Etch pit densities on iron (110) surfaces in sulphuric acid grow linearly with the interfacial hydrogen activity in excess of a critical activity. The hydrogen activity is approximately proportional to the square root of the cathodic current density. At constant cathodic current density the etch pit density increases with temperature and decreases with external stress. Dislocations at which the excess etch pits form penetrate into the iron at a rate proportional to the hydrogen activity and the square root of time. Effects of prior hydrogen deposition on the shape of etch pits are seen at depths greater than the penetration depth of hydrogen generated dislocations. Changes of etch pit shape similar to those produced by hydrogen are also found when external stress is applied.The results are compared to Prussin's theory in which the assumption is made that stresses accompanying diffusion of an impurity are fully relieved by plastic deformation and formation of dislocations for stresses exceeding a critical stress. While some of the predictions of the theory are met by the experiments, the dislocations penetrate into the iron much slower than diffusion of hydrogen, since dislocations cannot move fast enough, i.e. stresses are not fully relieved.  相似文献

The rare-earth and actinide based compounds are endowed with several exotic physical and chemical properties due to the presence of f-electrons. These properties exhibit interesting changes under the action of various thermodynamic fields and hence continues to be a subject of extensive research. For instance, under pressure, the nature of f-electrons can be changed from localized to itinerant, leading to a variety of changes in their structural, physical and chemical properties. The present review on the high pressure phase transition behaviour of dialuminides of rare earths and actinides is an outcome of research in our laboratory during the last five years using a unique combination of a Guinier diffractometer and a diamond anvil cell built in-house. To bring out the correlations between the compressibility and structural behaviour with the electronic structure, we have also carried out electronic structure calculation. Further, the usefulness of Villars’ three parameter structure maps in predicting pressure induced structural transitions has been explored and this has been illustrated with the available phase transition data.  相似文献

A highly sensitive miniature photonic crystal fiber refractive index sensor based on field mode excitation is presented. The sensor is fabricated by melting one end of a photonic crystal fiber into a rounded tip and splicing and collapsing the other end with a single-mode fiber. The rounded tip is able to induce cladding mode excitation, which resulted in an additional phase delay. Linear response of 262.28 nm/refractive index unit in the refractive index range of 1.337 to 1.395 is obtained for the physical length of a 953 μm sensor. The sensor is also shown to be insensitive to environmental temperature.  相似文献

We propose the inclusion of a structured pattern of nanoscale metal wires in a silica fiber to form a symmetric plasmonic waveguide. The surface plasmon polariton modes within the waveguide are studied by varying the wire diameter and spacing. Simulation results show that hybridization of the single-wire mode and the gap plasmon mode can yield a hybrid mode with optimum propagation lengths comparable to those reported for other structures but with better light confinement. The fiber can be easily doped with a gain material to offset the loss so that the resultant waveguide will be useful for integration with electronic circuits at nanometer dimensions.  相似文献

It is well known that apparently similar discretization schemes of Maxwell's equations in Fourier series may provide very different convergence performances because of truncation. We argue that this work performed in grating theory can be applied to other electromagnetic theories relying on expansions over series different from Fourier series. This generalization is supported by an intuitive argument and by a simple numerical example with Hermite–Gauss functions.  相似文献

This work presents an investigation on the doubly excited 1S e autoionizing states of screened helium atom lying below the n = 4 threshold of the He+ ion. The potential generated in this system is represented by a Yukawa type potential. We have employed complex-coordinate rotation method, as it is a powerful scheme to study high lying resonances. Hylleraas type wave function is used to consider the correlation effect between all the charged particles. Our resonance parameters for the resonances lying below the He+ (n = 2) threshold agree well with those of the existing calculations by using the stabilization method. Resonances associated with higher thresholds are new calculations. All the present results are well converged with basis length N = 444.  相似文献

In this article, we review or report recent works on atomic wavelengths in screening environments. We mainly review recent works on the transition, tune-out and magic wavelengths with Coulomb and screened Coulomb potentials. We also present our investigation on tune-out and magic wavelengths for two-electron Yukawa atoms. A determination of sin2 θ w based on measurements of elastic scattering of muon-neutrinos and muon-anti-neutrinos on atomic electrons is described. These purely leptonic processes were studied using the CHARM calorimeter exposed to neutrino and antineutrino wide-band beams at the CERN super proton synchrotron. A total of 83±16 neutrino-electron and 112±21 antineutrino-electron events have been detected. From the measurement of the ratio of muon-neutrino and muon-antineutrino cross-sections a value of sin2 θ w =0.211±0.037 was obtained.  相似文献

We propose a least-mean-square adaptive filter with automatic step-size adjustment (ASSA). At each time instant when a new observation of the input signal arrives, a new step-size parameter is chosen such that the sum of the squares of the measured estimation errors up to that current time instant is minimized. This step size, after being normalized by the power of the current tapped filter input, is used to update the filter weights for the next time instant. The filter weights are thus updated automatically without the aid of any preset control parameters. When applied to channel estimation, simulation results show the performance advantage of the ASSA algorithm over the existing step-size adjustment algorithms under different wireless channel environments.  相似文献
