New fabrication method for anisotropic gratings formed in photocrosslinkable polymer liquid crystals

We present a new fabrication method, called two-step ultraviolet exposure, to prepare anisotropic gratings in photocrosslinkable polymer liquid crystal films. Using the controllability of the reorientation direction of mesogenic molecules, anisotropic phase gratings, in which the mesogenic molecules were periodically modulated in orthogonal directions, were prepared by the use of one grating photomask. The resultant gratings diffract the light and convert the polarization states at the same time, and have applications as diffraction optical devices. Data extrapolation method for boundary element method-based near-field acoustical holography

A new data extrapolation method for boundary element method (BEM)-based near-field acoustical holography (NAH) is proposed to reduce an error of the reconstructed result obtained from the pressure measured on an aperture small compared with the structure. The finiteness of the measurement aperture is a serious impediment to actual large-scale implementation of NAH, because NAH requires the measurement of the pressure field over a complete surface of structure. To eliminate the requirement, the wave number-space data extrapolation method for fast Fourier transform (FFT)-based NAH has been proposed. In this paper, the extension of this data extrapolation method to BEM-based NAH is presented. The effectiveness of this method is demonstrated by experiments. The experiment results confirm that the reconstruction error is sufficiently suppressed by the proposed method.     

Collective density-wave excitations in two-leg Sr14-xCaxCu24O41 ladders

Raman measurements in the 1.5-20 cm(-1) energy range were performed on single crystals of Sr14-xCaxCu24O41. A quasielastic scattering peak (QEP) which softens with cooling is observed only in the polarization parallel to the ladder direction for samples with x=0, 8, and 12. The QEP is a Raman fingerprint of pinned collective density wave excitations screened by uncondensed carriers in the ladder structures. Our results suggest that transport in metallic samples, which is similar to transport in underdoped high-T(c) cuprates, is driven by a collective electronic response.     

Excitation and decay of the isovector giant monopole resonances via the 208Pb(3He,t p) reaction at 410 MeV

The excitation and subsequent proton decay of the isovector spin-flip giant monopole resonance (IVSGMR) is studied via the 208Pb(3He,t) reaction at 410 MeV. In the inclusive spectrum (60+/-5)% of the non-energy-weighted sum-rule strength for this 2 variant Planck's over 2h omega resonance was found in the region 29相似文献   

Adsorbed water for the electro-oxidation of methanol at Pt-Ru alloy

Adsorbed water molecules which promote the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) at Pt-Ru alloy electrode are clearly detected by in-situ FTIR spectroscopy with the attenuated total reflection configuration, which directly supports the "bi-functional mechanism" for the MOR.     

Highly proton conductive polyimide electrolytes containing fluorenyl groups

Novel sulfonated polyimides containing fluorenyl groups show good thermal and oxidative stability as well as a high proton conductivity of 1.67 S cm(-1) at 120 degrees C and 100% RH.     

Doppler-shifted cyclotron absorption of electron Bernstein waves via N( parallel)-upshift in a Tokamak plasma

Extraordinary (X) waves are perpendicularly injected for electron Bernstein (B) wave heating into an Ohmically heated plasma from the inboard side in the WT-3 tokamak. Measurements show that absorption does not take place at the electron cyclotron resonance layer nor the upper hybrid resonance layer, but does happen midway between them. This is consistent with the ray tracing prediction, i.e., the poloidal field and poloidal inhomogeneity of toroidal field lead the B waves to have a large parallel refractive index N( parallel) (>1), and the B waves are damped away via the Doppler-shifted cyclotron resonance.     

The reaction of trialkylvinylborates with aldehydes as applied to syntheses of 1,3-alkanediols, 1-chloro-3-heptanol and a cyclopropane derivative

Treatment of R'CHO with Li[R₃BCHCH₂] gives an adduct which is believed to be R₂BCHR-CH₂-CH(OLi)R' (2) or its borate form (3). Oxidation of the adducts with alkaline hydrogen peroxide gives ca. 1:1 mixture of diastereomeric 1,3-alkanediols in good yields. On the other hand, the reaction of BrMg[R₃BCHCH₂] with R'CHO affords less satisfactory results. Successive treatment of 2 (R = n-Bu, R' = H) with PCl₅ and alkaline H₂O₂ gives HOCHBu-CH₂-CH₂Cl (6). Treatment of Et₂BCHEt-CH₂-CHCl-Ph with NaOH aq produces l-ethyl-2-phenylcyclopropane 7.     

Nonlinear conduction in two-dimensional CDW system: 1T-TaS2

Non-linear electrical conductivity is observed in 1T-TaS₂ in the lowest-temperature phase (the commensurate charge density wave state). The collective excitations are suggested to contribute to the electronic conduction as in the case of the linear chain metals TTF-TCNQ and NbSe₃.
