Is the madison convention really convenient at low energies?: The reaction 6Li(d)4He at 400 keV

It is shown that s-wave induced reactions with polarized particles can be described much more conveniently in new coordinates. Even with higher partial waves, cross sections can be fitted with less parameters than in conventional expansions.     

Planar nets of Ti atoms comprising squares and rhombs in the new binary antimonide Ti2Sb

The new binary antimonide Ti(2)Sb was found to crystallize in a distorted variant of the La(2)Sb type, which contains a square planar La net with short La-La bonds. In the Ti(2)Sb structure, the corresponding Ti net is deformed to squares and rhombs in order to enhance Ti-Ti bonding, as proven by single-crystal X-ray investigation in combination with the real-space pair distribution function technique utilizing both X-ray and neutron powder diffraction data. Electronic structure calculations revealed a lowering of the total energy caused by the disorder, the major driving force being strengthened Ti-Ti interactions along the diagonal of the Ti(4) rhombs.     

Sulfinato Complexes

Sulfinatometal complexes exhibit unusual features in their structure, preparation, and use, and have attracted rapidly growing interest. Their structures are determined by the ability of the RSO group both to act as a monodentate ligand (sulfinato-S or sulfinato-O) and to add to coordination centers as a bidentate ligand, either intramolecularly or intermolecularly, via the two oxygens atoms (sulfinato-O,O′) or via the sulfur atom and one of the oxygens (sulfinato-O,S).
