state of Fe0.5Co0.5(NCS)2(bpa)2

Fe(NCS)₂(bpa)₂, Co(NCS)₂(bpa)₂, and Fe_0.5Co_0.5(NCS)₂(bpa)₂ were synthesized. X-ray structural analysis revealed that the structure was the same among the three complexes. Although the metal-ligand distance in the mixed crystals was shorter than the distance in Fe(NCS)₂(bpa)₂ and was similar to that in Co(NCS)₂(bpa)₂, the spin state remained temperature-independent Fe^II high-spin state in ⁵⁷Fe M?ssbauer spectra.     

Measurement of the wrong-sign decays D0 --> K+ pi- pi0 and D0 --> K+ pi- pi+ pi-, and search for CP violation

Using 281 fb-1 of data from the Belle experiment recorded at or near the (4S) resonance, we have measured the rates of the "wrong-sign" decays D0 --> K+ pi- pi0 and D0 --> K+ pi- pi+ pi- relative to those of the Cabibbo-favored decays D0 --> K- pi+ pi0 and D0 --> K- pi+ pi+ pi-. These wrong-sign decays proceed via a doubly Cabibbo-suppressed amplitude or via D0-D0 mixing; the latter has not yet been observed. We obtain R(WS)(K pi pi0) = [0.229 +/- 0.015(stat)(+0.013)(-0.009)(syst)]% and R(WS)(K3pi) = [0.320 +/- 0.018(stat)(+0.018)(0.013)(syst)]%. The CP asymmetries are measured to be -0.006 +/- 0.053 and -0.018 +/- 0.044 for the K+ pi- pi0 and K+ pi- pi+ pi- final states, respectively.     

Analysis of voice source characteristics using a constrained polynomial representation of voice source signals

To analyze the characteristics of voice source signals from speech, a model is presented in the form of polynomial function by expanding the definition of the Rosenberg model. In combination with the all-pole assumption of the vocal-tract filter, methods are described for the pitch-synchronous speech analysis and temporal search of the glottal opening and closing instants. Because the source and filter models are both linear, the parameter estimation problem can be conveniently solved. In addition, the temporal search method can refine the locations of the glottal events and improve the accuracy of the parameter estimation. Analyses of non-nasalized voiced speech are conducted using an electroglottographic device from which the initial estimate of the temporal information is given.
