Large-time solutions of the two-phase Stefan problem with delay

The paper is devoted to questions of an analysis of the large-time solutions to a class of two-phase Stefan problems with delay in the source terms of the governing equations. The case of one space dimension is considered. Results on the asymptotic behaviour of the solutions at t → ∞ are established.     

Calculating the variance of errors in population forecasting

For judging the quality of population forecasting methods, the root mean square error (RMSE) has proven to be a useful tool. A suitable variance component model is proposed for calculating the variance of the RMSE. The method is demonstrated by an example.

Summary For a continuum containing point defects one can deduce an integro-differential equation describing the conduction of heat which implies the usual parabolic differential equation as a special case and which permits the expansion of a perturbation with a finite velocity. The structure of integro-differential equation and solutions is studied for simple examples.
