The validity of various effective medium approximations (EMAs) (Bruggeman, Maxwell-Garnett) was studied for nanostructured systems, where the scale of inhomogeneities is comparable to the wavelength. Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) layers of St?ber silica nanospheres of diameters between 40 and 129 nm are excellent model structures for the experimental verification of the validity of the EMA methods in spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) evaluation. Nanostructured mono- and multilayered silica films were investigated by SE and reflectance spectroscopy. The effective refractive index and film thickness were determined from the results of multiparameter fitting of SE spectra in the 300-759 nm wavelength region. The distribution of the effective refractive index in the particulate films was calculated assuming an ideal close-packed arrangement of particles. The average deviation from such a structure was deduced from the corrected model by introducing a "fill factor". In the EMA approximation, the spherical shape of the silica particle determines the optical behavior, rather than the "depth distribution" of silica or porosity. Therefore, the shape of particles has a dominant effect on the optical properties of nanoparticulate LB films.  相似文献

Nanocrystalline (anatase), mesoporous TiO2 thin films were functionalized with [Ru(bpy)2(deebq)](PF6)2, [Ru(bq)2(deeb)](PF6)2, [Ru(deebq)2(bpy)](PF6)2, [Ru(bpy)(deebq)(NCS)2], or [Os(bpy)2(deebq)](PF6)2, where bpy is 2,2'-bipyridine, bq is 2,2'-biquinoline, and deeb and deebq are 4,4'-diethylester derivatives. These compounds bind to the nanocrystalline TiO2 films in their carboxylate forms with limiting surface coverages of 8 (+/- 2) x 10(-8) mol/cm2. Electrochemical measurements show that the first reduction of these compounds (-0.70 V vs SCE) occurs prior to TiO2 reduction. Steady state illumination in the presence of the sacrificial electron donor triethylamine leads to the appearance of the reduced sensitizer. The thermally equilibrated metal-to-ligand charge-transfer excited state and the reduced form of these compounds do not inject electrons into TiO2. Nanosecond transient absorption measurements demonstrate the formation of an extremely long-lived charge separated state based on equal concentrations of the reduced and oxidized compounds. The results are consistent with a mechanism of ultrafast excited-state injection into TiO2 followed by interfacial electron transfer to a ground-state compound. The quantum yield for this process was found to increase with excitation energy, a behavior attributed to stronger overlap between the excited sensitizer and the semiconductor acceptor states. For example, the quantum yields for [Os(bpy)2(dcbq)]/TiO2 were phi(417 nm) = 0.18 +/- 0.02, phi(532.5 nm) = 0.08 +/- 0.02, and phi(683 nm) = 0.05 +/- 0.01. Electron transfer to yield ground-state products occurs by lateral intermolecular charge transfer. The driving force for charge recombination was in excess of that stored in the photoluminescent excited state. Chronoabsorption measurements indicate that ligand-based intermolecular electron transfer was an order of magnitude faster than metal-centered intermolecular hole transfer. Size-reduction systems have been extensively used in industry for many years. Nevertheless, reliable engineering tools to be used to predict the comminution of particles are scarce. Computational fluid dynamics(CFD)–discrete element model(DEM) numerical simulation may be used to predict such a complex phenomenon and therefore establish a proper design and optimization model for comminution systems.They may also be used to predict attrition in systems where particle attrition is significant. Therefore,empirical comminution functions(which are applicable for any attrition/comminution process), such as:strength distribution, selection, equivalence, breakage, and fatigue, have been integrated into the threedimensional CFD–DEM simulation tool. The main drawback of such a design tool is the long computational time required owing to the large number of particles and the minute time-step required to maintain a steady solution while simulating the flow of particulate materials with very fine particles.The present study developed several methods to accelerate CFD–DEM simulations: reducing the number of operations carried out at the single-particle level, constructing a DEM grid detached from the CFD grid enabling a no binary search, generating a sub-grid within the DEM grid to enable a no binary search for fine particles, and increasing the computational time-step and eliminating the finest particles in the simulation while still tracking their contribution to the process.The total speedup of the simulation process without the elimination of the finest particles was a factor of about 17. The elimination of the finest particles gave additional speedup of a factor of at least 18.Therefore, the simulation of a grinding process can run at least 300 times faster than the conventional method in which a standard no binary search is employed and the smallest particles are tracked.  相似文献

We analyze the collective excitations in two‐ and three‐dimensional binary Yukawa systems, consisting of two components with different masses. Theoretical analysis reveals a profound difference between the weakly and strongly correlated limits: at weak coupling the two components interact via the mean field only and the oscillation frequency is governed by the light component. In the strongly correlated limit the mode frequency is governed by the combined mass, where the heavy component dominates. A fundamental and systematic study on the fabrication of a supramolecularly assembled nanostructure of an organic ligand-capped CdS nanocrystal (NC) and multiple heptamine β-cyclodextrin ((NH(2))(7)βCD) molecules in aqueous solution has been here reported. The functionalization process of presynthesized hydrophobic CdS NCs by means of (NH(2))(7)βCD has been extensively investigated by using different spectroscopic and structural techniques, as a function of different experimental parameters, such as the composition and the concentration of CD, the concentration of CdS NCs, the nature of the NC surface capping ligand (oleic acid and octylamine), and the organic solvent. The formation of a complex based on the direct coordination of the (NH(2))(7)βCD amine groups at the NC surface has been demonstrated and found responsible for the CdS NC phase transfer process. The amine functional group in (NH(2))(7)βCD and the appropriate combination of pristine capping agent coordinating the NC surface and a suitable solvent have been found decisive for the success of the CdS NC phase transfer process. Furthermore, a layer-by-layer assembly experiment has indicated that the obtained (NH(2))(7)βCD functionalized CdS NCs are still able to perform the host-guest chemistry. Thus, they offer a model of a nanoparticle-based material with molecular receptors, useful for bio applications.  相似文献

The analysis of glycoprotein isoforms is of high interest in the biomedical field and clinical chemistry. Many studies have demonstrated that some glycoprotein isoforms could serve as biomarkers for several major diseases, such as cancers and vascular diseases, among others. Capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) is a well-established technique to separate glycoprotein isoforms, however, it suffers from limited sensitivity when UV-Vis detection is used. On the other hand, with laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) detection, derivatization reaction to render the proteins fluorescent can destroy the resolution of the isoforms. In this work, a derivatization procedure through the thiol groups of glycoproteins using either 5-(iodoacetamide) fluorescein (5-IAF) or BODIPY iodoacetamide is presented with the model protein of alpha-1-acid glycoprotein (AGP). The derivatization process presented enabled high-resolution analysis of AGP isoforms by CZE-LIF. The derivatization procedure was successfully applied to label AGP from samples of serum and secretome of artery tissue, enabling the separation of the AGP isoforms by CE-LIF in natural samples at different concentration levels.  相似文献

A wide range of medical conditions can be diagnosed through sequence‐specific analysis of nucleic acids. However, a major challenge remains in detecting a specific target in samples containing a high concentration of mismatching sequences. A single‐step kinetic homogenous (free solution) assay is presented in which free sequence‐specific probes are continuously separated from probe–target hybrids during electrophoretic sample focusing, allowing monitoring of dissociation kinetics. Under these conditions, the different kinetics of targets versus mismatches result in distinct patterns of the signal (for example, linear increase for target versus exponential decay for mismatch), allowing the detection of desired sequences even in the presence of high background nucleic acid content. Additionally, an analytical model provides insight into the underlying dynamics, and allows design of assays based on this mechanism.  相似文献

Various methods (e.g. spreading resistance and C-V measurements, neutron activation analysis, SIMS) have been used to determine concentration distributions of antimony dopant and charge carriers in single and double epitaxial silicon layers. Comparing the results obtained by the methods, an increased dopant diffusion process could be observed in the epitaxial layer during neutron irradiation of the sample, which arose as a systematic error in the NAA method.
